Bratton (NYPD commissioner) on the news claimed it was a ND FOUR FUCKING RULES and these assholes can't get them right. You mean the 4 rules that were never mentioned once when I went through the NYPD academy? I don't even mean that as a slight against the officer -- but fucking training has to be fixed. Might of been a year ago when an NYPD officer plugged a store owner fleeing his store -- "he bumped into me and the gun went off". I get it, you're running to an alarm and have your gun out, but keep it pointed at a safe place with the finger off the trigger. |

Love the excuses guys are already coming up with on the unofficial NYPD cop page. Do they sound like this? http://youtu.be/KC5tMLFqsuI Here's one. NY Post says "the victim" was collared 24 times and did a stretch in prison. It may have been a reflex by a startled PO when the door suddenly swung open but it could just as well been a violent struggle with an uncooperative perp.

There is NOTHING from the COPS story, facts, point of view and/or ANYTHING else! Just some SAVAGE's word that the COPS starting shooting for nothing, but the COP might wind up in jail???.....WTF???
What is with some people on this board? Make a statement like that BEFORE the facts are out??? Sure anything is possible....the perp's gun/weapon might have never hit the floor and/or a BAZILLION other scenarios. Also there is always that outside shot the COP screwed up, but to even make such statements before anything else is released is sickening!!! |

lol, so the NYPD shoots 20 something times at a guy and only hits bystanders and then this guy only shoots once and kills an innocent guy.
also I don't blame the officer too much, he was in a faux 3rd world shithole and it was pitch black. maybe the officers shouldn't carry guns. |

The Jose "Kiko" Garcia case taught me that all kind of things are possible with witnesses in staircases. Hadn't heard of that one. Just looked it up. http://www.nytimes.com/1992/07/12/nyregion/shared-streets-crossed-paths-and-a-death.html Mr. Garcia, an illegal alien who came to this country four years ago to be with family, apparently eked out a living peddling clothing on the street, returning at night to a cramped one-bedroom apartment he shared with his mother, two sisters, two brothers and a niece. Friends and relatives said he was a timid "big kid" who loved to eat, watch television and have a beer or two with friends who always seemed to be on the stoops that lined West 162d Street near St. Nicholas Avenue. He was once arrested there after police officers said they saw him sell a packet of cocaine. The NYT called him an illegal alien. Crazy. |

Another fine upstanding resident of the Pink Houses.
Rookie is still fucked though. http://nypost.com/2014/11/21/man-killed-by-rookie-cop-planned-to-surprise-mom-in-florida/?
Palmer brushed off any mention of Gurley’s extensive arrest record, which includes a felony drug conviction for dealing crack and multiple other arrests for lesser crimes. “Some people may look at his rap sheet and say he was a rotten egg. Akai wasn’t a rotten egg in this house. Akai was the peaceful, loving type.” said Palmer. View Quote |

It sounds like that's the truth. How is it "throwing him under the bus" stating the truth? If anything, brass instantly taking this tack makes me more likely to believe that it was a good shoot. That whole conference stinks of "avoid unrest" I can think of any number of instances where an officer might be inclined to light up a suspect in those conditions, and a number of reasons why no weapon was found. I'll reserve judgement until more info comes in (if it does) Couple of things I note with interest, though. Dimly lit. I have a two or three ounce flashlight that'll illuminate a 10X10 room pretty well. My slightly larger 6AAA Home Depot light ($20 for the 6 cell and a 3 cell) will throw a hellova bright beam 50+ yards. Don't NYPD cops carry flashlights? GF's statement smacks of "Mah baby di'n do nuffin'!" Maybe rookie had heard one too many "they stash the pieces on the GFs so they'll survive a frisk" stories, and when ol' cornrow grabbed for his girl, rookie assumed he was hauling strap. Hell, maybe it WAS an ND. I just find it beyond odd that they went there so quick. Not like brass to instantly go there without ducking and dodging for a couple of days first. |

It sounds like we need more training in statistics and not so much of the "get home safe" crap. It's NOT Mogadishu or Kabul out there. There are a million officers in the United States, and fewer then 70 or 80 will be killed as a victim of a violent act each year. Those are pretty damn good odds of "getting home safe". Criminal victimization is down over 70% over the last 40 years, but some LEO's seem to think their in a war. There isn't any war, and LEO's aren't soldiers. We need to tone it down. So the NYPD in it's infinite wisdom puts the cops with the least experience in the worst possible situation as a matter of routine? What the fuck are they thinking? The captions said that it's supposed to be a 6 month tour but many of them had already been there for 2 years. I can't believe the stupidity at work here. Why in the world would you want to put fresh academy graduates in a situation like the one that exists in these shithole projects? They should at least partner these kids with somebody that's been around for a while, although I'm sure union seniority precludes that possibility. |
