Great troll thread...
On to the question When/if PU trucks become unacceptable and their drivers are publicly shamed, those very drivers will then be the forbidden of the vehicle world. Women will look at them just as they look at outlaw bikers today. It's win/win for the PU truck drivers. The Prius drivers on the other hand, will have to settle for their other hand. |

You did it redneck style, too. If you have liberal neighbors, you may have induced some cardiac arrhythmia. The typical south Florida pickup will never be used for that purpose, nor will it ever go off-road, unless the owner has a loss of control accident. The typical south Florida pickup is more of a brotruck owned by a flaming asshole from the northeast. It will be parked across three spaces because otherwise it might get a scratch, and besides, this way everyone can see it better. When asked what sort of "work" is done by the brotruck, the brotruck owner will show a puzzled expression, as if he was trying to translate the word "work' from Aramaic. |

We're sitting at 24-25 mpg fleet average. That's the tiny cars pulling up and the big V-8 3/4 ton trucks pulling down. Obama has mandated 35.5. So it's taken the auto industry driven by science and the market place over 100 years to get 24 mpg average and the liberal driven by feelings demand that improves by another 50% in 12 years. I see the eventual change of the passenger car/light truck/large truck categories driving more and more people out of full-sized trucks.
To be honest about 19 out of 20 folks who drive a full-size truck put that power to work once or twice a year ... but it is a free country (barely). |

Why idiots in other states want clean air too is fucking beyond me. The population here since the 1970's has tripled - three times the number of trucks (not the little ones we're talking about - 18-wheelers), three times the number of SUVs, factories (CA is still the manufacturing capital of the US), and three times the number of ships sailing out of the ports ... yet the air is cleaner by a factor. I'm from Minnesota but people who lived here in the 1970's tell stories about how for weeks on end it was unhealthy to go outside in the summer, about how they couldn't see the mountains except for 5-10 days a year due to the smog, about how it was killing kids with breathing diseases. We're now mandated to drive electric cars or 4 cylinder trucks that have to get +30 mpg. We pay $3 a gallon in CA taxes. Vehicles are inspected annually and the inspection costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Starting January there's a new tax on miles driven with the requirement to enter the number of miles driven at the pump while filling up. |
