Tonight's featured avatar belongs to the member, wwace - a member of the site since 2010.
The girl in the avatar is Kyra Schon, an actress playing the part of Karen Cooper in the 1968 Romero film classic Night of the Living Dead. Karen is one of seven people who have sought refuge in the farmhouse from the zombies. She had been bitten and was the first to turn into a zombie. In the below scene, Karen has already turned and is feasting on the arm of her father. She then turns on her mother and kills her with a trowel. (Zombie fans will notice that Karen is violating one of the traditional and rarely broken zombie rules by using a weapon to kill.) Here is a more recent photo of the zombie girl: The entire movie can be seen here: ....and now you know. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Previously featured avatars: Maccrage Substandard 4v50 Vengarr |

Is this going to be a new running feature, sort of like the Sunday metal threads and the top post count thread?

A very interesting thread, OP. Seriously; it really IS very interesting.

Actually a most interesting thread idea and welcome distraction from the normal nonsense that is GD

At least this avatar of the night post doesn't have gratuitous illustrated nudity.

Very cool idea for posting material.
Did you already "inherently" know the avatar in question before you make a post, or do you have to go research it a bit? (...not necessarily meaning you IM the user or anything... ) ETA: Dangit, question already answered. |

Good night. I don't know, mine is a personal photo and has an interesting back story. |

Just FYI I selected her as my Avatar because her look most describes my feelings at the time, my utter disgust with the administration and that hint of danger her eyes focus foretells.
I first watched that movie when I was around 13 in 1973 and it was a favorite of my gang of friends. We would scream what they should be doing at the TV and planning our rounds at the mall to get adequate supplies to defeat the Zombie Horde.

View Quote Some other notable trivia: - The film was the ultimate in low budget films. It was made for just a tad over 100K. - The man who played Karen's father in the film....was her actual father. - NOTLD shook up film audiences in a couple of ways...the first was that a black man was featured as the hero and main character surrounded by white characters. It also mixed things up by the hero getting killed in the film - something that rarely happened. - There was no rating system in play at the time, so children were watching this movie at Saturday afternoon matinees. Quite a big change from when Romero came out with Dawn of the Dead which was banned in many areas. |
