They are awesome dogs.  I never thought I would want any small yappy dog.  I grew up with large, hunting and herding dogs.  Dachshunds are like a good hound dog in a nice portable size.

Emily and Otto (VVeiner).
Otto couldn't figure out why Baby Emily wouldn't stop crying. So he laid on her head.

Every person that I've known with a dachshund, has had a very sweet dog.  Not to other people, so much as to it's family.  They are the kind of dog that wants nothing more than to play with you and to cuddle up, just like with the baby above.

I had to hold my little buddy last night. He was as scared of fireworks as he is of thunder. His brother doesn't mind either. He will nap or chew his bones through any kind of noise.

We had ours with us at the ranch, he just goes into his kennel and hangs out in there during the fireworks. he doesn't like them, but he isn't deathly afraid of them.

Oscar actually handled it okay. I bought him some special treats in preparation for the evening.

We snuggled on the couch and he munched away happily on his new yummies, completely oblivious to the fireworks.

A few years ago, my doxie had an x-ray done because he was having trouble with his hip.  When the doc put the full-body x-ray up, it didn't look like an x-ray of my dog, it looked just like a rat (short legs and long tail)! Lol.

My Dachshund has a new trick.  He eats the small amount of food I give him as quickly as possible, then goes one bowl over to the lab/shepherd's bowl, and pushes him aside and eats his food.  I can tell when the big dog comes into the room with me and lays down, just seconds after I give him a bowl full of food.  He looks all dejected and emasculated.

When the big dog eats, it looks like a gravel earth mover in a quarry, with most of the rocks falling out during the process.  He has food falling out of the sides of his mouth as he stands up straight after every mouthful of food, to eat it upright.  He is too lazy to eat crumbs, so if not for the little dog, he owuld likely leave them on the floor.  The dachshund then comes over and eats all the pieces that fell on the floor.  I guess that wasn't enough and now he feels the need to go straight to the bowl for more.

I'm sure you've seen these things, swinging to unload into a dump truck, and spilling about a third of their load along the way.

We were just given by our vet what we think is a rough coated dachshund.  (think dachshund with a longish terrier coat).  She is young and already one of the most fun dogs I've ever been blessed to care for.  Tons of energy, alert, and a big personality. The rabbits in our A/O are on high alert when we walk and she is a hoot when she goes into "stalk" mode.

She's a puppy though and can find more things to get into than I thought possible.  She has ruined an I phone and an iron.....among a whole list of lesser items.

When she got a hold of my wife's day planner she earned her crate.
