We were just given by our vet what we think is a rough coated dachshund. (think dachshund with a longish terrier coat). She is young and already one of the most fun dogs I've ever been blessed to care for. Tons of energy, alert, and a big personality. The rabbits in our A/O are on high alert when we walk and she is a hoot when she goes into "stalk" mode. She's a puppy though and can find more things to get into than I thought possible. She has ruined an I phone and an iron.....among a whole list of lesser items. When she got a hold of my wife's day planner she earned her crate. View Quote You mean like a Wire Haired? |

Had to take my little guy to the vet for the last time today. He was 16 and suffering from back issues to the point where his life was a struggle.
Mr Jinx. He was there for my daughter her whole life, and was as gentle as could be all through her baby and toddler years. I really loved him for that... he was the sweetest dog you could hope for. Before we had our daughter, he used to sleep in bed with me every night. He would crawl under the covers, and come up next to me, with his head on my arm. Probably 8 years ago almost 10years ago |

I'm very sorry for your loss, I know how hard it must be to have lost such a wonderful companion and member of the family...

I'm getting a cat after my other dog is gone in the next couple years. I travel a few times a year for work and vacations, and boarding the dogs, or relying on someone else is a lot of hassle. That said, I love having dogs. They have so much more of a bond with people than do cats. I think my other dog was trying to let me know last night, that the little dog is missing. He woke me up to go outside twice last night. He never does that. He seems restless. I'm never sure if I am projecting human traits onto him, or if he really is intelligent. The Dachshund was unbelievably sweet, but not notably intelligent.

Madison had her yearly checkup and shots an hour ago then promptly came home and puked in my floor.
Let's hope that's all there is to it. Benadryl is on hand just in case. |

Take the prey drive of either breed and ramp it to 11 There is nothing in South Mississippi that those dogs don't think they can take it's pretty much a case of nobody ever told them they are small dogs so they don't know that they are small dogs |

I actually have to stop by the vet and get two Valium to give one of mine before taking her to the vet. Otherwise, she gets so nervous at the vet she'll have a seizure. That's the only place I take her that she does that. She hates that place! |

who doesn't love dogs laying on their backs, with ears sticking up? some of the cutest pics. My lab/shepherd does it all the time, and looks funny as hell, since he is so big. The dachshund rarely did.

Goddamn it. I want to hoard weenie dogs so bad. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes We definitely love this little girl. I would like to get a couple more, but with four other dogs, it's not going to happen very soon. My wife has a rat-terrier blue heeler mix that is 17 years old and runs around and still has the energy of a little puppy. She got Oreo in 1998 or so and she is our Alpha pack leader. Little Boo is thinking she is the Alpha and it's hilarious to watch the power struggle. So far they have only nipped at each other but I am always ready to pull them apart quickly if the need arises. Boo's main area of concern is our son when he is home, but when he goes to school she mopes around for an hour or so then goes and messes with the other dogs. Quoted:
