this is why i dont want to buy a membership, im afraid id say something stupid and someone will take it the wrong way and down comes the ban hammer. (yeah i know, free to leave right? just not the kind of freedom of speech i would expect) i understand the mod and staff reasoning, but many "rights" can be reasoned away from speech to gun ownership and now the need of govt health care is reasoned... though logic begs to differ.

not trying to start anything, just my two cents (i actually feel like i need this disclaimer so i dont get banned or temp locked or something)

Can you tell me who was banned?

There is plenty of stupid said here everyday. We give members plenty of lead to have them rectify their behavior before they are banned. If you do not want to support the site financially, don't, but don't come up with bullshit to support your reasons for not doing it.

there is plenty of stupid stuff said here, but stupid ideas are batted down and trolls and bigots exposed. ive said stupid stuff as well when i really bit into a guy when i misread a post (i apologized through an IM and on the thread and learned my lesson about drunk posting after i reread the conversation) but you know as well as i that there are a bunch of bullshit rules designed to make it easier on the mods rather than allow the full expression of speech.

i really was going to buy a membership to support the site but decided against it. raise the BS flag if you want but what matters is i know the truth. now there are more rules because an outsider may read something and not understand it? God forbid someone might be offended or take something the wrong way. and im sure you guys do give more leeway to members, but the limited speech thing is not something i wish to buy into

anyone here recognizes you dont make guns illegal because a few people use them to hurt other people. for the same reason i personally dont agree with these limits on speech and expression. if someone uses the edit to say "your a cocksucker ~ CTD" they should be reprimanded for a personal attack, not for writing "CTD" when anyone can see they edited their own post by looking up above the text. or reprimand people who posted porn rather than a girl in a bikini, something you can see in a Disney movie.

i recognized that it was to make things easier already, but an unarmed society is also easier to control yet we know that is not right.

though some will say they dont want it to become 4chan, and from what ive heard, neither do I, but also from what i hear, there are some pretty fucke up people there who post things which are in the gray areas of REAL law, while here if it appears to be against the law it is dealt with, and rightly so.

so i say to you, "dont come up with bullshit reasons to support your reasons for" doing it.

Kudos to CELTICWARRIOR67 for stepping right around the "Can you tell me who was banned?" shoebomb purposely left in his path. The man is prescient.
I agree on the membership opinion also. If there was a fair and reasonably neutral arbitration for a CoC accusation, then it would be a membership, as it currently is, the money you commit is a donation only.

If those who posted the pseudo-edits -whom I assume you refer to as the slow students- were "punished", I calculate that over a hundred accounts would have to be locked. Is that more desirable than correcting something (false editing) that is wrong on its own merits?

Quite the opposite actually. I'm saying the one(s) who didn't realize that is was satire would be the slow students. Maybe quick witted would be a misnomer. Those who would think it was funny, while pulling the wool over ones eyes would be "quick witted" (ok, somewhat).

Ed, we've exchanged enough IM's for you to hopefully realize I back this site, I respect it and most of it's Mods. It IS your site and you will do what you feel you have to do to benefit the site.

Did the CTD crap run its course? Yes, long ago. But then again so has "is it fo time??!!" People that foment civil war on here do WAY more damage than the CTD crap.

You've picked your battle, and will stick with it. As a parent, I get that. The CTD has run its course, as has this thread. Unless you enjoy having to back up what you say to everyone on here who posts in opposition, I'd lock it and be done.

Maybe most people know -or should know- that the edits were made by the member posting, in which case the poster himself should be banned for personal insults when saying : "you are a cockfag.edited by CTD",etc

The edits by members and attributed to CTD stopped being funny the day after it started, and if you haven't gotten over their prices a year later, you are hypocritical when you say "the US is a capitalist system and it's a free market". If you don't like their prices, don't buy from them. PERIOD!

This should have perhaps been stopped when it started, but that is what happens when something here is allowed to "die on it's own" but people continue to push and push and push, until something gives.

Isn't it a function of the free market to openly criticize prices the market doesn't like? Now if we were advocating the government change CTD's prices, that wouldn't be capitalism.

You can contest,criticize, etc their prices.What you cannot do is say something in your post and make it look to an unsuspecting reader (newbies, people who read,etc) like someone else has edited your comment.

Well, if they could read then they would know who edited the post.

The name on the right top corner is that of the poster making the LAST edit on record, so it is conceivable to think that the post was edited by the person or company in red and then the poster went back to his/her post and edited something else

Doubtful considering that anyone who had their post edited by a Industry Partner would be so butthurt that they would edit out the "<edited by *industry_partner*>" after the fact.
