My Anderson model BFW (BigF*ckingWindow) should be in this week. It is going to be 9.5'x5.5'.

I have a hip framed roof so I have questions about do I need to beef up the header. From the ceiling plate to where the window is going to be is about a foot. No idea what kind of framing is above it. I assume is on 16" centers, no 2x10s or 2x12s like would normally be done now. Something this big I would put in a LVL. I ordered an Anderson 200 window. A picture window in the center with a double hung on each side.

Will the window be enough when properly shimmed to hold up the roof?

Haven't measured it but it looks like my roof is a 4. The current window opening is about 10x5.5. I ordered one a little smaller so I can frame the opening to have a good mounting area for it.

The original framing holds the roof up.  There wont be any structural support provided from a window. Just add whatever additional wood inside the original opening for the new window.

There has to be a header either now or when you are done.

Got the window in last week. . The header had sagged a little, about 3/4 of an inch over the 10ft span in the center.
