Bert Munro built his own motorcycle and in the mid-1960's took it to the Bonneville Salt Flats.  There, he set records that still stand today.  This is the main plot of the movie but there is so much more to it that I don't mind giving up this part of the plot.  What a cool movie.

I'm pretty sure it's not really about motorcycles.  It's about Bert Munro.  It's about people and Bert's relationship with an to them.  Oh, by the way, he also raced at Bonneville (probably over-states the point, but you get the idea).
