Money Monster

George Clooney is the host of a Jim Cramer "Mad Money" style tv show.  He's taken hostage on live tv by one of his viewers who bet the farm on one of his stock picks, which subsequently crashed.  George Clooney's production team tries to find out what really happened to the stock price when the gunman demands answers.

Better than I thought it would be.  Expected a class warfare diatribe and there was some of that, but it's not the whole movie. It's more like a traditional thriller/mystery movie.
Very average movie.

I liked it.  McConaughey was good, as was the supporting cast.  Story was good.  Not blockbuster material, but certainly worth the watch for me.

The Devil's Brigade

Their mission is to take an Italian mountain top held by the Germans.

Cell

an end of the world movie based on a Steven King book.
a mysterious signal is sent through cell phones causing people to lose their minds and start attacking survivors.
Steven King puts his usual twists on the story, the ending was confusing.
stars Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack

I thought it was decent up until the ending.

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken

a comedy from the 60s starring Don Knotts, investigating a haunted house for the local newspaper.
I used to see this type of movie at the Saturday matinee in the early 70s. (no tv where we were living)

Blood Father

Mel Gibson plays a ex-con trying to live a straight, sober life, when his wild child daughter calls asking for help.
The daughter is in serious trouble running from her boyfriend's cartel gang.

the story is OK, the action is good.  I thought the ending was a little weak.
Gibson was really good playing the sarcastic, wise cracking tough guy.

Lights Out

I had high hopes for this one.  I'm not a huge scary movie kinda guy, because I find most of them are really cheesy.  But this one looked good.  It's one of those movies that most of the good parts are in trailer.  And the ending was bad.

Love and Friendship

From Arfkom's favorite director, Whit Stillman, comes an adaptation of Jane Austen's unpublished novella about an aristocratic but broke single mother who is trying to pimp her teenage daughter into a marriage with a dullwitted but rich middle aged aristocrat the daughter doesn't fancy.  About as interesting as it sounds, but the single mother MILF is played by Kate Beckinsdale who looks great as ever.

Watching all 3 original Star Wars movies today.

It's really glaring whenever shitty CGI enhancements are present.  I wish they'd finally release theatrical versions.

Free State of Jones

a civil war drama, based on true events.
Newton Knight leaves the battlefront and at home finds the locals are being mistreated by the Confederate soldiers.
He goes into hiding with escaped slaves and then organizes a rebellion against the Confederacy in Jones County, Mississippi.
It was a good movie, starring Matthew McConaughey

The fact that The Grey Fox has not been restored and released on Blu_Ray is a travesty.
This a five star movie.  The Grey Fox is arguably Richard Farnsworth's best role.
It slid under the radar in 1982.  A seriously underrated film that deserves more attention.
