I had a 1984 CJ7 I bought new right out of high school when I got my 1st job. Sold it to start a family 8yrs and 330,000 miles later. Got to wanting/looking for another CJ,YJ,or TJ  back last yr, so I was surprised when my wife gave this TJ to me on my birthday.

Snowpocolypse 2016!!!!!! Everyone panic!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!

Took the jeep out for alittle fun today. Sadly i only have pics from the driveway

Liberty is my wifes, shes wanting to get rid of it and get an XJ. Which im thrilled about.

The new KM2's do pretty good in the snow. My KO's did better on the hard packed stuff but not as good getting up the mountain, in the deep snow, to my house. But thats to be expected. Im starting to consider gearing now that i moved up to 33's. Its not that bad with the 6speed and 3.73's but it could be better.

Nice.... My wife sold her CR-V and got an 01 XJ and we built it up for her... (well continued the build from the PO) She's looking at bumpers now...

4.10's for your 33's 4.56 if you are considering 35's ever. I just went from 4.10 to 4.88 and I could not be happier....

Yeah, I was pretty impressed with my KM2's when I took them up north last weekend. Especially in the soft stuff.

No pics, I kinda got distracted when it decided it wouldn't start.

I'd figured the starter had gone kaput (we push started it), but it fires up fine now when back in Phoenix. I'm gonna rebuild it anyway, but it's an odd one.

3.73 to 4.10 isn't worth the money or effort.

I went straight to 4.88 and love it.

I think the 4.88's might be to much with the 6 speed

4.88s will put you at almost 3000rpm at 70mph.  You can't get a more perfect rpm for power and efficiency.

I'd have gone 5.13s if Revolution had been around then.

Sounds like a nice hobby for a bit. I'll get one after I move, so I'll actually have a place to store/ work on it.

I went with Metalcloak. I also did their front lower control arms and tie rod which also managed to fit behind my 15 inch wheels. Very happy!

New frameless top and got rid of 50 inch light bar(after it broke) and replaced with 20 inch on hood.

Also moved plate to tire carrier and trying out brake lights.

Out checking out some of families property before deer season.

Thanks - but it's a Sport with Rubi wheels and cut down Unlimited sliders.

I'm on the fence about buying a Rubicon this year.

That may have to wait as I plan on getting a Power Wagon so I can haul my rock rig to trail heads.

And the new(er):

Link Posted: 2/24/2016 7:49:39 PM EDT
[#33]

Well my buddy called this morning with a GREAT idea.  He wanted to go and set out some crawfish traps on some of my families property.  I thought why not, it will give me something to do.  So he came over and brought the stuff.  We loaded it in my Jeep and heading over.(It's all of 1/2 mile away)  We drove through the front sugarcane field area and got to about where we wanted.  He told me we should stop here, but I thought nah, I don't feel like walking that far, so I kept going.  Well it didn't go quite as planned and we were stuck about 5 minutes later. lol

So we decided to just go and set the traps out then come back and figure out how to get out.  We were almost finished with the traps so I headed back to my Jeep.  Got in, and started to see if she would come loose.  Well I started going backwards but couldn't see how far I was going and went a bit too far and stuck it even worse.

So I decided to start pulling cable and find a tree(no big ones around here).  I found one, but it would pull me sideways a bit.  I hooked up to it and started winching.  This did't work and just made is worse, by pulling me into a big mound of mud.

We ended up having to find another tree a bit further away and pull me out forward, then hook to one and pull me back to side, getting me back to my original ruts.  Then we found another and pulled me a bit further, until I started to get traction.  So we unhooked everything and just threw it onto the hood and I drove out and up the hill.

Loaded everything back up and headed back home.  Then I had the fun of cleaning off all the mud.  Sure am glad I bought a pressure washer last year.

Jeep is about 85% clean now but good enough.  She will be spending the night in the yard though.  The ground around it is really wet and I don't feel like walking through muddy ground before getting into my halfway clean Jeep.  So I'll move her back to the carport tomorrow.

I have decided though, that once this tires wear out, mu next set will have a more aggressive tread.  TerraGrapplers are nice and ride great, but they don't clean themselves very well in gooey mud.

Been working on the ZJ, built the rear bumper and tow mounts a couple of weekends ago. Put in the dropped steering arm after that and this weekend I mounted the winch mount and winch.  Also did a bunch of trimming on the front end and did away with the plastic front bumper.  The approach and departure angles are much better, wish I had measured them before.

Next weekend if it's too wet to work at the farm, I'll start on the front and rear lockers.  I also want to fabricate a couple of skid plates.

Thanks, a buddy and I wheel ZJ's together. Here's his and mine from last fall getting ready to leave for a trail ride.

We have another with 4" of lift and 33" Gumbo Mudders that we own together for mud runs.  We also have another 5 or 6 for parts.  They're about the cheapest, buildable off road vehicles around IMHO.  Most of them we have have been bought off Craiglsist for less than $1000 and driven home.  We run '96-'98 models as everything interchanges.  I know everyone likes the 4.0's but we run 318's because we like the power.  Most of the 318's have Quadratrac, so we swap in Selectrac part time transfer cases out of 4.0 models.

Curious why you installed a drop pitman arm.  Did you lower your trackbar as well?

Doing one without the other introduces bumpsteer.  You always want to keep your drag link and track bar parallel.

Next weekend if it's too wet to work at the farm, I'll start on the front and rear lockers.  I also want to fabricate a couple of skid plates.

Curious why you installed a drop pitman arm.  Did you lower your trackbar as well?

Doing one without the other introduces bumpsteer.  You always want to keep your drag link and track bar parallel.

The Rough Country long arm lift drops the track bar but doesn't come with a drop pitman arm.  My buddy's has a Rusty's long arm lift and it came with both.  I liked the way his drove better than mine, so I added the Rusty's pitman arm to mine. I'm hoping mine does well after alignment.  It seems better just in what little bit I've drove it while working on it.  35" tires are really pushing the limits on these ZJ's.

Painted the Poison Spyder front and rear diff covers this evening.  Still need to clean up a little of red overspray, I'm a masking tape retard.

Installed the Aussie lockers this weekend, did the rear Saturday afternoon and the front today. First ones I've installed and it went very well.  I took my time and checked everything several times. The majority of the work is in the tear down and reassembly.  The actual locker install just takes a few minutes.  I've been watching YouTube videos for the last few days and they really helped.

I also built a possum catcher for the area of the lower radiator and tranny cooler that shows under the winch mount.  I made it out of heavy expanded metal. It won't stop a boulder but it should keep out branches and small farm animals and stil let air in.

I also ran a vent tube for the front diff up into the engine compartment.  Started laying out a skid plate for the transfer case but I need a piece of steel plate for it.

I like that.

My Grill has a ding in it, I wonder how that would look, Blue on Black.

Had you previously done the fenders?

First time Jeep owner.  I've been a truck owner (daily driver) all my life, but decided to trade in my ram for this Jeep.  I bought it Monday and I can't stop smiling.
