Starts tomorrow 9 am Eastern. Who is doing it this year? |
Oh dang...I REALLY do not have daylight for this this year. But I will still try to fo. Maybe the amp will make this easier. |
It has been my experience in the past that I can work all 14 stations within a couple hours.
Not always, but usually. A few times I worked all but one or two and came back later and got them. |

View Quote You sir, must have a nice antenna with gain. I can usually get ten or so, then it's just plain impossible. |

Two years ago we just got moved in and I was able to get about 5 in the day I had my station on the air. Last year I got all 13 in a couple days on digital then moved to voice and got about half.
This is my favorite event by far. It is fun now, but I am waiting to see how much I like it when I move back to OK |
Already? Seems like I chasing them just yesterday.
Anyway, I'll try but I find working all of them to be quite a challenge. I got them all last year, but two years ago, I came up one short. In both cases, I spent hours and hours trying. Seems like some states are on 24/7 but others are only on about 30 minutes/day. We'll see.... |
Maybe I'll give'r a go a bit, kinda burned out from all the radio last weekend, though... Well, and the cold, and rain, and wind, and wind, and rain, and wind and wind.

How do we find them? View Quote They usually show up on any of the dx spotting sites. Or spin the dial and look for pileups. Actually I had pretty good luck spinning the dial last year, try to do so right after mealtimes, the stations sometimes swap operators then and they will move bands and there won't be pileups. Switching from 10/20 daytime to 40/80 evening night is also a good time to find them at a new frequency. |

View Quote Made the link hot for you One of my favorite events. I've had clean sweeps for the past 4 years. It's killing me that I can't start on it until Thursday due to business travel. This will be the first year doing it with an amp and my fancy audio processing. Both got great reviews during Field Day |

Think of it like a scavenger hunt. And inevitably there will be 1 or 2 stations that nobody can find or get until the last day. |
I worked them all in 2 days last year + the bonus stations. You get a very nice certificate & the QSL cards are cool. The bands were in fairly good shape last year during the event. Doubt I have time this year, but may try if friggin' thunderstorms ever let up here. If you want to cheat, the special event stations are normally spotted well here: SK6AW spot page
Good Luck! |

I worked them all last year and never sent in for the award.
I suppose I will do it again this year. |

if i can get my antenna built this evening i am going to try since i am stuck at home with 3 kids. LOL
So far, I can't hear any of them. I see a few of them spotted. but that's it.
Saw K2J NC on PSK31 around 14.072 but couldn't get him. Saw him work a few people and now he is gone =(
I know where they are, but I can't hear shit. The bands are just dead.
I got K2L and K2K on my first try. Then dropped down to the RTTY section and remembered an issue I'm having with T/R switching, so I got lost on that tangent
I'm going to try for the rest tomorrow. |
Now we're cooking! There are a bunch on 20m SSB right now
I managed to get one so at least I won't get skunked. EDIT: Just bagged PA on CW. |
Seven plus William Penn on 40m & 20m phone so far before getting side tracked on radio/pc usb issues.

Worked it for about 3 hours tonight, operating remotely since I'm on business travel. 40M and 20M were in fine shape.
I got A, B, C, D, F, H, L and PEN in short order. I was feeling pretty good about myself and then... ...absolutely could not break the K2K pileup on 40 and then he went QRT. Heard the GB13COL station on 20 for about 3 minutes and then he faded Spent the last hour trying to break the K2M pileup on 40. He was +40 and I had to be +40 at his QTH and still couldn't break it. Gave up in disgust. 8 for 15 all SSB phone. No spotting. Can't operate tomorrow as I'll be on the road. Will be back at it on Thursday. |
Anyone getting any digital contacts with them? Gonna try that tonight.

K2B and K2M are on psk31 around 14.072 right now. Finally got K2B.

Woohoo. Im a noob on hf and picked up 5 on 20m and 40m ssb. Fun and clear from dallas. 18" vertical ic-746 running 100w. Pileup is thick on some others are easy with no traffic. Worked slovenia, spain, and a contester from croatia 9a9a. two nights ago with 100w 5500 miles. Way cool, wife thinks im a dork.

Chasing this is going to have to wait until I am home this weekend.
so when you work a specific station, do you log just the station or both the station and whoever is currently running it?
I'm up to 3 big contacts.
Today is similar to yesterday, in that, I'm just not hearing them at all. Hopefully it will pick up some later. Edit: Picked up 3 more. But my tolerance for SSB pileups has just about run out. I sure hope more stations get on CW. |
Need K2M (PA) for the clean sweep + wm penn
Made the last 4 on the old Yaesu FT-707 since the 590 is in a big brown truck on its way to Va. Beach Nick |

UK? have A-> L plus wm3pen on 20m/40m ssb so far.
ETA ok gb13col - I will have to listen for that. thanks for the heads up! Nick |
Just need AEFG now. Sitting in K2A's pileup right now, he's running it very well.
Need K2I, WM3PEN and the England station. But still have until Sunday

Picked up two more on CW, just now. K2F with 12 watts on the K2, and K2G/QRP with 5 watts on the K3.
That's 10 total. 5 on SSB, and 5 on CW. |

Now I just need A and F. |

Got GB13COL and a bunch more tonight after returning from travel. Having the amp this year is definitely making it easier.
All contacts on 40 except for my home state on 80M and GB13COL on 20M. All contacts by phone. Trolled 20 and 40M digi spots but saw nothing. Got WM3PEN last night. Just need DE and GA now. Two more to go! |

However all of my neighbors are well within rock-throwing distance and I know I can make it into my own home theater system on 20 with 50 watts |

GB13COL is probably going to be tough for me, unless he gets on CW. I usually only get Europe on SSB during contests, when the big guns are out. It's not impossible, but more times than not I miss out.
