Do you know if the whole Atlantic Flyway limit was reduced? It would piss me off mightily if they only reduced the northeast and not, say, the Chesapeake/mid Atlantic area as well.

Hitting the goose field in the morning. Seems to be a lot more geese around this year than in the past several years.

The whole AF (outside of Canada) is at the restrictive limits on mallards and geese, Maryland has even gone to 1 goose/30 days as they don't have the resident birds mixed in like we do.  And yes, there are ALOT more geese around this year than last.

A little Thanksgiving week hunting, ducks have been great up until this last weekend when it got warm and no wind. Now on to the end of the season push with a month to go.

Ellie has been coming along and really picking up on all the different hunting locations

Very nice pics.

I've been in the deer woods for weeks so haven't been out for waterfowl much. I did get out Sunday for an afternoon hunt at a place I haven't been to for a few years. Really just to get the lay of the land, see what's changed in the last couple years.

The only "waterfowl" I saw was a stinkin loon. As you pointed out, this warm spell is a disaster for duck hunting.

Season is almost over and probably the last retrieve for Addi of 2020, Ellie will be finishing up the last few hunts.  Funny thing is, if you look back at the begining of the season and opening day, the banded bird Ellie retrieved was sequential numbers with the band from today

Man what a great thread. I’ve been waterfowl hunting for 10 years and am just finally getting me a dog this spring. Got a deposit down on a british lab. Should be an interesting spring/summer. Thanks for all of the posts, I hope to be able to contribute a little myself.

Good luck! You'll need it

Took the girls for a walk out back on this cold day, realized after I took the picture they are in the exact spot I found my 2019 buck.

Birthday kid from a couple of days ago, 2 years went by really fast......and she can find mud in a desert     Countdown is on for the dogs "kid" to come home from school for the summer, 2 weeks from today

Been a bit since I have posted, busy summer has flown by and goose starts in less than 2 weeks.  Mutt and Jeff got to play on the fun boat for the afternoon, before the "hurricane" comes in tomorrow

First weekend of goose is over and Addi put another band in the boat, was nice because it was the "kids" first goose band.  4 year old molt migrant banded in Saratoga NY

Goose season has been hot and the girls are working hard, a few more bands in the boat along with a pile of birds.

Limit is 1 here for the regular goose season, as is all the Atlantic flyway (looks like we will VT/NY be going back to 2 this year)  September season is 8/day, NY is 15/day.  It also looks like in the Champlain zone and the rest of VT will also get a late season 12/1-2/15 at 5/day for the 22-23 season.

Well I have been slacking a bit on updates for the season.  Addi started to show her age a bit later this year, she still thinks she is 2, but starts to get a bit sore after a good hunt.  So Ellie will be taking over most of the retrieving duties this fall, Addi will still go on some of the easy swimming only hunts with no mud involved.

Friday will also be Addis 11th birthday

Here are a few shots of the girls from the 22' season

Remind me to never get another yellow dog

I didn't  He was sneaking up the back yard after a couple of hens, I was in a pair of shorts (they were camo) and crocs using the wheelbarrow as cover  When I came back to put the Benelli away, Ellie ran out and the next thing I saw was her dragging it down the hill   20#, 12", 1 1/8

He has been a pain in the ass all spring, tried to kill him "the real way" a few times and he had been beating me.  A total neighborhood bird, had him strutting in the road in front of the house 6 or 7 times, but can't shoot that direction.  This time you fucked up AAron.....

Went out Sunday for the last day of early season and limited, 5 geese in 5 shots. A very rare event, I can assure you . We were done shooting by 0700 and when we walked out of the field to get trucks to pack up another 300 birds showed up.

There are an absolute ton of geese over here. I wonder if they were pushed south early by the hurricane in maritime Canada? All of our corn fields are cut already, no doubt due to the drought, so all of those geese are going to hang out until regular season opener

ETA: We cripped one bird on the opening volley and elected to go collect it later due to incoming on the horizon. By the time we got around to it, that bird was 200 yards away, flapping and running across an adjacent pasture. My dog hadn't seen this bird go down and didn't know it was out there. I lined him and sent him and he cut that bird's trail and followed it way the hell out there. The bird was able to fly in brief spurts so it was off to the races. About 300 yards out there, he caught up to it and fought it into submission. It was an epic retrieve.

Nice!  We also have a ton of geese around that should be staying, no pressure here until 10/15 and lots of corn down.

Ellie did the "Nascar lap" at our spot on the 32 bird day, 3 times.  Chased a crip away from the boat to the far shore, down the far shore, back to the boat side and finally caught it, all in all about a 1/4-1/3 of a mile each time.  It is a giant production to get the boat out to open water and is a pain in the ass, to put it lightly.  I ended up shooting crips with #7 TSS at long ranges as my daughter worked for Remington this summer and got me some for cheap.

This is an amazing thread! Thanks OP for doing this. I have been an avid duck hunter for 40 years and have only killed one banded duck. I killed it in the Anahuac NWR in 2009. When I called the number, I was told the duck was banded about 200 yards from where I killed it.

I'm about to make a thread in here about my new pup.

Been quiet around here this summer.  Addi is pretty much retired from hunting, she will still go a couple of times this fall on some easy hunts but that is about it.

Goose season started Friday, and my first bird/Ellies first retrieve of the season was a banded honker.  Not sure if that is a good or bad omen

Great weekend considering how hot it is around here, we actually saw the first migrators come down on the north wind yesterday.  32 birds in the boat, 4 bands including one from Ontario and my hunting partners 1yo chocolate lab "Cooper" really figured out "holy shit, this is great!"

He was away at the pro trainer for 6 weeks this summer for the basics, but nothing can equal a bunch of geese hanging on top of your head.
