Glad you made it

I just came off a death investigation of a 32 year old mildly obese electricians apprentice who got "tickled" but it caused atrial fiberlation and he didn't make it

Shock severity is not really voltage dependent; more to do with the moisture of the skin. Saltwater(sweat) is a good conductor.

Even when removed, they keep stored energy that can kill you if not discharged.

You want to explain how Afib caused that?

Or so you mean V fib?

Cuz one, old people walk around with all day.  And the other, they walk about 10 steps.

Me too.  I understand the basics of how it works,  and that's enough to know I don't know.  I kill the whole house to change an outlet (the extent of my DIY with electricity).

Working in the yard one evening trying to get ready for my sons wedding rehearsal BBQ I was close to being finished, had to pee and didnt want to stop and go into the house. Hey its my yard, nearly 2 acres of secluded wooden lot. No way anyone can see so I walked over to the side of my garden shed and  whipped it out and pee'd on an old piece of Romex that was hidden by a couple of bricks. At the same time my wife was walking out to tell me dinner was ready. She said she saw me whipping the pocket monster out was was about to yell and scare me when she said I started making the Gawd Awefullest noise she gad ever heard come from a human, watched me bolt straight up to attention, kinda vibrated a little bit and fell over backwards with my back arched, me still holding my "member" shooting a stream of urine up onto the roof of the shed. She ran over and still not sure what was going on thinking I was stroking out or worse to me peeing all over myself...and her. I was stunned pretty good.

Never, never EVER URINATE ON A LIVE WIRE.

I went in and found the unmarked breaker and marked it. Then installed lights on the garden shed.

I have never been hit by 240 volts or a start cap but 277 volts is very unpleasant and that 660 volts from a light ballast did a real number on me. Knocking me out and temporary blindness were just a couple of things it did to me

I get 120v regularly but the one time I got 277v i felt it for thirty minutes afterwards.

Had a wirenut on a hot wire, but it wasnt on securely and I knocked it off running my hand by it.  Ouch.  I jumped, and was lucky i didnt fall off my ladder.  Little parts and screws from my pouches went everywhere not unlike sonic the hedgehog’s rings.

Safety stuff from other places is always wild. I find the little animated Chinese ways to die in industrial accidents humorous in a bizarre way.

Working on electricity I try and be cautious. Usually shut off all power at home temporarily if needed then test lines for power.

Other day I was at my brothers shop he had live wires that fell out of the emt near the junction box/outlet since material dropped on them pushing off the wall. Shit sparks if hit with anything so it’s a danger. We shut the breaker off the outlet was cold somehow he hit it with something it sparked up. There was another hit wire running to another part that comes from another breaker. We stopped right there he called an electrician.

IMO know your skill level if it’s too much call a pro.

Worst here, 440, and I was in soaking wet clothes, machine was soaking wet too. I worked briefly in a food processing plant, and the huge machine I was running popped a breaker in it's box, no time to wait for maintenance just to reset a breaker, popped the cover to the box with the electronics and stuck my damn finger in there to push the button and slipped somehow.

Didn't even register as an electrical shock, for some reason it just felt like somebody had run up behind me and kicked me in the small of the back as hard as they could, and I was dis-oriented pretty good for a few minutes. Thankfully it was only a split second and knocked me backwards off the circuit, could have been a lot worse.

I got hit by 10000 VDC once. Was working on a high voltage power supply for a Navy ESM equipment,  it would only fail after it heated up , so our division officer had us disable the deadman switch and make the voltage check connections on live gear. I should have wearing the big black rubber gloves but they got in the way of making the voltage check, so got rid of the glove. Next thing I saw was a large blue arc come off the top of a huge capacitor, it hit me on the back of my hand and came out my shoulder and burned through a skivvy shirt and a dungaree shirt and back into the equipment cabinet I was leaning against. Threw me back against the bulkhead and left me stunned, with a crater in my hand and another on my shoulder and an arm that didn't work for about 2 hours. Good times. Division officer about shit himself since he authorized everything we were doing. Electricity will definitely fuck up your day if you don't respect it.
