Just my opine. Two decades in the cop shop, and there's been a few occasions where gearing up was a necessity. Not a fan of full-auto -liability and not enough money to pay for ammo and enough training time. BUT I think it's fine to have access to tac teams who DO. Seriously, bad guys out there are able to equip better than me, and I'm expected to take them down with Mayberry-grade equipment so as not to intimidate the basement-dwellers in GD. I'd rather intimidate someone so I don't HAVE to shoot them.

Slingshots and squirt guns full of vinegar. Oh wait in NY slingshots would violate the no weapons that the people can't have rule.

Oh yeah...they should be "armed" with an identity...so they can stop trying to gain their identity with their badge, gun and authority....maybe realize average John Q public are not the ones who stole their lunch money in school....

Equipment isn't the problem with LE malfeasance any more than the 2nd Amendment is the cause for violent crime in the US.
The "problems" stem from the employment of this stuff, not the stuff itself. The only potential trouble I see with all the "military-type" equipment is that might work to attract the sort of people to the LE field that just want to kick in doors and play with cool toys.... and I don't think that's the type of people that need to be doing the job. |

Rifles, shotguns, pistols. Maybe something a little heavier for barricaded suspects, but no select fire weps.
Actually, I don't even really care about the weps so much as the mindset. I don't think cammies, Level IV body armor, armored helmets are necessary and go a LOT towards creating a sense of militarization. Oh yeah, no surplus military vehicles like MRAPs or MAT-Vs, just police-specific armored vehicles. |

Squirt Guns
Ok, let them keep an AR15 in the trunk in case things get crazy but holster a squirt gun and a taser. |

How did "rape whistle" not make the poll? Do you people want police officers getting raped?!?

Oh and the kicker for NFA weapons would be if the sheriff doesn't sign off on NFA weapons for civilians he isn't able to get ones for his people.
