I honestly think this guy lost it. Who doubts he had mental issues?
One issue I see is that too many people think PTSD is unique to combat veterans, but they are actually in the minority. Think of Private Pyle in FMJ, that guy didn't see combat but obviously was a prime example of someone going through a traumatic event. Maybe this guy was just a dirt bag hated by everyone around him. A grade-A loser. In any case, it appears psychological issues may be the root cause of what he did, so I won't be surprised if he gets off lightly. The situation they were in, why they were there, and what they were doing, the entire precedent, involves the fact he was thought to have mental issues. The prosecution is going to have a very hard time. I hope more facts come out that incriminate his motivations. |

If he didn't have PTSD and murdered them for the truck, he should be dead.
If he had PTSD so severely that he murdered them, he should be dead. |

How does it work in TX,does the death penalty have to be unanimous or do they just decide guilt and a judge sentences? As an aside,I saw a thing about the Boston bomber jury pool...apparently one of the women thought he was too young and "just made a big mistake". Speechless but not surprised. |

Can anyone explain to me the logic in taking someone target shooting who is suffering from PTSD? I realize that there are different levels of PTSD and I'm not saying that someone with PTSD should be kept away from firearms. I'm just trying to understand what the intended goal of the trip to the range was?

If something like the sound of gunshots is a trigger for PTSD, taking them out to the range and having them shoot over and over again and demonstrate to them that there is no harm in it, they will react less or not at all to that stimulus over time. One way to help people with PTSD from car accidents, for example, is to take them driving--first in a controlled environment and then out on the highway. |

Here's a VERY good article on Eddie Ray Routh with some pictures I've never seen of him during his tour.

Chad Littlefield shot 4 times in back. Also In face and top of head with 9mm handgun.
Kyle shot with a .45 4 times in the back, 1 in the side, and 1 in the head |

Eddie left the shooting range with the 9mm (that was issued to SEALs) and the .45. He first went to his uncle's to show him the new guns he got. Then went to his sister's and showed her his new truck and new guns. Then admitted to her that he murdered 2 men.
