With a million I could payoff my house, start education savings account to fund my daughters college, blow a few 100k and still have half the money. This. Although, I may quit my job and stay at home with the kids and have money to pay for my wifes med school. |

The perpetually poor will always be poor because they are inept.
Hand them a million bucks, and you'll have a poor person again in a matter of months. |

A young woman who won $1m on a state lottery has sparked outrage after she admitted to still claiming benefits.
Amanda Clayton of Lincoln Park, Michigan still claims $200 a month in food stamps and despite paying cash for a new home and car said, 'I'm still struggling.'
'I feel that it's okay because I mean, I have no income and I have bills to pay,' she said. 'I have two houses.'

The way most lotto's work, That million is the total of monthly payments for 20-30 years. If it is 30 - then her monthly check (before income tax withholding) is less than $3k. Not a stick in the eye, but $36k a year (before taxes) is not filthy rich either.
Likewise the lump sum payoff of a 1m lotto would be around $400k before tax, and probably closer to $250k after tax. |

Welfarians are probably the group that spends the most on lotto, they tend to be the laziest and least intelligent in society. Probably from the guy in Bay City who had the same situation. He claims all the money is gone so he needs his welfare. |

she makes a point though. she's paid back more than she ever took, and now she's getting some of those tax dollars that she paid in back. if her local goverment is too stupid to cut her off so be it.

Speaking of the poor with two or even one home............ In some states (if not most states)........ I heard that......... In bankruptcy (or for the purpose of getting welfare or FS money) USUALLY you can keep/have one home and one vehicle. The rub is that, your one home, could be valued at $$$$$$$$. So, discharge your debts through bankruptcy (or collect the welfare or FS money). Then LATER.......sell your home. You'll be rich again. Ta-Da!! Legislatures all over the country are STUPID if they haven't been aware of this. Aloha, Mark |

With a million I could payoff my house, start education savings accounts to fund my daughters college, blow a few 100k and still have half the money. Put $1M into an annuity. Grow the annuity by 0.5%-1% per year real value in excess of inflation. Take the leftover interest as income. You now have a larger income than most american families and you will never have to work. It's about $35k/yr for life (and your child's life, and their child's life, and their child's life, and...). Of course, she didn't blow a million dollars because she didn't GET a million dollars. She probably got around $575k after taxes. Minus whatever her shitbird lawyer took (because you KNOW she didn't go anyplace reputable)... Minus a $200k house, minus a $50k car, minus whatever she outright blew... It was gone in a month. |

Aloha, Mark Yep, there have been a couple of cases where some CEO or other mega rich person builds a giagantic mansion here in FL, moves in, declares bankruptcy and keeps the mansion. The guy that ran Singer in the 80s and ended up in prison for fraud or something along those lines did that. |

I currently make $36,000/yr at my full time job actually working. I also have two houses, one in the Detroit area and a cottage/camp in northern MI. Plus bills - for both houses. To pay those bills like a responsible adult, I have two extra part time jobs instead of scamming the government and taxpayers. Trust me $36,000/yr in Lincoln Park will go a long way, especially when she could get a job supplementing her free $3,000/mo. |

Just goes to show that stupid + money = stupid. That commonly happens with people that win the lottery. They're lower income types that just don't know how to manage money. They blow it all and end up right back where they were. Poor people have poor ways I think about 3/4 of lottery winners actually end up worse off then before they won the money. They buy things they can't afford and fail to get decent legal and financial advice. |

The lottery ticket was paid for with welfare money. It should have been seized.
That is a prima facia case of gambling with welfare money. |

Local politicians are pushing for a change in the law that prevents lottery winners from still being able to claim state benefits.
Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2111060/Amanda-Clayton––1m-lottery-winner-STILL-collecting-welfare.html#ixzz1oTX97M00 Here is my question, WHY IN THE HELL do they need a law for that to work!? It's common sense, you just won the lottery so now you no longer get handouts to us. |
