He's a bust, no doubt.  Most experts considered him a good pick at the time, however...

As for the bathroom, they must have done so this year... Or we'd have been stuck with Johnny Paycheck.

Lol my cowboys are going to be just good enough to miss a good draft pick and justify Jones' nuttiness to himself...

The early draft picks will probably all be offense- QB's, running backs and receivers. We need defensive players, and there should be some good ones in the middle of the rounds.

Elite defensive players have been known to go in the top 10, plus trading down gain more draft picks.  Dallas hasn't had a safety that could start on another NFL team since Darren Woodson- this is a large part of their suckdom.

Elite defensive players like Morris Claiborne?
I hope Steven can lock Jerry in a bathroom next draft.

There was an article on ESPN that said his son actually had to take the paper out of his stupid fucking hand that had Jonny Douchebags name on it

That's what gives me hope for this team. Stephen seems like maybe he has a clue and Jerry loves scotch in heroic quantities. He may be joining Al Davis in the owners box in the sky sooner than we think.

Just hoping it continues.

IMO the secondary is going to be exposed because of a lack of NFL level talent and almost no pressure on the QB. So far the LB play has been decent, and their offense has not put them in too many bad positions other than the SF game.

And when I say exposed, by that I mean they will lose against the better passing teams in the league.

the problem there isn't so much talent as scheme fit.  carr is a pure press-man corner who has never been good at playing zone.  when he was playing press man in 2012, he was one of the best playmakers on the defense.  when kiffin switched to a zone scheme, he played poorly.  church is a strong safety in terms of build and playstyle, and he does well in that role.  but he's a poor fit for FS.  we may never know what claiborne was capable of, because his body just hasn't been equal to the physicality of the NFL game.  but scandrick can play--he's one of the best inside cover guys in the league, and that's the toughest job in the secondary.

the defense is not good--there's too much of an overall talent deficiency.  the problem is that they're starting a bunch of guys who would be role-players on other teams, along with a couple of talented guys who have been forced to play in bad situations due to scheme, injury, and so forth.

and it's worth noting that they played one of the best passing teams in the league on sunday night--after 3+ quarters, the score was 31-3.  compare that to last season, when the cowboys had the services of lee, ware, and hatcher.

i'm really, really happy with the way the team is fighting right now, but i'm also reminded of parcells' classic line...

"don't eat the cheese."

if they keep scratching and clawing like underdogs, this could turn into a surprisingly good season.  if they start thinking they've arrived, it's going to get grim in a hurry.  especially with that brutal stretch of away games late in the year.

So far so good, but IMO anyway, at some point that defense is going to be exposed. I am very happy with the O line play, and as long as Romo has some help he will be a very efficient QB and they will be in most games this year.

That said I don't think the eagles are as good as everyone thinks either. Dallas could compete for the NFC east and make it to the playoffs.

well, you have to ask yourself what it is about the defense that is going to be exposed.  marinelli is a top-flight coordinator, who (unlike kiffin) has run some top defenses very recently.  objectively speaking, the guys on the field aren't a terribly talented bunch, but they put out a ton of effort--a hallmark of marinelli's squads.  what's interesting is that the LBs were supposed to be a huge weakness, but they've consistently stepped up.  last season, 3 of the top 5 tacklers were secondary players.  now the LBs dominate that stat--this is a good sign.

the DL was supposed to be the worst position group in the field, but the major injury guys (melton, crawford, spencer) are stepping up, the role players have been doing solid work, and even the warm body (hayden) is showing up in the backfield.  and the injured 2nd round pass rush specialist has started to work out, and will be able to hit the ground running for the back half of the season.

they are what they are--a bunch of no-names who show up and fight.  they're going to have some bad games--no doubt about that.  but they're already playing far better than we've seen for the last 3 years, and i don't think that's going to change due to scheme or talent 'exposure' in the same way, because they're depending on effort, not talent.

I would say Drew Brees is a pretty elite quarterback and he didn't do anything to the defense for 3+ quarters.

Didn't get to watch the game but I will admit maybe I was wrong about the defense. I do think that the saints are a different team on the road than they are at home, but it seems the dallas defense is at least playing hard and that something.

And looking at their schedule its not that tough, they may be able to squeak out 9 or 10 wins this year.

I predicted 6-10 but I will admit that was based on how the defense played last year and the people they lost.

With a running game that seems to be helping the defense so far.

We need to convince our receivers that the ball won't hurt them- if it hits them in their hands it's OK to grab it.

Gun slinging Romo has always been a problem. But conservative Romo we always seem to win with. I will take the latter the rest of the season, please.

Turn overs are a part of the game, but the punt happened at about the Dallas 12 and was a 'give-me' for Seattle and then the center exchange was at what...the 20?  Dallas got lucky and held them to a FG, but those were two TOs that Seattle had nothing to do with, so they hurt more.

Agreed. We will find out what type of team this is in the next month or so. But looking at their remaining games, there is no reason barring an injury they cant go 11-5, 12-4.

No one will be happier than me if I am wrong about predicting them to go 6-10.

This win won't completely shut up the naysayers, but at least they'll be quiet for another week.

In my opinion, this should put us at 1st or 2nd in the power rankings along with San Diego. We just dominated the defending champs at their house. The score was a lot closer than it should be but outside of three plays with the blocked punt, muffed punt, and fumbled snap, that game should have been over before the 4th quarter even rolled around. I had us at a 50/50 shot of winning, but I didn't think we would dominate them like we did.

Absolutely right. Romo is the reason they have had the wins they have had so far- in spite of what he has had to work with.
Isn't it amazing how having a good offensive line to keep Romo from having to run for his life makes the passing game and running game better?
Even last year when we put up 48 points on Denver and the defense lost the game for us= even then people were bashing Romo.
Our defense is OK and could use some help from the next draft, but it is good enough to not throw away a lead the offense gets- barely good enough.
