I'm less than a mile from the water. Ike's eye passed over my house.  We were without power for 2 days.

My buddy in Sugarland didn't have power for a month.

<shrug>

Buy water now. And fill every gas can you own.  If you can't fill your tank from cans, go buy more cans now.  48 hours out every gas station in town will be on empty tanks and every store shelf cleaned of water.

That map looks more like what I'm used to seeing.  I think the Ike/Katrina storms had 92deg water to feed on.  It's kind of neat to look at water temps behind the storms and try to wrap your brain around the amount of energy transferred from the water to the atmosphere.

Zone C right below Beltway 8.

If it's a Cat 2 it's going to fuck up Houston.

Hell Ike in 2008 was a Cat 1 and it did all sorts of damage around here.  My house didn't have power for 2 weeks.

I did the water/dry food (Ramen Noodles) earlier today. I'll be doing the car/gas tank refill later today.

I'm on the TX/LA border.  I appreciate the heads up.  Just moved into a new house and don't have all the preps set.  Once the wife gets home from work, I'll go make another food and fuel run.  Probably a good thing to do anyways for the new house.  But I'm really missing my standby, auto-switching, whole house natural gas genny now though.

Let's hope it stays with this forecast.  If it does the only thing we will get on the east side of the bay will be clouds and drizzle.

I think this will be more a rain event than anything.  Little wind along the coast but I'm not liking the flood potential.  Fuck we flooded last August and are still unpacking boxes after the rebuild.  This bastard will be slow-moving and that worries me.  Good luck everyone.

Playing out right in my book is let it go to mexico, then the other alternatives are Louisiana or Brownsville .

If it goes wrong and hits houston or slightly west of it, then I will make a lot of money but the caveat is no sleep. Maybe 4 hours a night.
