Friend of mine took a trip to Africa, helping out with the State Department.  Ethiopia.

He made it about a month before they killed him.  A local dude beat him to death with a baseball bat to steal his PlayStation.

Yes a girl who was a few years older than me in school, started her car one winter morning and a couple guys looking for a dump car to use in a bank robbery kidnapped her and killed her after it was done.

Yes.  He was a great man, shot and killed by a friend of his during a disagreement.  I don't know the details, except the murderer called the cops on himself and waited for them to come arrest him.

ETA:  Jesus, this is a depressing thread.

My young neighbor below me lived with his mom and while a pleasant guy to talk with, he was a banger.  He went to prison in Texas and came back after he got out.  His mom eventually moved away and I heard that he was murdered while answering his front door, up in Ft. Lauderdale.

His mom passed away right before, from what I heard.

I knew Patrick for well over a decade.  Even went down to the Miami jail and picked him up after he drove down a one-way street, into a Miami PD stake out and was arrested for a DUI!

A neighbor that I knew from the time I was a little kid. She would come over to our kitchen and chat with my mom before dinner most evenings. At the time she was a widow living alone. Someone surprised her while she was cooking her dinner, some burned up soup was still on the stove, and chased her upstairs. She may have been trying to get to the pistol she kept. She was stabbed to death and the house was ransacked. Homicide detective said it was the worst scene he had ever worked. Their main suspect walked in front of a train three months later. Police closed the case after three years.

I guy I went to high school with got knifed a couple of years after graduation. Someone found him on their front lawn bled out. I guess he was trying to get to their house for help.

He was an asshole, I'm surprised it took that long for someone to kill him.

The killer was never found and no it wasn't me.

Yes, at least 3.

My Mom's close friend's daughter she was murdered in Casper, WY a few years ago.

They caught the guy who admitted to it.

His trial starts in a few weeks.

Another kid who was a year below me in school.

He was dealing coke in Bozeman MT and two MSU football player who were former gang members kid knapped him and gunned him down in a field outside of town.

Another kid who was a couple years below me was living with a known drug dealer.

The guy missed around with his GF and it ended up being a big mess.

The dude dared him if he had the balls to end him...dude took him up on it and stuck a 12 gauge in his face and removed his head.

It was a huge deal in my home town.  The Judge straight out told his parents they were responsible for raising him to be such a shitbag and they had every opportunity to stop it before it happened.

That made the front page of the paper.

A friend answered the door to a stranger one night, The stranger pushed the door and was assisted by a second person that had been hiding outside. The two forced their way inside. My friend grabbed a shotgun but it was taken away from him before he was able to get a shot off. Apparently he did not have one loaded in the chamber. The intruders killed my friend and his wife. They were caught a short time later.

a lady I worked with, did not know her but seen her a few times at work.  Was stabbed to death by an ex at home.

One of my female friends from high school older brother was robbed and killed by someone he played poker with. 2001

One of my childhood friends tried to stop a lady being mugged and got shot several times, he lived, but lost the use of his dick and some other complications.

I knew a young couple in high school, but the girl got pregnant and I think they broke up and she was so afraid of what her parents might do,, well she killed herself. One of the links said the dad believed the stepfather was abusing her..makes me wonder if it was the stepdads baby and not the kids.. i dunno. I did not remember that part.  Then when they were interviewing her mother the father shot her live on tv. I never met the parents just knew the teenagers. This was a big news story when it happened and made it into traces of death and michael moores... pos. link

Also, my old babysitter is on deathrow for murder.  Around 1985.

Yes, that too.  I knew one of the sailors stationed at the Pentagon.

Oh and two former Navy coworkers.  One was shot and killed by his girlfriend during an argument; then she killed herself.  The other was killed after getting in a fight in a bar; the other person followed him out and shot him in the head.

I knew a dude who was shot and killed while he slept in his bed when 2 burglars broke in. Back around 1980.
They thought he had dope in the house.
They also shot a second guy in the foot who played dead. He heard them talking about getting a knife in the kitchen to make sure they were finished as the gunfire was too loud.
He quit playing dead, got his 1911 and ran them off with some shots. Too bad he missed. They were caught, convicted and sent to prison.

The guy who died was cool. He was burned badly in a vehicle accident when a LEO rear ended him at a high rate of speed while he sat at a red light in his CJ jeep. Tacoma City Police as I recall.
We used to party some. He used to hang with folks who produced a few Rock festivals in the area. They were . . . characters.
When he died his Akita bitch had a litter of pups. Me and a buddy were each given one of the pups by family.
RIP Jimmy.

A guy I knew pretty well in high school was murdered about a year after we graduated.  It was drug related (I guess he got into selling small amounts of weed on the side) and these guys (actually kids, the killers were both 15) set him up.  Killed him with a single shot from a .22 that entered through the side of his chest and hit his heart.

He hopped back in his car and made it a few blocks away before bleeding out and crashing into a garage.  Kids were caught the next day after bragging about killing someone to their "friends.".

Yes, a very good friend of mine was murdered on March 2, 2003.  The last person spoke with him at 11:15 pm the night before and he was on his way home.  The next morning he failed to pick up his daughter for softball practice.  His ex-wife and daughter went to his house and found him dead in the garage about 12:00 hours later.  He was shot five times in the head with a .22 caliber weapon.  There were no shell casings at the scene.  His murderer has never been found.  It is clear he was executed and he wasn't robbed as nothing was missing.  Someone was waiting for him in his garage and the police don't even have a motive.

I had spoken with him two days before as we made plans to go out for dinner and drinks on March 7th.  We were going to meet another friend of ours.  I was questioned by the police because my phone number was a recent number in his phone.  I felt helpless during the interview because I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to harm him.  While I was at the police station, I saw his Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been towed there as evidence.  The mess was splattered all over the side of his car.  I knew him since we were kids.  I was a pall bearer at his funeral.  It was such a sad event as it was closed casket and his two kids were there. Even though he was divorced he was very close with his kids.  There were detectives watching people at the wake and we even saw them follow a few people as cars left the funeral home.

It still hurts to think about all these years later.

Yes, 2 people that were murdered in the traditional sense, another in the 9/11 attacks.

One was a high school age friend who was stabbed in a stupid, meaningless fight, and the murderer supposedly ran off to Europe.

The other was a weed dealer (really nice guy, actually, just sold some weed to locals in his neighborhood, never bothered anyone or caused any trouble), who knew his killer(s), because he let them into the apartment, and supposedly he never let anyone in that he didn't know,  but it was never solved...most likely they killed him for his stash and money, and it's figured he was then offed since he knew the killer(s) and it's not smart to leave a witness.

Randy Archer, intervened with some gangbangers hassling a kid in front of a 7-11. Stabbed and bled out right there. Of course no one saw anything.

Bob Bringhurst was my paramedic preceptor, Held up in an Olive Garden parking lot and shot as he complied with the cocksucker that robbed him. Right in front of his wife.

Guy I knew from the firehouse disappeared, then reappeared in a creek culvert a few months later, badly decomposed. They found his car at one of the casinos, and found him 20 miles away. Still listed as an unsolved case.

My girlfriend works with the brother of a guy who got murdered and dumped on the side of an offramp. They made an episode of City Confidential and another tv show about it.

Lady i worked with at 2 places got mixed up with meth dealers..they found her in a 55gal drum on some land in another part of the state.

Another lady i worked with was shot in the head by her husband. Technically it was only manslaughter because apparently she liked having a gun to her head during sex.

My sister in law and two other people were murdered by her crazy ex boyfriend Karl Knapp.  It was an episode of The Mind of a Murderer called Evil Rider.  He shot her, a coworker of hers and guy at another business.

The POS was her ex boyfriend and was abusive.  She had finally gotten away from him and didn't have any contact with him.  He decided it wasn't over and killed her.  The POS killed her knowing that her ex-husband had terminal cancer and was going to die in a month or two and killing her would orphan her kids.  FUCK THAT GUY.  Chickenshit asshole ran into a pawnshop and barricaded himself, when the cops showed up he shot himself in the chest, but the fucker didn't die.

There was a woman that I used to deal with on a weekly basis at work that wound up murdering her children.
She was always very pleasant to talk to, mostly idle chatter. I did get a tweeker vibe from her and she worked and lived in an area rife with meth.
Turned out she was indeed a methhead and killed her kids because of a custody dispute/money issues/being a stupid fucking tweeker.

Yup. Girl I went to school with. Ruled a suicide, but her boyfriend had a history of being abusive towards her. Widely believed by friends and family that he murdered her
and covered it up

ETA: Thought of another. One of my best friends, his older brother has been in and out of prison the entire time I have known him, mostly drug related. On his last release, he wound up at his girlfriends parents house and beat the father to death before dousing everything in gas and trying to burn down the house to hide any evidence. Currently serving life IIRC.

Family friend was 1 of the 11 murders for which serial killer Henry Lee Lucas was convicted in Texas in the 1980's.  The case of Lucas is generally considered to be one the worst cases of botched/failed law enforcement in  Texas/American criminal jurisprudence history.  From the years 1951-1983, while not in prison or otherwise locked up, Lucas killed somewhere in the neighborhood 1.47 victims per month as a conservative estimate.  Once finally arrested in 1983 law enforcement came to Texas from across the country to try to clear unsolved homicides and Lucas played along for jail "perks" to the point at one time he had confessed to some 3,000 murders.  After more than a decade many in law enforcement realized they had been duped by a manipulative monster with a 6th grade education, common sense finally prevailed after multiple media reports questioning law enforcement actions/credibility...  After being given the death penalty in Texas in the 1980's Lucas had his sentence commuted to life in prison by Gov George Bush in 1998, much to the surprise and consternation of his victims' families/loved ones.  It is now assumed that Lucas killed between 300-400 people.  Lucas died peacefully in his prison cell in 2001.
