Heated up and drained the wheel weight ally from my casting pot into ingots.

Put some linotype ingots in the pot.

Im gonna help out a friend of a friend who needs some .309 cal 75 gr cast bullets for a 32 french longue. He prefers hard cast.

Ordered a 300 AAC collet die. I have no need to F/L size and work the hell out of the neck of my beautiful hand-made nickel brass.

Would have ordered a Type-S neck die but they sold the last one on hand within the last 24 hours (they are custom and I don't feel like waiting now).

Things are awfully thin out there....

Yesterday afternoon I worked on figuring out why my 750 was spilling powder when I loaded .380.  I got it solved - I think.

I’d noticed some difficulty with starting the bullets on some cases.  As it turns out, I didn’t have the expander set right, so most cases were just barely expanded and not belled very well.  So the expander didn’t “follow” the case all the way down, and that (probably) allowed powder to leak.

If I get time this weekend, I’ll run another batch with the expander double checked before I start.  I think I have it fixed, but I want to be sure...

Prepped cases for .40 S&W reload.   I have 200 count 180 grain Hornady XTP and AA #7 powder ready to go for my pet load.

So I complete all steps on my single stage press up to priming the cases and found I have no small pistol primers!

I now have to find primers with most LGS shelves empty.  Ugh!  Looking at all those pretty shiny and sized cases and hoping someone nearby will get primers in stock soon - at least enough to complete this batch.

Oh well, at least the cases are ready.

Loaded probably the last batch of 9mm for the year.  Should have enough to keep from having to tap into my factory supply for a couple months.  Think I've gone to more matches since I started reloading again.

Bought a mobile workbench to store reloading stuff in, under my reloading bench for black friday. $250 at home depot. Nicest things are it has soft close drawers and the tall drawer is JUST deep enough for 4 lb pistol/8lb rifle hodgdon jugs!

  • dry tumbling brass from my latest brass sorting endeavor, run 2 qts every 12 hours.
  • Plugged in the a/c adapter into my old Dillon electronic scale only to find the scale doesn't recognize it's getting power
  • Loaded some 762x39 reloads into some mags plan to shoot in the morning
  • vowed to reorganize my reloading room, it's somewhat tidy but think I have way too much brass now, already on my 3rd Tidy Cat bucket for .223 storage
  • Figuring out how to deal with the forthcoming Frankford Arsenal wet tumbler.  Fastest way would be to use the 650 with case feeder and an univeral decapping die but only have 3 caliber conversions for the 650 and 8 or so for the 550B.

Running batches of .40 brass through the tumbler and decapping as it comes out and rearranging my bench to be ready for the Dillon SDB when it gets here Tuesday.

In the process I'm finding out I have multiples of dies and tools that I ought to put on ebay. Just way more stuff than I need.

Made 750 rounds of 9mm this morning.

I recently polished the inside of the powder drop on my 650 so for fun I checked how consistent the drop is. I measured 25 drops and every single one was 4.0 grains of titegroup.

I didn’t have issues before but occasionally I would get a 3.9 mixed in.

  • Shot 160 45ACP reloads, not a single hiccup (FTF, go bang, extraction, etc)
  • Shot 60 9mm reloads, worked flawlessly
  • Shot 150 rds of 762x39 reloads, had 2 or 3 failure to feed from the magazine, I blame the mag, once chambered they all went bang like they're supposed to
Got to range about 8:45 am, severe fog rolled in, sort of eerie.  Sort of like a nuclear winter.  Half expected to be met by hordes of mutant zombies

Loaded 500 round of 9mm. Still using the mixed 115/147 bullets from American Reloading I bought on sale for $50/1,000 five years ago. Sorted another 2k of those bullets as well.

Currently looking at 600 Rem. 6 1/2 primers a buddy gave me. Planning to load a few and see if they work in a 9mm PCC. Don’t have any other use for them.

Cleaned a pile of .30-06 -- both spit out by my M1 Garand on Sunday and a ton of once-fired that a fellow range member gifted me. Only thing I didn't score that day was .45 ACP brass, well outside of SPP brass which went back in the brass bucket.

Edit: Hey, today is my fifth anniversary joining AR15.com!

  • loaded my last 45ACP bullet I powder coated myself
  • researched load data for 45ACP 200 gr SWC using Red Dot
  • decided to put off loading 45ACP 200 gr SWC and put a brand new 650 toolhead and Dillon depriming die on the 650 and starting decapping 45 cases in anticipation of my wet tumbler from MidwayUSA
  • sorted 45 brass to be deprimed, weeding out small primed and AMERC headstamped cases
  • emptied contents of shop vac and small container of mystery gun powder from past bullet pulls into a small catfood can and torched it

Tried to organize things a bit. Decided to start listing a couple items I don't need anymore.

Was looking to do a run of blasting ammo but realized I have FAR fewer large rifle primers than I had thought. Apparently I've shot way more 308 than I remember over the last few years.

May have to phone a friend and do some trading.

Last year, a guy advertised some free 223 brass in the local classifieds.  When I picked it up, I realized that most of it was sized and deprimed, and primed with new primers.  When I got home I measured the cases and figured out why he was getting rid of it- the headspace was a little long on them.  With the recent shortages, I pulled them out and resized all 270 pieces, and made 50 rounds of 223 using 52 grain Noslers CC and Benchmark.

on a 45ACP decapping roll with the 650

hitting an issue where 1 in about 15 cases gets wedged on the ejector wire at station 5 and binding the whole shell plate
removed and cleaned shellplate, fiddled with the tension on the shell plate bolt, bent the wire a hair, cleaned the slots in the shell plate where the rims of the 45 brass sits in...bit better but not 100%

Oh then sorting brass by headstamp, weeding out AMERC and small primed brass

Picked up 2lbs of AA2520 and another 1k of large pistol match magnum primers.  Dealer still had some large rifle and large pistol left.  1k limit though.  I’ll get another k of something if he’s got any left later this week.

He still had 8lb jugs of Reloder 10x and several singles of BLC(2).  I’ll probably pick up some of that later too if it’s still there.

Dumped the old well used corn cob out of the tumbler, cleaned it and loaded it with fresh stuff. Then sorted through the last batch of .40 brass and have it cleaning up in the tumbler (actually vibratory cleaner is the correct term I think) now.

Once the .40 is clean I have more batches of .223 and .30 carbine to run through.
