loaded about 200 rds of 45ACP

had to cull 3 cases found during plunk testing in a 45ACP barrel:  1 had a case split,  the other two were just warped or something and didn't chamber all the way

decided to add another quality control step to my reloads, standing the finished rounds on a flat surface and checking for wobbles.  I missed a few seated too high when I checked them in a pistol barrel

My 550B is still set up for 45ACP and was using that for production until I got the 650 converted to 45acp which I did a few weeks ago.  Finally decided to dump the powder in the 550's powder (Red Dot) measure back to the powder jug

Loaded 600rds of 9mm on the XL750.

Hopefully I can get another 400rds loaded tomorrow.

The Inline Fabrication roller handle keeps coming loose so I blue loctited the roller handle to the shaft.  I wish I had just gotten another Dillon handle like I have on my RL550B.

ETA:  Blue loctited seems to have solved that issue as I loaded another 300rds without it coming loose.  Now I just have to figure out the primer bar issue and I will be 100% happy with the press.

Set up the 550 for 32 acp. It is a finicky round that my 550 does not like.

Did get about 50 rounds loaded with my PCC bullets.

The only issues I had on my first run with my 750 were that I was amazed at how smooth everything was.  It was so smooth that I went really slowly, just to make sure I wasn’t missing something!

My input: I received my Double Alpha Magnetic Powder Check over the weekend.

This gadget is designed to give a Dillon user more flexibility in things like bullet feeders, since Dillon’s powder check can interfere with the adjacent die station.

It works differently from Dillon’s powder check in two ways.  First, the actual sensor part is a Hall Effect sensor - it detects the proximity of a magnet - so there isn’t any “push” on the electronics part of the device, and no potential “play” issues.  Second, it detects the position of the ram by the height of the case mouth.  (DA’s blurb says case “rim,” but it’s really the case mouth.)  So there’s no need for a push rod that contacts the shell plate - and thus more room on the tool head.

I’m going to try it out today, since I actually have a day off that isn’t crammed with other stuff to do.  I hope to run a bunch of .380s today, since I’ve had everything I needed to do those loads for weeks...except time to do it.

Was going to go hunting this morning, but rain and wind made that a no go.  So I’m cleaning up my bench, getting set up to run 9mm and ordered some lock rings from Midway.

Played with 338 Win some more.

Finally had success using a more traditional powder vs. a new ultra-modern powder.

Which leads me to a thought... Just because a powder CAN be used in a cartridge, doesn't mean it should be. I'm giving another gold star to Nosler load data. They publish all sorts of extra interesting bits of data that really help with load development. The other manufacturers should follow their example.

I got 99 rounds of 380 loaded this morning.  Funny story about why it’s not 100 (which was all I’d planned to do before lunch).

It all went well until the priming step for this one case.  I guess the primer wasn’t quite perfectly aligned in the primer punch, because as I pushed the lever forward to prime, something went “PING” and I heard something hit the toolbox behind me.

I found the primer cup...it was slightly deformed and missing both the anvil and the foil paper (no idea where they went).

So instead of breaking into another tray of primers, I just settled for 99 rounds.

I called it quits after that batch so I could clean up and get lunch.  I also have to figure out why the measure was spilling a little bit of CFE Pistol around the case every now and then.  I’d planned to take the shell plate off to see if that primer anvil was stuck somewhere in the press, but cleaning up the powder is the bigger issue.

Oh, and the Double Alpha powder check worked well, though I think I should wax the inside of the die body so the insert slides smoother - I got a few quick beeps as I was going, but they were all due to the case sensor insert not moving as smoothly as it should have.

Another 200 rds of 45ACP completed.  Making sure I seat the primers hard this time to avoid the wobbles.  Chambered check all the completed rounds and then put the rounds on flat surface to check for high primers.  Had 2 slightly high

Actually fascinated by how well the 650 is running.  Recently got the roller bearing things for the indexer and case insert slide.  Shellplate doesn't snap in place, cut the spring under the ball bearing long time ago.  Polished the powder measure collet and case insert swing contraption.  Lubed the 45 brass with Dillon spray lube.

Sorted some more cases by headstamp, culled a small primer pocketed case and 20 or so more AMERCS.  Found a 380, 40SW, and 22 LR cases in the mix.

Finished loading up 1200rds on the new XL750.

I bent the primer shuttle rod to clear the housing so the last 400rds went smoothly.

I also wound up ordering dies and conversion kits for 40 S&W and 45 AUTO for the XL750.

I decided to order the carbide 223 dies as well....I'm not sure why but it was only $50 extra over the regular dies and I've never tried them before.

I'm sending my Inline Fab Ergo handle back for the XL750 as the roller handle kept coming loose from the shaft even after using blue loctite and letting it cure.

Previous poster probably should have used Red Loctite 268 or Green Loctite 620.

Finished an ammo can full of 44 mag 240gr SJFP rounds.  Retooled both 650s, one for .300AAC, and one for .45ACP.  Set powders and started cranking them off.

125gr SMK over 19.5gr Lil Gun

230gr RMR FMJ over 4.9gr WST

Did some range testing to see where I should start on my 6.5cm loads. After sighting in with some factory ammo, I shot 8 different loads to look for velocity. 40.8 to 42.2. I'll probably work some more loads up in the 41.4 to 41.8 range. All rounds were .020" off the lands.

Sized, primed and belled some .45 ACP cases. This past weekend I rolled my first ever 50 rounds and took them out for testing. They all worked flawlessly though I did have two rounds that I clearly put just a touch too much powder in and had some significant recoil

Another ARFCOM member and myself did a road trip to Columbia, SC to three gun stores:

Shooter's Choice
Palmetto State Armory
Sportsmans Warehouse

And found no reloading stuff in the first two stores and here is the shelving unit in Sportsmans Warehouse that normally holds reloading components:

Scored a lb of Reloder 7, 1k of large pistol match primers, and 200 50gr Hornady V-Max bullets.  Only reason I'm glad about the bullets is I got 200 of them for $16.50 still in the original, faded box.  Old, out of the way mom & pop gun store.  Guy said he thought he had some small rifle primers too but they were gone.

Winchester 1x brass
Berrys 115 gr plated bullet
HP38 4.7 gr
Fiocchi SPP
OAL 1.135"

Loaded then shot another 50 rds out back today, just to make sure before committing to the 2000 rd run.

Last tumbling session was messy, the craptastic bowl on the FA tumbler dropped media all over my shop floor.

She's dead, Jim.

So, off to the closest box store and grabbed a Hornady tumbler.  Also grabbed:
  • Hornady collet puller and #7 insert
  • 400 180gr for the 30-40
  • a pound of H4895
  • 100 Federal LRP

Tumbled the 10mm brass from the last couple of range sessions and started in on the 5 gallon bucket of .223 and 5.56 brass that's been mocking me for many moons.

loaded up 10 more primer tubes with LP primers.

Almost done loading up all my powder coated 45ACP bullets

Dumped some cases into the 650 case feeder

Started sorting by 45ACP brass to weed out AMERC and small primer pocketed ones

Found some more 45ACP projectiles to load up next, some 230 gr LRN and slew of 200 gr SWC's

Searched where to buy Lemishine for my forthcoming FART tumbler then found that it's mostly citric acid and I have a shitload of that so didn't pursue the Lemishine hunt

Dogs got us up early today so I’m off to a good start.

Got all the Christmas decorations down from the attic and cleaned part of the garage. While I was there I fired up the tumbler and sorted 3 gallons of brass.

I’ll rotate batches in the tumbler throughout the day between cleaning and cooking.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Hope you all get to enjoy time with family and friends.

200 ish rounds of 32 ACP.

I have said it before, I will say it again... My 550 does not like this round. Poor alignment with the die on station 1, finicky alignment on station 4, does not eject the loaded rounds. I have to pull them from the press by hand.

Oh, and remington brass does not fit in the shell plate. So, I have about 35 of those that I will have to load single stage...

But, I am out of bullets till I can powder coat some more.

Finished loading 9mm. Now about to switch the 550 back over to 45 after a little cleaning and lube.

Noticed the low primer alarm is only working intermittently . Checked the voltage on the battery and it was good so dissassembled it and cleaned up the battery contacts with a qtip soaked in vinegar, now it's functioning correctly again.

Loaded somewhere north of 350 rds of 55 gr Pulled 5.56 plinking loads.
Loaded around 250 9mm for a Sig 226 I got off the EE so I dont have to dip into the stash when it arrives.
Loaded 40 gr Nosler BT in front of Accurate LT-30 in .223 Rem for my Sako A7 coyote rifle
Loaded 55 gr Nosler BT in front of Hodgdon Benchmark for my .223 Mini Mauser varmint rifle
Sorted a ton of components i recently took delivery of and and got ready to ship a bunch I recently sold.
Prepping Starline .44 Spl brass for 180 gr XTP and 180 gr Speer GDHP

Went to start loading .338 WM for the first time and got the first case stuck BAD. Lubed it like I do all the others with the same die setup. Still dont know why it got stuck. When Im brave enough to try again, Ill start by cleaning the Dies VERY well and try brass cases instead of nickel.
