Thanks!  I'm glad I set it up with so much cupboard room.  I can hide all the clutter from view, but have it handy where I need it.

What are the dimensions of your room?  I would really like to do something like this in my unfinished basement but don't know how much space to allocate.  A floor plan drawing would be awesome.

Tag.  About to start a home build and need ideas on a safe door for my gunroom.

From what I was told I can get a nice 8'X'8' room out of the space underneath the front door stoop.

It will be reinforced poured concrete forms while they do the foundation.  The stoop will be corefloor or reinforced and then poured over the top.

Should be quite a brick shithouse

Sounds cool. How about some step by step pics?
Are you planning on hiding the safe door?

Awesome idea when you think about security.  Explain how you are building it and if you want to conceal the safe door.  Because guys who want to steal guns wouldn't come to a site like this to develop intell to steal guns.

90% or more of the members here are a bunch of turds when it comes to security.  Stop running your mouths and putting pics out on the web.

Most of us are adults and can post at our own risk.  The purpose of the internet is sharing information.  Besides, if it weren't for the pics this would be boring.

Thought that was the point of this thread?, to talk about or show off  you're vaults,
Gun rooms, racks, hidden doors,, etc.....
I'm not sure how showing pics of a safe or a hidden cabinet
Is and different than showing pics of our guns,
But that's just my opinion

I will remind you that this is a tech forum, not GD.

What does that mean?  People can be stupid in GD but not here?  Or that's how we're supposed to respond?  Does a tech forum mean we can only post pictures or comments that say "Hey, that's awesome!" without being critical?

I was a grunt.  Let me re-phrase this.

I believe that members who are truly interested in security, rather than positive reinforcement of their behavior via this internet forum will not post pictures of their large and expensive firearms collections, nor will they post numerous pictures of how they are securing their collection, hiding it, where it is in their house, etc.  To do so on a public forum, accessible by all, is in my opinion as a security professional, a very bad idea.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but I think this whole section of ar15.com shouldn't exist, or should only exist for questions.  We have a forum where members are invited to post not only pictures of their firearms collections, but where and how they secure them, on a site that anyone anywhere can view.  Am I really not the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?

In the big picture to many of us, what we post in this forum or don't post in this forum has no impact on our firearms security.

I'll use myself as an example.  I'm one of the firearms training officers at my job, and instruct about 400 new students each year in addition to maybe 40 or 50 new faculty and staff.  I conduct a historical shoot for the Army ROTC department of about 500 cadets, using my own collection for them to learn on and shoot.  Each year that's hundreds of new folks learning that I've got a ton of stuff that I'm willing to bring out and shoot, some of it pretty rare/capable/valuable, and it doesn't take a brainiac to realize it's likely all stored at my home.

And so what?  It's locked up and alarmed and protected by several different means that are NOT covered in this thread or others.  I've talked about an alarm company and their equipment in another thread in another section, sure, but does anyone think that's the only security measure in place?  Hardly.

My firearms aren't a secret- I show, shoot and use them to create hundreds of new shooters each year.  Posting pics of them and their racks on the internet is utterly insignificant compared to the exposure I get elsewhere, and that exposure is a good thing and tradeoff I'm happy to make.

It means don't be a jerk.  Behavior that might be tolerated in GD (like posting LOLcats, irrelevant blather, and poking at other members) isn't tolerated in tech forums.

For instance, calling out other members as a bunch of turds.  If you don't like what's posted here, that's fine... go to another forum.  The posters here are adults, and can exercise their own discretion about what they post.

Who did I call a bunch of turds?

Mod, please block this guy.
I was really enjoying this thread, and getting great ideas for my gun room.
Every time a new post pops-up, I think "great, another great idea."
Lately it's just someone pissing in a place they don't belong.
