Mine finally runs like a champ.  I don't know if you kept up, but what a nightmare.  So over gassed my gas key was smashing the lower receiver.  I had brass marks on my fucking barrel nut.  Finally tamed it, then sharp edges on the barrel extension were causing all kinds of jams and very frequently.  Polished the extension and broke the sharp edges.

2 fucking months of fighting it.

That sucks man! I saw those casings and I remember something about a gas tube roll pin but not much more than that. I was just going through the mini recce thread and saw your groups so it must be running well now. I need to pick up a razor 1-6 (to be more like you) and put it through its paces.

So 1.69" from the muzzle end of the taper on the gas block to the shoulder before the threads?

Do you know the distance from the front face of the gas block?

Bottom was bolt over from over gas.  Top ones are from extension digging into cases

I’m not at home where I have calipers to measure but I would say its another .25” so just shy of 2”. I can measure with calipers when I get home.

Thanks. Looks like it probably is .25" but I'd like someone to check.

@Rothperson87

So it looks like your barrel probably measures 13.050" if you have .625" long threads. So if you would have went with a 13.000" barrel you would have gotten 5.5 turns? I forget if that's acceptable.

That would mean for the AEM5, a carbine length gas system would be an 11.000" barrel, a mid length gas system would be a 13.000" barrel and a rifle length gas system would be a 16.375" barrel. Right? And then .500" shorter for the AEM2-AEM4?

Here’s the measurements from the gas block face to the shoulder. And the OAL of the Spikes GB is 1.25" which leaves the tapered portion to be .25”.

If I’m not mistaken you want between 4-7 rotations. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

It's 6-8 rotations is optimal. Original Mk12's were approximately 4 rotations to meet the "QD" requirement but in reality this was not ideal for alignment.

@HARMS4X @Mattyvac

Do you think that same method would work with an SLR106CR?

I've got this idea to get Ron to make a collar that would thread onto the gas block threads and then chop and pin and weld a muzzle brake at 15.1" or so. This would be for an M4 MBS can, like an AEM2,3,4 not an AEM5.

Yes it would. I would leave the threads and machine the 20 degree taper on the muzzle area. I’ll spin something up and get back with you

Does anyone know of an available 12.5" barrel that has the right steps for the M4 collar?

I'm strongly considering a Sons Of Liberty Gunworks barrel, but looking for options.

The other option would be getting a lighter profile barrel like the ADM Criterion Light weight or Hodge barrel and see if Ron can make me a one piece option.

I just did a ballistic advantage 12.5 and Ron made the collar.  I was going to do a SOLGW barrel, but I'm almost certain they're BA barrels.

Is anyone stocking these barrels or do you have to buy the parts separately and send them out for fitting?

I'm assuming this is normal - it's just odd because it didn't look like this a year or so ago when I last used it.

I put 200 rounds through it (a mix of Magtech CBC and IMI Razorcore - both 77gr OTM) and this was about a year and a half ago. Just haven't had a chance to shoot since then with work and kids. When I brought it home after that range trip, it definitely didn't look anything like this, but I'm guessing having it sit in my safe over time, that eventually fouling from those 200 rounds will start to do this?

I guess I figured it would take more than 200 rounds to get this kind of fouling/corrosion? Or maybe this is totally normal and it's not a big deal. Would moisture accelerate this sort of thing? Maybe I'm not storing it in a good place when not in use?

If it is normal, is it worth cleaning it? It doesn't look like it's anything other than residue build up from spent rounds, but seeing as how I've only used this for a couple hundred rounds, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I would wipe clean with CLP or some Simple Green then CLP to make sure there is no evidence of an end cap strike.
