Since there are a couple of 20" BBLs  with collapsible stocks around here: how much does the balance change with a govt profile barrel (everything else being stock)?

If only I could get an A1 upper, I'd have it done already. Nodak hasn't made anymore, and people want CRAZY cheddah for one.

I have an a1 mag catch, selector, and trigger guard, but haven't gotten around to swapping them out yet.

All 80% builds

A1-ish clone, not 100% correct

A2 clone

Was originally built as an A4 clone but I hate the quad rails, switched to magpul furniture and the a2 fh to a griffin armament m4sd ii

Nice build.  They balance very well in that configuration.

Reminds me of the rifle I built on page 6.

Nice work.

Superior Arms lower with laser etching on the right side of the mag well:

Colt buttstock and handguards Kryloned o d green

MagPul o d MIAD with a modified spare bolt core

Smith Enterprises chrome N/M bolt carrier

Windham Weaponry chrome lined 1:7 Govt barrel

Geissele High Speed DMR trigger

Vortex 3x Splitfire scope

Surplus OKC3 bayonet

This build started out a few years ago as an SPR type with a Yankee Hill light weight quad rail and used a Colt HBAR barrel.  Well I never could get that barrel to group for crap.  About 2" was the best I could get despite getting 1.1"-1.0" groups with my Sporter Match HBAR rifle and a scope mounted in the carry handle.  So I never shot it.

Last spring I decided I needed an AR I could mount my bayonet on, other than my 604 and 603 clones.

Fathers' Day weekend Windham had their 20" Govt barrels on sale so I jumped.  Took the Vortex off my 6920, put the Aimpoint on it, and bam! I now have an accurate rifle with a bayonet lug and is my new favorite AR.  Everyone who's shot it likes it too.

I just wish LaRue made a qd base for this scope.  That would truly be the only change I would make.

It's acreproduction of a colt 656 . Which was a expeamental
Upper colt designed to get into the sniper came in Vietnam .
The lower is basically a standard A1 ... most of the upper had to
Be made to match including the front sight base, rear sight, scope mount
And upper itself.

Thanks . Arenas 656 would probably number 2 or 3 depending on how you
Look at it. But there are technically 4 that I know of... and one
Memember who was lucky enough to get a real one from a retired colt exec.

The first one was from JM502 ( I don't think that's correct,, but close)
Mine started after that... it just took five years on and off to get mine done.
Aenas started after me but finished long before, I kept getting sidetracked, lol
And number four is being made which belongs to braceman .

So the upper receiver and the front sight base are real Colt 656 parts?

I would imagine having an upper and front sight base like that custom made would cost an arm and a leg.

No the upper and front sight base had to be made. Along with the scope mount.
656 parts ..... are extremely rare.... really nonexistent. I've never seen or heard of any for sale.
I have heard from a member here with first hand knowledge , that a few uppers left the factory
Years ago....I've never seen one pop up.

Cost... my set wasn't to bad... but it was way more work than he thought, so I'm sure future
Sets will be more expensive. This model was my holy grail clone. So I was doing it no matter what.
It took a long time just to get someone to do it.. lol.

The problem with this model isn't the parts being made... it's the scope.
Finding the correct scope can take a while,, took me a year

What you said about having to have that upper custom made, it made think of something. I've seen tons of pics of Reed Knight's collection and I don't think he has a 656, at least I didn't see one when looking online pics of his collection.

I think whatever the cost was to put that together was well worth it, its beautiful.

Yes, very much like the SAM-R2, with minor differences in the scope and mount!  I was going for MK12- Mod O.

Thank you sir. Knight has a few... but from the pics I've got maybe two or three.
A few 656 were later modified into competition guns. He has those also.

Yes that's a TA31F
+ 1 Agreed for sure. TA11 is nice. The other thing is that I would like the ability to zoom out to 1X for Offhand at 200. My "wobble area" is less distracting at lower magnification.
