Since there are a couple of 20" BBLs with collapsible stocks around here: how much does the balance change with a govt profile barrel (everything else being stock)?

I've never been interested in a 20" bbl AR, but been getting the itch lately. Think I may put one together and try it out. Keep the pics coming!

But there are technically 4 that I know of... and one Memember who was lucky enough to get a real one from a retired colt exec. The first one was from JM502 ( I don't think that's correct,, but close) Mine started after that... it just took five years on and off to get mine done. Aenas started after me but finished long before, I kept getting sidetracked, lol And number four is being made which belongs to braceman . |

Well I never could get that barrel to group for crap. About 2" was the best I could get despite getting 1.1"-1.0" groups with my Sporter Match HBAR rifle and a scope mounted in the carry handle. So I never shot it. Last spring I decided I needed an AR I could mount my bayonet on, other than my 604 and 603 clones. Fathers' Day weekend Windham had their 20" Govt barrels on sale so I jumped. Took the Vortex off my 6920, put the Aimpoint on it, and bam! I now have an accurate rifle with a bayonet lug and is my new favorite AR. Everyone who's shot it likes it too. I just wish LaRue made a qd base for this scope. That would truly be the only change I would make. View Quote |

No the upper and front sight base had to be made. Along with the scope mount. 656 parts ..... are extremely rare.... really nonexistent. I've never seen or heard of any for sale. I have heard from a member here with first hand knowledge , that a few uppers left the factory Years ago....I've never seen one pop up. Cost... my set wasn't to bad... but it was way more work than he thought, so I'm sure future Sets will be more expensive. This model was my holy grail clone. So I was doing it no matter what. It took a long time just to get someone to do it.. lol. The problem with this model isn't the parts being made... it's the scope. Finding the correct scope can take a while,, took me a year |

I've seen tons of pics of Reed Knight's collection and I don't think he has a 656, at least I didn't see one when looking online pics of his collection. I think whatever the cost was to put that together was well worth it, its beautiful. |

Yes, very much like the SAM-R2, with minor differences in the scope and mount! I was going for MK12- Mod O.

A few 656 were later modified into competition guns. He has those also. But not many |

Eye relief. Shooting off hand it really sucks. Bites me almost every shot.
But I may end up that way. Cp |

TA31? I tried one from the bench and the eye relief was my only complaint. If I were to get one, it'd be the 33 or 11.

The other thing is that I would like the ability to zoom out to 1X for Offhand at 200. My "wobble area" is less distracting at lower magnification. cp |
