Howdy all,

Just registered today. I'm a long time shooter of everything except AR's. Don't own one, but I'm about to change that. Want to learn more before I go off the deep end. This seems like the place to read, learn and ask questions.

Thanks,
Mike

Been lurking on here for a few weeks. Went to a gun show recently that got my gun fever going. I carry a Hi-Point 9 mm C. Been shooting shotguns for years. Love powdering me some clay pigeons.

My brother has some nice guns that he bought (and still not sure why) but he has a nice AR. Still thinking of if I should build my first or buy a cheaper one that's ready to go and upgrade that. But I love this site, all the knowledge on it, and most everyone is friendly and have a willingness to help new people.

Thanks, all.

Hi everyone,
Wanted to introduce myself I'm hkital, I'm from North Carolina. Bought my first black rifle the other day. Been lurking for the past couple weeks leading up to my AR15 purchase, and added this baby to my arsenal last Thursday. Sold an AK47 to fund this purchase, and while I loved the AK, I'm very happy with my AR. Took it to the range the next day shot 80 rounds and everything worked beautifully and made nice tight groups.

Normally (so much so that it's become a long running joke here) people accidentally get their toes in the picture with the rifle. You manged to slip a shoe in instead.

Hey all

Been thinking about building my own ar for a while now, and I think I'm ready to begin.  This will be my first attempt at building a gun and looking forward to the challenge.  So I'll be reading up on this site and asking dumb newbie questions.  I'll post pics of my first incarnation when it's all complete.  And thank you in advance for all your help!

I just realized that I never introduced myself in this forum.

My name is Fred and I have recently been diagnosed as suffering from EBR/BRD. From what I have been able to ascertain on the internet, this is NOT a fatal disease. It does seem to be somewhat of a costly and lengthy treatment program though. As I am rapidly reaching retirement age, I can only hope Medicare might kick in a helping hand (Yea like that is going to happen!). Anyway as they say; "Misery loves company . . . or something like that”, I hope to help and be helped by the fellowship of this forum.

Below are pics of my FIRST AR-15 purchase and build. You can find the threads of their origins that lead to this wonderful disease, somewhere in the forum.

To a long, happy, interesting road to recovery . . .

The "4” is the rack number that was on the M16A1 parts kit stock when I got it.

The "anarchy” is a "MATTEL” sticker that my son stenciled over for his rock band a long time ago. He had a bunch of them left over so I thought why not!

Just registered after lurking for probably 2 months and purchasing my first AR right before that. I better put my flamesuit on because I picked up a Bushmaster Carbon 15. Also plan on building a much better quality rifle over the next few months. I just snagged one of the Noveske lowers that Joe Bob has in stock.

Yeah, I probably should have done that even though I wasn't fully set on buying one walking in.

I'm hoping not to strap too much crap to the new one. I wanna hopefully keep it clean and simple.

Hey Guys,

New to the site and really pretty new to the AR platform. I have been reading threads for a while, but decided to get involved and leverage some of your experience.

I bought a PSA M4 a year back and ran 2-3000 rounds through it and got hooked. Today I decided to get the ball rolling on a Noveske SBR build. so I started with setting up the Trust with 199trust.com, these guys are great. 6 hours later I had my trust and am ready to apply for my NFA/ATF SBR stamp.

I am working with the fine folks at Atomic Tactical in MN for the build and ordered my Noveske n4 upper and lower receiver today. Does anybody have anything good or bad to say about the Ident marking or Orion marking companies? I know Ident has a 3 month wait/backlog on orders right now and wanted to know if they are worth waiting for to get my receiver marked by them vs another company. I guess I will be waiting for the stamp to come anyway so a wait might not be a big deal.

Next comes the LPK and trigger. I am trying to do a quality build here. Is the LPK  a big deal? should I go with something like DD or cheap with PSA? how about the trigger, would the trigger that comes with a standard LPK be worth using or should I be looking at higher end triggers?

Those are my big decisions for now... hope to get some guidance on my first build!

Hello, im new to the site and the ar platform all together. I was looking to buy one.....but, building an ar would suit my style and needs better.
I am more into practical than tactical real world shtf kinda build. Not bulky or gaulky. Iron sights and or red dot, durable, functional, reliable parts.
Would like some idea for parts, i want to build from stripped upper and lower iv looked and like the vltor mur w/f-assest im thinking goining local with a predetor lower and mabey a bcm, bcg....up in the air on the rest ( trigger, barrel, gas block, sights, furniture)????

Hello, my name spike and I'm a newb when it comes to AR15's.  I recently (as of this afternoon) purchased a PSA lower and am in the process of trying to absorb as much information as I can about AR's and how to build/maintain them.  I'm hoping that this forum will help me with my goal.  So...yeah....that's me.

Hello All! Fairly new to the site, took me a little while to find this Intro thread. Also new to AR's. Been around guns all my life, but I definately dont know it all. I am in the process of building my first. I am a mechanic by trade so I am mechanically inclined and like working with my hands so I figured this build would a lot of fun and a learning experience. The hardest part is selecting parts, there is SO MANY to choose from. So Far I have an Aero Precision Stripped Upper and Lower, RRA LPK/w 2 Stage Trigger, PSA Adjustale Stock (Kit), PSA Premium Full Auto BCG. Am looking at barrels now, have few different ones in mind but havent decided on one yet. I was going to post some pics of what I have so far, but I dont have a photobucket or anything like that so maybe another day. Looking forward to learning alot here on the forum.

Hows everyone doing...? My name is Alex and im originally from Las Vegas but currently live in San Antonio, TX stationed at Randolph AFB. I just recently bought my first AR15 and just shot it for the first time this past weekend. Had a blast, brought the wife with and had her shoot it as well.
Mainly joined to gain knowledge about the platform before I make mistakes purchasing stuff for it. The first mistake I already made was buying an AR without the forward assist and the dustcover. But for my first AR it will do. I want to build my next when I get some more money saved up.
Looking forward to interacting with everyone.

Nice to meet you and welcome! Actually, I am also new here (as a member). I have used this site to build my first AR and cannot thank this site enough for the vast amount of useful resources it provides for first time builders. My name is Tim and I'm from Indiana. Here's my first build. Hard to compare to most ARs on here, but I think it came out OK considering it was <650$.

I am still waiting on the flash hider btw.

Green mountain barrel, 20" 1-8, 5.56
Model 1 Rifle length tube
Blackhawk grip+psa Lower parts

Just joined the site. Two reasons.

1. Living outside of the US for the time being in a country where gun laws are draconian. Basically can't have them. My handguns and shotgun are locked up safe and sound back in the US at a family member's house. When I move back I plan on picking up an AR. Yes, I know it won't be the last one. However I do want to make an informed purchase, hence joining the site to learn, ask questions, dig around. And look at all the cool pictures.

2. I am a budding writer of thriller/suspense novels. Hitmen, government agents, police, gangsters, drug dealers and the like. In fact, one of the plot points in an upcoming release turns on AR15/M4 information. As my knowledge of ARs is minimal and am including them in my writings, I wanted to get some of the technical things correct. Tom Clancy I'll never be, but I don't want to make an ass out of myself by screwing up simple stuff. Sure, wikipedia can answer some questions. But I want to get things right. So, I came here.

Here's to AR15.com and my fat melon head actually using some of that gray matter gathering cobwebs upstairs.

Hi,
I'm Russ from the DFW area.
I'm primarily a 1911 guy and decided to try my hand at the AR platform. because of this, AR15.com seems to be the best place to get questions answered by those who "have been there".
I'm currently waiting for a matched upper and 80% lower to be delivered and have started picking out the associated parts, The upper and lower are Anderson's. I plan on going with a Daniel Defense LPK
will probably start with a standard 5.56 16" upper, with a 1:7 twist barrel (maybe a 1:9 depending on the boolit weights). I still have no idea as to what BCG to go with. This will be a budget build with more spent on the critical parts.
because of this and my blatent noob ignorance, I plan on asking lots of really stupid questions. I'd rather ask the questions than risk injury to myself or others because I didn't ask.
Last time I touched the M-16/AR15 platform was in the mid 80's. I think because of this, I escaped the Tacticool/mall ninja trend. I do understand the need for build logs and naturally; gun porn.
Glad to be here

Be sure and say hi over in the Texas Hometown Forum. We have a pretty good group of guys in the DFW crew and if you need any local help with your build somebody almost always will be able to.

Afternoon people!  I'm new to this forum but lurked for a long ass time.  Every time I googled info this was one of the first sites to pop up.  Sometimes with good knowledge, other times with junk-swinging contests haha, Nevertheless I decided to join just to cut Google out of my search for everything AR related and go right to the source.  Been around firearms for 10 years.  Got into ARs because some guy on another forum was selling his builds dirt cheap. Like 600 bucks.  I took it apart, upgraded some components, sold it for 1100 and was hooked with building them.  I put a case thru her and was kinda impressed with myself.  Figured hell all I need is the receivers, I can do the rest.  Currently I'm without a black rifle but now that I've found a lower, that should change soon.  Happy shooting!

Hello all!

My name's Kyle (as if you couldn't tell haha), and I'm also from Virginia. I've been lurking on here for a few months, and finally decided to join!

I don't currently own an AR, but I shot my friend's rifle at the range last year, and it's taken a while, but I think I've finally "caught" the BRD . I'm currently saving up the money to buy a friend's (different guy than above) Smith and Wesson M&P 15 mid-length Magpul edition (here's hoping no one snags it before I get the $$. I'm about 1/3 of the way there).

Eventually, I would love to do an AR "pistol" build (pistol in quotes because I'm going to be using the Sig SB-15 "brace" lol ) but that will have to wait for the time being.

Hello, Brent from South-Eastern Wyoming.

Been into and around guns for my whole life, but stayed away from AR's because of the perceived fanboyism.

My boys and I enjoy playing legos and AR's are the legos of the gun world.  So my oldest son (6) and I started looking at getting an AR for coyote hunting.  We had been looking at Palmetto guns and kits.

My birthday was a few weeks ago and my wife and boys surprised me with this gun.

PSA 16" Stainless Mid-length Freedom
Primary Arms 6X ACSS scope
AR-15 Armorers Tools and Punch Set
10" free float quad rail to be installed

We now have a upper assembly, stripped lower and LPK coming for my oldest son, which will be here next week.  Vamint hunting is going to be a lot more fun now.

Looking forward to building an AR for my other two boys when they get to that age.

Fanboyism here I come!

P.S. I have an amazing wife!

Have you been out to shoot the rifle yet?  I had a buddy local that got the ACSS and seemed to like it quiet a bit I would suggest lock tite for the mount as they simply do not hold up well and it is no fun to get out to where you are hunting and have a great shot miss just to find out the rings got loose.  Nice stick glad you are getting your boy into it too that is great.  The fan boy nonsense starts when you strap too much junk onto the rifle or have more money in the extras than you do in ammo through the gun.

They can ask, but they will be disappointed. :D

I have not shot it yet.  I plan to sight it in this weekend, once I get some more ammo.  I have a better set of rings, that I may use with this scope instead of the PA mount.

My oldest is definitely into shooting and hunting.  He has a little 10/22 with an archangel kit and he can shoot 2" groups at 100 yards all day long.  Definitely better than I was at 6.  My 4 year old is showing a lot of interest and my 2 month old, well he will get there.

I am putting the quad rail on so I can easily mount a bipod, but I am rethinking that with how front heavy the gun already is with the stainless barrel.  Once I get the guts, I will paint it camo. :D

OK, since you say so.

Finally bought my first AR platform (M&P 15 Sport), lurked for quite a while and decided to sign up.

Forty-something, Disabled Vet, land-bound squid and former big truck driver (amongst other trades - military and driving did me in). Active duty USN from 04 APR 88 to 23 SEP 93. Fire Controlman 2nd Class (E-5).

Fast Forward several years, working as a big truck petroleum driver for Pilot Travel Centers. Doing some stretching late one night, before my next shift and I suffered a catastrophic Type A/B (ascending/descending) aortic dissection, 3 aortic aneurysms and 2 major strokes (yes, all at the same time). Same thing that killed John Ritter, for those scratching their heads.

I awoke 4 or 5 days later, with a zipper in my chest, wondering what on Earth happened to me? Been classified 100% disabled (though I look the best I have in years after losing 80 pnds) and terminal with a supposed 2 - 10 year life span, I'm just over 5 years into. I'm holding out, until they can grow me a new aorta and replace it.

In the meantime, I'm going to do all the crap I wanted to do. Including my right own and shoot guns... often!

Sale at the LGS one weekend and my wife, was the final push towards purchasing an AR. Did a lot of homework on them, before buying and being an old school guy, that likes and was trained on the M14 platform and Mini-14 owner... I appreciated the K.I.S.S. aspect of the Sport. The reviews, tests and feedback helped a lot to.

Somewhat current build. I've already replaced the VFG with a Tapco Intrafuse, that's being replaced with the Magpul MOE (and the rail coming off). Also replacing the Vortex Strikefire with a Primary Arms 4x Prism ACSS. I don't want to do a lot to it and hoping this optic is the last of the upgrades. I need to look into investing money towards reloading, not more guns and toys. NOTE: Fully CA Compliant and legal firearm, stock, w/ pinned 10-rnd magazines. No illegal modifications.
