Here is mine!  I did a short review and range report over in the Colt Forum a few weeks back.  The latest pics show the Aimpoint H-1 with Larue Tactical mount.  Other than that, a good sling, KAC VFG, and a Streamlight TLR-1 round out this light, simple fighting package.  For those of you that have not shot one, don't do it!  If you do, your bank account and/or credit cards will be screaming as you run out to get one.  These rifles are shooters!  I absolutely love this rifle.  BTW, the prices are coming down significantly right now.  If you can find one for under $1600.00, jump on it!  My trusty 6920 has now been demoted to back-up duty and wild hog interdiction!!

News Flash:  Right after I posted these pics, I lost the 6940 AND the 6920 in a tragic boating accident.  Well at least I still have the memories and the pics!

Colt LE6940 with factory ladder rail covers, KAC VFG, Aimpoint H-1, and Streamlight TLR-1

Ohh Nooo!  My brass deflector looks dirty!  Please someone tell me how to stop this from happening...maybe I should just look at it and not shoot it!!

Could not resist:  The trusty 6920 (KAC RAS, Troy Rear BUIS)

Sincere condolences.  I hope the accident didn't entail other injury or loss.

I think I'd be having at least a memorial service for the Colts    even as I entered orders for their replacements.

1) is the handguard wider/fatter than Daniel Defence's?

2) is there any play to the lower detachable rail when you use a VFG?

3) where to get that 6940 pin!?!?!?!? i want.....

Thanks!!

Just picked up mine today.  Only got a brief look, but it's nice.  There's a little bit of play between the lower & upper which I wasn't too thrilled about, but guess a wedge will be added to it.  I have to compare it to my Noveske VIS  and my LMT MRP CQB when I get home.  Definitely needs a buttstock upgrade.

When I went to pick up my LMT CQB gas piston rifle today they gave me their Memorial day price of $1695 at the gun shop on a 6940 so it came home with me also.  I've seen them go for a little less on G.B, but also much more, so I'm not complaining.  They even gave me a deal on PMC 223 for $389, my bank account is considerably lighter now.  Initial impression of the 6940 is that it's a lot of Colt for the money.  With monolithic rails, BUIS (not the greatest but not the worst I've seen), better pins, and trigger pull that is better than came on my 6920 (lighter and no mushy take up), all for not much more than 6920 prices.  Actually at gun shows in Atlanta you can't touch a 6920 for less than $1900, so I'm very pleased.

I just got my LE6940 out today for the first time too. I sold my LE6920 to fund the upgrade. I really like this new rifle and the new upper. I only put about 100 rounds through it to sight in my AGOG (TA31RCOM4) It just took a couple clicks to the right and was making all shots through the same hole at the range. (25 yds) I'm anxious to get a chance to get it outdoors and can reach  out to 100-200 yds to see what it can really do. I didn't mess with the iron sights just yet. I'll zero those in when I get to shoot at the 100 yd. mark. I shot some Q3131A through it and it functioned absolutely perfect. I got it for $1600 delivered, and think I got a pretty good deal overall.

Thanks, but I get told that everyday, just about.

I opened the end of the outside shipping box to view the latest serial numbers.  The inner Colt box was so tight I couldnt slide it out.  I'll just leave the box in box as is for now.  I know what its like to shoot an AR, no need to dirty another BCG.

That's impressive, my 6920 I just received three weeks ago is 61,1xx and the seller said they were factory fresh.

Are you telling me you bought a second 6940? I'm upgrading you from asshole to douchebag.

I just got mine about a month ago through an LE distributor. It was soaked when I removed it and real nice. I'm going to put a vertical grip on it and was wondering if anyone had any input on the Tango Down QD. I have worked a lot of overtime and spent the money on a single point from Tactical Link but haven't found any reviews on it if anyone has any let me know. Thanks. Nice pics Sabre I will place some soon.

Tango down makes great stuff and I have heard the QD is as nice as anything else.

However I personally prefer the feel of the Daniel Defense VFG.  It was a pain to get installed (I had to use a rubber mallet) but it is rock solid.

I was at a local gun shop north of Columbus OH and saw the 6940 for the first time.  I looked at the price tag and it said $1,500.  I was thinking that it was pretty cool since I just spent $1,300 on a 6920 two days ago.  I would not give up my 6920, but now I want the 6940

The shop is a small store that is owned by a retired police officer, really nice guy.  If anyone is interested, send me a message and I will forward you his information.  I won't be buying it since I am building a rifle around a Noveske 16inch barrel right now.

A tour of Nam!

J/K, Sportsmanguide has them from time to time.  When I got them they were $12.95.  Makes the best bench cover or a mat to take out for laying on to hunt.

Found it, but out of stock.

Is this the model that's supposed to have mil spec pins now? I seem to remember reading somewhere that Colt was finally comeing out with a model that has mil spec pins. To bad they didn't do this about 15 years ago. I would have only buying Colts if that were the case.

Are you talking about the small pins for the hammer and trigger?  If so, then yes they use the small pins.

To any LE6940 owners,

When you zeroed your rifle using the BUIS at 25 meters (assuming?) did you set the Matech rear sight at 300 or the line underneath 300 (between 300 and 400). I am some what confussed about this as the LE6490 operators manual, page 39, #5 states that the rear sight should be set at the LINE ON THE 300-METER "MARK". There isn't a line on the 300 meter mark but there is under it which would be between the 300 and 400? Can't find anything from the manufacture (Matech) either. The guy at the  store says to put it on the LINE between 300 and 400, zero at 25 meters and move it back to 300, the rifle is then zeroed for 300m? This is a 16 inch barrel not 20? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

RYO,

I was under the impression from an article I read that the hammer and trigger pins as well as the take down pins were going to be mil-spec diameter. I can't remember the model # though.

This is correct, takedown pins have been standard for some time now and .154" pins have been changed across the board.

That's what I heard too.. all pins for the trigger/hammer is small diameter pins for all Colt current products, but it's only hearsay from me..  Definitely for the 6940 it's small pins.

I have a few dumb questions.

I guess they want you to get a rail mounted sling mount? I noticed it lacks one.

How hard is it to fold the front sight?  It can accept A2 front sight posts?

Has anyone seen a 6940 with the .170 pins?

It comes with a side sling adapter that atached to the home in the front of the rail.  Mine is unusable because of the X300 LIGHT I use.

The front sight it smooth but snap into place solidly.  I am not a big fan of folding sights but this one seems solid.

Has anyone seen a 6940 with the .170 pins?

No such thing.
