Some details about the shoot: When: Saturday Where: Ft Dix Range 14 (see directions below) What: Fun, Guns, Food and Friends! Directions to the range from the Turnpike. If you need directions from somewhere else, post here and someone will definitely provide.
I know they are long but, I was very descriptive with them. The whole trip is really very simple. •Take NJ Turnpike to Exit 7 •After paying toll, take Rt. 206 South •After a short distance, make a LEFT onto Rt. 68. This is a very well marked intersection with signs for Fort Dix. Also, you can only turn left or go straight at this light, there is no right turn. Rt. 68 is larger highway divided in the middle by a grass median. •After several miles, you will turn LEFT onto Rt. 537/Monmouth Rd. If you go too far, you will run into the entrance to Ft Dix and the MPs will tell you so. Just turn around and go back a couple of roads. •After a couple of miles, you will come to an intersection with a WAWA on the far left corner, a diner on the far right corner, a motel on the near left and a gas station on the near right. The WAWA is a good landmark and the last/best place to stop for supplies before getting to the range… Continue straight through the light and on 537. •A couple of miles past the WAWA you will go through a traffic light. Soon after that you will pass a farm market on your left (with the farm on both sides of the road) and then come to a flashing yellow light. Turn RIGHT at the flashing light onto Jacobstown Cookstown Rd. Note – one of the signs on the corner only says Jacobstown Rd but, that’s the one you want. Just look for the flashing yellow light; that is the best landmark. •Follow this road to the end, it is a couple of miles. When you get to the end/stop sign, turn RIGHT onto the little main street of Cookstown. I do not believe there are any street signs here. •Once you go through town you will pass a farm field and then cross over onto the military reservation. (Ft Dix) There is one little white sign that you might miss but, as soon as the field ends and the woods begin, you are on base. Continue straight, this is now Range Rd. You will pass some Bivouac sites on the right and a range or two on the left and the ‘urban’ range on the right. Look for ‘Messina Range’ on your left and the urban/MOUT looking range on your right (they are directly across from each other). These are good landmarks and Range 14 is the next left up the road. You will see a small brown sign on the left that says ‘Ft Dix Rod & Gun Club – Range 14’. Turn LEFT here. •Go down the short road and cross the tank trail and go through the gate. (you will see the red ‘range hot’ flag flying) Go straight down the long ‘driveway’. You will pass the skeet/trap range on your left, the small archery courses on your right and will eventually come to the rifle range. (You have to turn left) •We generally have two or three tables all the way down on the right side of the firing line. (These would be the first two you will see when you pull in) Look for a BRIGHT YELLOW F-150 parked on the line. You can pull right up to the line to unload. |

(I went with 6/4 instead of 6/11 to avoid the Mohawk shoot weekend...)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Now I have to Choose. Between this NJ Blast and WWII Weekend Reading Airport. I have been going to the above every year since 1996. To top it off I was going to go to the Air Show at McGuire AFB on Sunday the 5th. public.mcguire.amc.af.mil/airshow/ Oh boy this is going to take some serious thought. |
I'll be at the blast & buckeye for at least part of the time.
Gotta get things ready for the Blue Angles at McGuire the next day! First local airshow since Sept 11, I think. Matt, I think the blast & airshow > WWII weekend...YMMV I'm hoping the roads are not swamped before and after the airshow; Ft Dix is close to McGuire... |
Sorry guys, won't be able to make this one. Maybe next time. I'll probably be working at the air show on sunday tho.
If you camp, you'll be that much closer to Maguire the next morning...
Maybe, but I'll have to get a shower, shave, and put my flight suit on. Not sure if the camp grounds have showers or not. Plus I'll have to bring my guns home since I can't take them on base.
You're bringing Attila? |
Nope, My shrink has him locked up in my head somewhere |
I cant wait till the next blast I'm 2 for 2 for winning door prizes so I cant wait to see whats available next.
look forward to seeing everyone again.....except for M1Matt, he draws too big of a crowd |

Guys,
There are 2 showers at the club that people are more than welcome to use, 2 toilets, and 2 basins also so you will not be ruffing it that much! Buckeye is honored to be used again for this event and all the facilities are open for use by the AR15 crew. Only the AR15 crew will be using the place as it is reserved for them on the 4th of June into the 5th. Thank you for supporting the club. The guys that came out the last time had a great time. Just remember to bring your bug spray and tent poles unlike SOMEONE who will remain nameless (unless someone wants to name him!). There is a grill at the club also for camping use you just have to bring the charcoal, food, and stuff. Any questions about the place fire away! RW3 |
Heh, we won't be having a fire quite as big as the last one this time... Fire danger in June is a bit higher than a rainy November day!
We could at least have some flare ups with small bags of Doritos. Also by having a large fire kept red eye away. |
If we tank up at Harrison's and hold it till we arrive at camp, we can water down the area to prevent unintentional fires
Does anyone have a SIG P220 that they could bring to the shoot? I'm thinking about picking one up but I wanna test drive one first. I'd appreciate it much. |
Can't help w/ the Sig but I can bring a sampling of 1911s. |
You gotta love when someone says "a sampling" of 1911's Thanks edit for spelling |
I will attempt to make it (at least for the shoot), I will also attempt to have my first "AR-style" rifle completed by then to give it some test firing.

like i said after the last shoot i don't have a ar yet(saving for it) but would still like to come. I said something about muzzleloaders the last time and found out a few of you people still haven't shot them but would like to. Could bring 3 of them plus i have a .357, .380, 30-06, 30-30 i would like to bring. Would it be ok if me and a couple friends joined you for the day?
Absolutely it would be! I really hope you come on out, it will be great time.
I'm a maybe. I like shooting at Ft. Dix R&G because IIRC it's about a 250 yard range... better than 100m any day. Plus they aren't too too strict about shooting up "other-than-paper" targets.
I'll probably have to hit a gun show and buy some more 20 rounders though... I only have 2 and IIRC it's a no-30-rounder state. I might have lived there for 18 years but I didn't start learning all the crazy ules for guns until I was long gone. |
Careful, pathfinder!
NJ is 15 rounds per mag, not 20 as you stated. I'm sure others will back this up, but I'm just looking out for you. Don't want to see anybody jailed as a felon for those 5 extra rounds... BoBo' |
It is 15! Good ol NJ |
So who sells 15 rounders? Do the farmers sell them at the tomato stands?
I was looking through the photo gallery and it didn't look like everyone was toting 10-rounders. |
Some guys were probably using BLOCKED mags. But now the general consensus is that those are NOT OK. |
pathfinder, if you want to come just come "magless" and we'll hook you up for the day!
Is the range reserved just for arfcommers and if so, does is the rangemeister the type who's running around checking for this sort of thing?
Or is it best not to even chance it for the good of the group? I've shot there several times in the past and had no idear that high-caps were a no no... and nobody said anything... I'll probably need to sponge off someone... I'm definitely not spending money to buy 10 rounders... This is exhausting... |
I've never been to the Ft. Dix range, is it rifle only or are there pistol lanes?
I've got an old Savage pump-action 22 with a peep-hole sight that I inherited, and hopefully I'll have my 1911 by then :) |
Its definitely best not to risk trying to enter the state with the verbotten...
The range is not exclusively reserved for us, we usually consume about a third of it though! The range rules are very easy to deal with. Be safe but there is no one shot per 5 second rule or anything silly like that. Also, you can shoot anything you want there. We shoot on what is considered the "rifle range" but I think its really a general purpose ~220 yard range. Rifles, shotguns, pistols, things in-between are all cool on the range. They also have a 25 yard dedicated outdoor pistol range and ~15 station skeet/trap range. |
Im definitely going to be there. Im new to NJ and havent seen much gun culture here, so Im anxious to meet the local ARFCOM crew. Can't wait to try my new build also. Haven't been to a range in 4 months so I am gettting pumped.
