What's that sound?
That's the sound of oppressed gun nuts getting a little RELEASE! Here we go again, folks! Not only is this the 11th NJ BLAST shoot, it is the second extreme cold weather training exercise! I can't wait to see everyone again, its been a while for some! As always, I want to encourage any and all new comers to go ahead and come out! I have not yet met a person who came and regretted it. We are all quite tame and lovable people! As usual, plan is to shoot as long as anyone wants. Followed up by a late lunch at Mastori's for any who wish to join. (a.k.a. the land of the 12 pound burgers!) And, also as always, we will have a door prize drawing for anyone who shows up to shoot! We will also do a 50/50 to go toward the next shoot's door prizes, for anyone who wishes to participate. The details: When: Saturday 2/26, 9:00 am until whenever Where: Ft Dix Range 14 What: Fun, Guns and Friends! Cost: $3/hour for shooting I will post directions below. Here are links to a few threads and pics from previous shoots: Thread from BLAST X Thread from BLAST IX Thread from BLAST VIII A few BLST VIII pics BLAST VII Pics BLAST VI Pics (SNOWBALL SHOOT!) |

Directions to the range from the Turnpike. If you need directions from somewhere else, post here and someone will definitely provide.
I know they are long but, I was very descriptive with them. The whole trip is really very simple. •Take NJ Turnpike to Exit 7 •After paying toll, take Rt. 206 South •After a short distance, make a LEFT onto Rt. 68. This is a very well marked intersection with signs for Fort Dix. Also, you can only turn left or go straight at this light, there is no right turn. Rt. 68 is larger highway divided in the middle by a grass median. •After several miles, you will turn LEFT onto Rt. 537/Monmouth Rd. If you go too far, you will run into the entrance to Ft Dix and the MPs will tell you so. Just turn around and go back a couple of roads. •After a couple of miles, you will come to an intersection with a WAWA on the far left corner, a diner on the far right corner, a motel on the near left and a gas station on the near right. The WAWA is a good landmark and the last/best place to stop for supplies before getting to the range… Continue straight through the light and on 537. •A couple of miles past the WAWA you will go through a traffic light. Soon after that you will pass a farm market on your left (with the farm on both sides of the road) and then come to a flashing yellow light. Turn RIGHT at the flashing light onto Jacobstown Cookstown Rd. Note – one of the signs on the corner only says Jacobstown Rd but, that’s the one you want. Just look for the flashing yellow light; that is the best landmark. •Follow this road to the end, it is a couple of miles. When you get to the end/stop sign, turn RIGHT onto the little main street of Cookstown. I do not believe there are any street signs here. •Once you go through town you will pass a farm field and then cross over onto the military reservation. (Ft Dix) There is one little white sign that you might miss but, as soon as the field ends and the woods begin, you are on base. Continue straight, this is now Range Rd. You will pass some Bivouac sites on the right and a range or two on the left and the ‘urban’ range on the right. Look for ‘Messina Range’ on your left and the urban/MOUT looking range on your right (they are directly across from each other). These are good landmarks and Range 14 is the next left up the road. You will see a small brown sign on the left that says ‘Ft Dix Rod & Gun Club – Range 14’. Turn LEFT here. •Go down the short road and cross the tank trail and go through the gate. (you will see the red ‘range hot’ flag flying) Go straight down the long ‘driveway’. You will pass the skeet/trap range on your left, the small archery courses on your right and will eventually come to the rifle range. (You have to turn left) •We generally have two or three tables all the way down on the right side of the firing line. (These would be the first two you will see when you pull in) Look for a BRIGHT YELLOW F-150 parked on the line. You can pull right up to the line to unload. |

Hey NJ-SLEO685, what kind of upper are you planning on building? I've got some Bushmaster parts that you might be able to use. |

I'm thinking of doing this one fellas. How many members do you expect, and whats the closest and farthest target stations available for us ? I'd like to work on some close work with my carbine ,and maybe out to the 200 meter line. Are we also going to need to bring our own target stands? I have some that I use over at Cherry Ridge R&P if so. Thanks -- J223.
25 yds out to 200. You can bring your own stands or buy them at the range. |
The cherry ridge stand might be a PITA to in the sandy soil. It's a bit heavy & you would have to dig two holes. They sell cardboard targets on a single post for $3, I think. The berm is about 220 yards away, you can put targets anywhere. You're not limited to paper, you can plink at safe targets. You don't have to count between shots. In short, it's a lot more fun to shoot at dix than cherry ridge!!! |
IMHO: if you are just ZERO-ING and not looking at "tight" groups you'll find the atmosphere fine for pretty much anything. Personally I feel precision shooting here IN the COLD is higjhly unlikely. The guys were shooting 12" square plates @ 220 yrds fairly often = ~6MOA. |
I have been using my target holders from cherry ridge down here without any problem. The only thing that may be a problem is if the ground will be frozen when we shoot. Just bring you own post hole digger that way you do not have to fight over the 3 that they have there. Zbrane Since when did you have to count between shots up there? I have been a member up there since 1996 and never heard of that rule. Only thing they do not allow is RECKLESS rapid fire. I have been there and shot rapid fire with out any problems. I have practiced the rapid fire stage of high powered NRA course and it would take me 2-3 seconds to align my sights between shots. Now if I shooting my BAR up there as fast as I do at Ft Dix then they would have a problem with that. Matt |

Hey Matt --- I got flagged once and yelled at twice for double taps. As in bang bang -- bang bang -- and they took my card and wrote me up. That really made me wonder. At the time, I was at the 50 yard position with my AR , all my hits were right on, and he said I was shooting too fast. WTF -- I can go over to the pistol range and do an ammo dump and have no problem. This is why I wonder about going to CJRP....
I really hope to make this and meet you all. Its tough to find like minded people in this politically correct state. It makes me sick when just the mention of shooting sports in a corporate setting gets you looks that make you feel like a subversive. At least the next 4 years should be ok for gun owners.... (I hope) ... J223 |

Had a blast (no pun intended) at the last event. I'll do my best to make this one too.

If this were a camping BLAST, all this talk of naked male bonding would be SCARING THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF ME!
