I'm in Lees Summit, a suburb of Kansas City.

I believe that there were at least 2 organized shoots over the last year in Columbia w/AR15.com members.  I personally have not been to any yet but they always talked highly of them (full auto was allowed,a variety of targets, BBQ, etc).  Hopefully when it gets warm, they will continue.

There have been a few shoots organized here, drawing many members AR15.com. As well as from other boards, and people from many surrounding states. All went smoothly, and were great fun.

Lots of lead down range, as well as tons of fun afterwards.

Columbia is nice as it's a pretty central point. As well as having not only a big free public range but also many members around here so as to add a nice place to hang after the shoot. Plus plenty of hotels, campsites, couches, and floors to sleep on.

It's great to see so many Missouri members here. We will defintely put together another shoot when the weather gets better (April?).

Where I am from is Mountain Grove.  Where I live is St. Paul, about 5 miles north of I-70 and O'Fallon.

I've been to two of the shoots in Columbia, and I'm pretty much ready for another.

I would probably be interested in shooting around Springfield sometime.

Anyone that would like me to show them around the Benchrest club sometime, let me know.  I try to get out once a week, but don't make it that much this time of year, and I am over due.

Hey Shamus,

How about you, me and Batman try to schedule something for a weekend in April?

I'd be willing to work up some sort of BBQ or possibly special shooting events...

email me at [email protected] or just drop me a note here and we can get together...

I'd try to get a door prize or two donated to the cause...

It would be cool to meet black rifle shooters from Missouri.

Have any of you Mo shooters been to any of the out-of-state shoots discussed here on AR15.com?

I haven't yet, but I sure am tempted...

Hey AeroE, am I correct in guessing you are a member at BR? I am too. Perhaps we have even met out there before, I try to get out every weekend, every other weekend at the worst.
I usually have some sort of milsurps along with the AR. Hope to see you out there sometimes.

BTW, I am going to the Wentzville (Formerly Beltz Outlet Mall) funshow tomorrow hoping to check on a CETME, with luck I will be trying it out at BR that afternoon.

Billings?
I haven't heard of that town. Benchrest is about 8 miles or so north of Hwy 70 on Hoehn Rd( Hoehn is the custom gunmaker right nest to the range). To get there you have to turn off the hwy service road onto Bell road turning right next to the now closed Reliance auto parts store.  Big range, over 100 shooting lanes some going out to 600yds. Does this help?
Anyway, a quick shower and I am off to the show. I think I will take one of my K31s and see what I can get for it.
Have a good day y'all...

Billings is SW of Springfield. The range I'm referring to (I think it's called Springfield Benchrest Shooting Club) is off Hwy 60 just outside of that town. We are obviously referring to completely different parts of the state. I was thrown off by the fact that Springfield was mentioned in the sentence before AeroE mentioned your range). Our range only has points out to 300 ft - but we do have some nice pistol set-ups: barricades, falling plates, etc. plus clay target throwers. I spent many a long day there "back in the day."

MissouriBob-

Do I like Benchrest - yes.  We have the best rifle shooting facility in the Midwest, and probably in the top 5 or so in the US.

Benchrest has a two tier membership - simple annual membership, and a vested membership which means you essentially own a share of the club; if the club is ever sold, the proceeds go to the vested members.  The life membership requires 5 years of annual membership first.

A comment about the heavy match schedule - although we have matches almost every weekend, only the range with the match is closed for regular shooting.  Starting last year, we have theoretically allowed other shooters to use the 200 yard targets during silhouette matches, subject to the pace of the match.  I don't know if anyone has ever used this option, but it will work okay if you post a boat load of targets when you start shooting for the day.

Thanks.  So the way it works is I pay $150/yr for the first 5 years and then I have the option to vest (buy a share)?  Sounds like a good deal.  I will have to get out there when the weather improves.

I'm in Ofallon MO. that's in St. Charles county.
I have mostly been going to Busch to shoot, but
Benchrest sounds pretty decent. I would like to
try the reduced range Hipower matches at Busch to see what it's like.

Has anyone been to those matches at Busch ?
How much does it cost and do they get a good turnout ?

Link Posted: 1/7/2003 8:01:14 PM EDT
[#39]
MissouriBob -
You can pay $150 forever without ever becoming a vested member at Benchrest, or you can be vested immediately upon joining the first time.  The five year provision is for shooters that want to be life members - at that point you can pay a one time fee for the life membership.

JMR -

Looks like we are neighbors.

I shoot in the reduced course matches at Busch.  These matches are organized by the Boeing Rifle & Pistol Club.  I don't think the schedule is out yet, but it will be soon.  The match fee was $18 for non club members, and participation varies from 6 or so to 19 which is all the range can handle since we shoot one relay at this range (start early in the morning and finish before the range opens to the public).

You can also shoot in the matches at Benchrest without being a member - the match fee was $32 last year; in fact, club members pay the same as visitors at these matches.

The 2003 match schedule has been set at
Benchrest - the highpower clinic will be on 5 April, report to the clubhouse at the 60 bench range.  Bring a rifle, at least 50 rounds of ammunition, a spotting scope if you have it, and some sort of pad (shooting mat, piece of carpet, exercise mat, etc.) to sit or lie on during the practice match.  Bring more ammo if you need to sight your rifle in, but it works much better if you show up with at least a 100 yard zero - we can get you on the paper at 200 yards with no problem.  Highpower is shot in all weather - a match might be cancelled if the targets are blowing away, but I wouldn't bet on it.

AeroE/JMR -

We are all neighbors.  I live near Gutermuth and O'Fallon Road.  I shoot out a Busch's as well, but I have never done competitive shooting.  Might be fun.  I'm planning on joining Benchrest.  It's a longer drive, but the facilities sound awesome.

Hi thebeekeeper1!

Hope you had as much fun as I did this deer season. We managed to get four deer off my place.  The way you had'em runnin' around I bet you did pretty good too.  We'll have to get to get togther one of these days again.  I'd like to check out your progress on the log cabin.

Me- Born and raised in Poplar Bluff, educated in Rolla, went to big the big city to work, live near Creve Coeur lake and spend a lot of time up North (Macon Co.)on my hobby farm.  And now spending way too much time in China setting up a manufacturing plant.

FormerLEO - You got that right it gets damn hot up there in the summer!

PS- I just read about that poor SOB from Elsberry that got sent up for importing FA stuff from Bulgaria.  I bought an AR-15 lower from him (Wife) a couple years ago.  He had pretty cool place, an M60 machine gun in the living room too!

Just a random thought. How about a AR15/whoever else is interested gathering at Benchrest sometime this spring? A good opportunity for those interested in checking it out and also a nice outing for those doomed to shoot at Busch for eternity ;)
I know there are enough members here to get the go ahead from Scott and naybe if it is called a tournament or something we can even get the range reserved.

There is no reason we couldn't have an informal match of some sort at BR, but closing  a range would pretty much mean getting the match on the schedule - send a proposal to the Board of Directors, and so on.  Working it in with the other shooters would be better.  Now that might not be so hard with all the days, especially late afternoons, when the range is all but  empty.  The 2 second rule for rapid fire will be enforced.  Scott Pieper is an employee and board member, but he is not the final say on operation of the club.

The highpower clinic is free, so you should all come out.  A side benefit is the certificate you will receive (unless things change this year) that you can use to buy a rifle from the CMP if you don't qualify another way.
