They, provided they are reliable, all serve diff. Purposes

Weight wise, humping, then 20 and 30s. Or you can carry 40s, cause if weight is serious issue, weight per round is going be lighter per 40 vs 30s and 20 to get the same number cause of the weight of the extra mags. I just wouldn't recommend em cause of length and bulk and total weight savings wouldn't be a lot

That said, 40s, 100s, and 60 I think are fine for when you don't have to hump gear, like home defense.

As to mag couplers, despite thier shortcomings, it does provide a spare mag for reload or malf fix if you're in a grab rifle only and go. ...it's gonna be the fastest reload than going back

To me, a large bulky mag is only good for escaping or entering an area where not changing mags is vital.

I agree with you.

I once was issued the Redi-Mag.  Installed and tried liking it but the weight balance was off the gun so took it off.  If you're have a stored rifle for pick up and go, then they are another option.

I mostly have 30s because they look right with the gun but for all practical purposes I think 20s are the best, plenty of capacity and short enough to help with bench shooting, prone, or using a bipod.

I have coupled 40s in my bedroom corner rifle.

80 rounds isn’t a good amount of influence should you need to handle a problem in just your skivvies at 0300.

30s only for work guns though.

I'm just now discovering the 40 rd PMAG and how well it works in the prone position....

I wish the magazines were 32 rounds so you could load to 30 and feel "OK" about spring wear.

honestly, price. I'd buy 40s if I can find them under $10 for Pmags, otherwise it's just WAY more cost effective to grab the 30s

Here is one possible solution, a 35 round mag the same size as a 30...

Because only 1 company makes provenly reliable 40s.
You can also buy 30rd mags for less than half the price.
