I did a search on this and came up dry.

I read a little bit ago that Wolf was going to make their .223 hotter (100fps or so).

Any idea when I can get my greasy dick beaters on this stuff, and if it will affect the price at all?

The rumor is it is supposed to happen sometime this year.

Ya, that's the thread I originally caught wind of it in.  I was wondering if anyone heard anything further on this stuff.

If it picked up another 100 FPS, wouldnt it be closer to NATO velocity?

I just got 1000 of the 62gr, and it seemed to be hotter than I remembered.

anything other than perception that would indicate it was hotter? something on the box perhaps?

Closer?  Yes.  100fps closer.    But that wont make it to NATO MV's.... just closer.

Without chrony, ammo lot, and barrel type/length information.... it really is all speculative.

I chrono'd the 55gr stuff I bought sometime last year. It's about 4-500fps below M193 out of a 16" rifle.

THAT low?  You sure about that?  Since M193 is around 3200 out of a 20", and 3100 out of a 16" barrel - that would make Wolf 2600-2700FPS at the muzzle?  Surely it isnt that slow!

Well, I just bought 1000 rounds from Sportsman's Guide, so we'll see if it feels any hotter than all the other Wolf I have shot.

I  bet it is.  That is why is short strokes in so many rifles.

Seems a bit pricey even if it is a little hotter when compared to what else is out there.

Avg: 2714.2
ES: 104
SD: 37.66

This is perfectly aligned with the data chasmg got. Look at the numbers I saved here: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=177728

Not really - the info from chasemg states 62gr Wolf, which is substantially slower.

I havent seen where the 55gr stuff was that slow.  I need to buy a chrony.  From the link above - they got 3100FPS from a 20" barrel - or about 300FPS slower than M193.  Which is close to what I expected.

 Copy/Pasted from Outdoor Marksman's website:

Product Description:
Velocity 3025 fps, Energy 1260 ft lbs, Non Reloadable Boxer Primed Brass Case Steel Case, Non Corrosive, Made in Russia

is this material?  It looks like they put in a bunch of random keywords in there (the brass case steel case thing...)  But what about the speed/energy data?

I like 62gr ammo much more than 55gr (call me crazy) so if Wolf makes a nice hot 62gr load, that would make me very happy.

Are you talking about this? www.wolfammo.com.  There is a ad for it in Shotgun News, but I don't see any >223 or 5.56 on the site?

I actually got the specs that i copy/pasted from Outdoor Marksman, but the numbers are the same.

Has anyone verified the fps for the 62gr?

My last batch of Wolf, 55 grain (2005) chrony'd at 2943 fps @ 15 yds from the muzzle (in 20" A-Forgery). another 100 fps would be wonderful...as long as they don't screw something else in the process

Am I the only guy on earth who buys 62gr ammo?

Nope.

I shoot mostly 62gr stuff.  I would love to see Wolf bump up their 62gr load closer to the M855 velocities.  Anything to keep my POA closer to my main ammo.

I have 4900 rds of Wolf 62gr FMJ (blasting ammo), 1500rds XM855PD (more blasting), 1500rds M855 on strippers (social functions ammo), and 1000rds Federal AE (distiance plinking ammo).

I have my main rifle sighted in with the XM855PD ammo(so I can use the M855 for it in social situtations), my newest project rifle is going to be sighted in with the American Eagle ammo once the optics and rings come off of eternal back order!

Did anyone get around to shooting the new steel 55 and 62gr stuff over a chrono?
