Well, i'm not going to say anything yet, but if it's decent ammo that meets real M193 specs, and they can get the price down a bit [which they probably can, given time], then we might have something here.

Now, if they'll make a Mk262 load, they might just have a winner here .

Wolf steel cased has its place, for budget shooters and the AKs. But if this 'imported surplus' line they're opening works out, Wolf may become one of the AR-15 ammo suppliers.

I'd still rather have IMI or Lake City ammo... But hell, sometimes you can't find that. And when you can, it's costly. I say buy Lake City, IMI and Winchester when you can, and sit on it, then shoot this stuff at the range.

That does assume, however, that the price comes way down. But I'm guessing it will.

wolf is great training ammo. i re-zero with good stuff, then switch to wolf to run drills. saves me a lot of money. people can bitch about wolf all they want but they listen to us and they give us what we want.

we wanted .308...we got it
we wanted a velocity increase...we're getting it
we wanted .30 carbine...we got it
6.5 we got it
7.5 we got it

once economies of scale kicks in and prices come down the prvi ammo and the .308 will be more cost effective. wolf has done shooters in the US a great service and they deserve to prosper.

If this is made in the Prvi Partisan plant up to their standards, I actually expect it to be very good. The Prvi Partisan 7.5x55 Swiss I've shot has been absolutly superb, almost as good as the surplus(which if you know how good the surplus GP11 is, you'd realize what I'm talking about).

If this becomes openly available for around $40-50 per 200, I might pick up a pack just to try it out. But hell would have to freeze over and pigs would fly before I even consider ordering from Sportsmans Guide.

I only wonder though if this truely has a NATO head stamp or not.

M193 ain't a NATO load, and thus, can't have a real NATO headstamp.

Almost exclusively true, but not quite.  The new Q3131 M193 Winchester has been putting out has a NATO headstamp, but that's only because they used M855 brass.

Very interesting.

Once this ammo becomes more available and when the price eventually drops down to about $175.00 for 1000 rounds or less (it will have to in order to sell), then I will consider buying some of it. Hopefully it will sell well enough here to keep the supply coming. That way if there are future shortages of XM193, Q3131 and Q3131A again, we'll have a viable option. That is if this stuff is up to true M193 specs in terms of velocity, sealant and bullet construction.

Maybe the higher Wolf ammo prices is just a sign of the future of all ammo prices?

$0.25 Brass Wolf ammo may look good next to $0.35 domestic 5.56mm in 2006.

We asked Wolf about 5.7x28 and they're planning to make it starting next year. If they keep this up, they're going to make a shit load of money.

I have never shot wolf ammo in any of my ARs, but it seems to me the Wolf ammunition company is trying to give the people what they want. They have cheap steel cased ammo for those folks that shoot alot, and don't reload. Wolf is manufacturing the 7.5 Swiss and soon the 6.5 Grendel. Now they have  a brass cased 5.56 pressure M193 style round which is in very high demand these days. Everyone seems to be looking for 55gr 5.56 pressure ammunition. After reading this thread I am really liking the Wolf ammunition company alot.  I will be willing to try some of this Wolf M193 as soon as it becomes available. I could be a convert.

You know if it was M193 spec (bullet weight/velocity) it wouldn't even have to have the same fragmentation characteristics for me to buy a bunch of it... I'd use it for practice ammo, saving my real XM193 and Q3131a for a rainy day.

IF it fragmented too? Icing on the cake!

Nothing new about ths stuff. WOlf has listed a brass cased .223 for years now, they just were not selling it here. Nice to see them sell it here now, but for that price I'd rather buy black hills 55gr FMJ.

May have to get some to try it though.

Okay Ill add a TAG and my thoughts,..
I have 2 problems with Regular Wolf 55grn steel loads...I know I know were not talking about Steel Wolf but the report of a 100fps increase has me intrigued.

1.Too slow, Yeah its blasting ammo,.. But Id like it to be training ammo as well, Screw zeroing for Milspec 5.56 and shooting a load thats 300fps slower, Its a damn pain and pisses me off,.. "lets see Im 1.6" high at 100y with XM193,that makes me 2.7" low with wolf, so I hold over X...." Funk that.
2.Stinks to high heaven!

Well lets see:
Dear Wolf,
I want a 5.56mm 55grn FMJ loaded to full 5.56mm pressure and velocity for $170/k that doesnt smell like rotten eggs.
  Thanks, Udog

Theres 1

I do not need sealant, crimped primers, or M193 spec bullets.  Just enough bullet crimp to keep setback in check. Basically I want it to match my M193 zero at blasting ammo prices.

Prvi Partizan used to be imported in much larger amounts under the Hansen name before it was moved to Israel.

They are one of the highest quality manufacturers around.  if the price dropped I would buy this in bulk.

If they did make this ammo - I would want M193 bullets, sealed bullets, primers, and primer crimps.  If you cant store it long term, or trust that the primers wont blow out under that kind of pressure..... it had better be cheaper than $175/k.

I love these discussions.  Its like talking to someone that is so focused on what they are going to say in order to swat you down that they don't hear what you say.

THIS IS YUGOSLAVIAN MADE, brass-cased M193 5.56mm EQUIVALENT - it is not RUSSIAN manufacture polymer-coated (Wolf no longer makes LAQUERED ammunition).

In other news, expect a 75 gr "Multi-Purpose Tactical" OTM 5.56mm load in the brass cased Wolf Gold ( YUGOSLAVIAN MANUFACTURE Privi Partisan) at 2700 fps from Wolf.

This is muzzle velocity equivalent to Hornady TAP or BH.

By the way, all boxer primed, steel-cased ammunition is reloadable.  You can't reload it very many times, but you can reloaded.

I was shooting with a freind this weekend..... with Monarch (Barnaul) 55 FMJ, and it was boxer primed, BRASS cased ammo!

It wasn't all that reasonable in price from Academy Sports, but I have never seen this before.  It had haedstamps that looked like Yugo.  Perhaps Monarch is already bring this stuff in?

FWIW, this stuff was really inaccurate.  On par with Wolf steel cased stuff.  It shot about 3-4MOA at 100yds.  But it all went bang, just like Wolf.  I need to get a pic of the headstamp.

Most of those who've used the Q3131 agree it is in no way shape or form the equivalent of Q3131A which was equivalent to M193.

I paid 214/1000 for the box and 240/1000 for the bandoleers.  Not complaining.  I got the real deal, and will buy it every chance I can under 250$/1000.  IT'll outlast me in proper storage and shoots great.

I got my test ammo from Sportsman's guide today.  It came in a green battle pack labeled

WOLF
Performance Ammunition
200 CARTRIDGES
5.56mm M193 Ball
55 grain Full Metal Jacket

Made in Serbia.

It was packed with 10 squarish white boxes with 20 rounds per box stacked 5 by 4.

It's headstamped with cyrillic lettering that looks like 'nny' and it's dated 2005.  All brass is uniform and shiny, no issues seen

The primers are sealed.  I pulled a bullet and it looks like there might be a very small amount of bullet sealant as well.

All in all, it "looks" like quality ammo!

nny -  rvi Partizan-Namenska Proizvodnja, Titovo, Uzice 31000, Yugoslavia. These are actually Cyrillic letters equal to "PPU in the Western alphabet.
