Awesome!
Now, I see that particularly on your second AR, you too go very classic.
How do you feel about the brace with such classic builds? Didn't you think that the KAK blade was probably - looks wise and looks alone - closer to the general look of such classic AR's?

Adding one of mine - similar to yours indeed (Commando). I do have blades, it's just a pain to go back and switch the pistol buffer with SBA3's buffer all over again.

I originally had a shockwave brace on it, and it did look a little bit more original that way. But the SBA3 brace is not only better working but it uses a mill spec buffer tube, closer to the originals. I much prefer the SBA3 brace over the shockwave in every way.

Both are 12.5" barrels. On the 308 is a Hughes Precision .7" 5/8 to 5/8 extender to allow the shoulder of the SF brake to live outside the rail.

The one I just received has a normal 6 position RE.

I was under the impression that these should have a 5 position tube (what the box says), with the 6th position not machined?

Will this cause a problem with LOP?  Sorry if this has been covered.

Just ran across this which explains it: "This only refers to a certain “length” that would make a brace into a stock. The new SBA3 brace is a 5 position adjustable brace. The reason it is only 5 position is due to this specific “length”. By staying at the fifth position, the brace stays under the length that would be deemed a stock. If the ATF is measuring firearms with the brace folded, then what is the whole point of measuring the brace length with regards to making a brace or a stock?"

Full context: https://www-thefirearmblog-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/05/24/oal-brace-folded/amp/?_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQECAFYAQ%3D%3D&_js_v=0.1#aoh=15449047467285&_ct=1544904765479&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From%20%251%24s&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thefirearmblog.com%2Fblog%2F2018%2F05%2F24%2Foal-brace-folded%2F

When looking at this soup sandwich of ATF decisions, whether in writing or verbal, the user needs to determine what, exactly they are trying to do or not do.

OAL comes into play on whether a VFG can be added to a "firearm" (26" or more) or if doing so makes it an AOW (Less than 26").

LOP comes into play to avoid "it's a stock" - and this one is based on a verbal conversation that KAK had with ATF on the phone - stay under 13.5"

OAL is measured with the firearm in it's most compact but still operable form. Unthread the muzzle device, and take the brace off the tube.
A folding adapter should be folded when measuring, since the weapon can still fire (one round in the case of Law Tactical) - think Under-folding AK's or Side-folding FALs.

LOP is measured from Trigger "bow" to end of (in our case) the Brace fully extended.

That's my read anyway - and that's just for Federal...

Edit: Annnnnd I may be being influenced by my state law:
"The stock extended is a departure from how some states require individuals to measure the overall length of the firearm. That said, we are discussing federal law, but be aware of the difference if you happen to reside in one of those states"

So the Feds measure with the SBA3's on the tube, extended? Cool.

Bought one... but now I'm wondering, which buffer and spring to go with? I think carbine spring? What's the "standard" weight buffer for these pistol builds? I'm guessing depends on how it's gassed but what's the most common?
View Quote
Hard to say. What barrel, to include caliber, gas length, barrel length, brand name? Measured or advertised gas port size would be a plus but can probably be researched. Fixed or adjustable gas block? Generally for a 5.56 pistol (for me), an H / H2 buffer covers it well from 8.5" thru 10.5" (my barrels). Standard carbine spring.

Concur.  I run H marked buffers in just about everything.  On my 10.5 I also run an adjustable carrier because of the suppressor. That upper was way over gassed and the can didn't help any.

the tucked flaps on this make it actually appealing.  I HATE how long and droopy it is in its natural config.  The PDW version isnt and I don't understand why they made the SBA3 so fucking long.  That right there in your pic may get me to do a .300BO pistola.

Anyone know if the SBA3 would work on a CAR buffer tube? Want to upgrade from the shockwave on my 609 pistol, but would rather have a black 6-position tube than a brace that won't lock in the extended position on a 2-position tube.
