Anyone seen a ‘chopped’ LMT A2 rear sight on a block I or MWS in the wild/sandbox?

I'm sure.

I've seen pics of Kyle Defoor running that setup on his Mk18 in Afghanistan.

When I first came into Astan in 14', there was a Mk18 Mod 0 on the program with a LMT A2 sight.  Only time I've seen that rear sight.

This article mentions rough timelines for chopped carry handle sights, although it doesn't specifically name LMT: https://soldiersystems.net/2015/04/14/bcmgunfighter-history-pt-3-kyle-defoor/

Great read, thanks. That’s actually what I had been wondering, if the chopped down A2 sight was ever used on 14.5s. Of course, I see them on Mk18 Mod 0s and CQBRs frequently, just wasn’t sure if it had ever been on the full length M4.  According to that article, yup, that’s where it started. But alas, it was the real deal (actually chopped, not manufactured).

Thinking about keeping an LMT ‘chopped’ A2 behind my CompM4s on my 14.5 MWS.  The CompM4s is a big fat-ass RDS, and the LMT looks proportional and right at home behind it.  Works well too, and what I really like is, like the article said, it’s bombproof.  It would replace the clone-correct Matech I had on it previously.

Sacrilege?

ETA: I like using my irons sometimes, for the fun & challenge of it.  I know Matech is the clone correct option, but I have at least three of those on different setups, and dare I say… Matech, Schmatech... meh, I just don’t like them all that much.

I’m running the LMT A2 behind a PRO with the raised Wilson mount on my Mod 0 type 14.5 clone and you are right they work great together.

I thought this was a clone thread (casual, anyway), that’s why I was asking here if it had been seen on a 14.5 in the wild, but thanks for clearing that up. I am liking the new setup so far.

I figure using the LMT sight has to be at least as correct as the folks using a PRO in place of a Comp M2.

There aren't too many CompM2's around out there worth a damn anymore due to use and abuse and the PRO, when the mount and caps are changed, is identical to the M2.  In addition, the PRO is a better sight with a better dot, longer battery life and greater water resistance depth.

I cannot comment on the LMT sight as I don't know when or if that was used on Block rifles

This is definitely a clone thread. And LMTs we're definitely used mostly on navy guns. Very rarely were they seen outside of the navy and on block IIs. One cqbr picture comes to mind though.

this is technically a mk18 mod 0 but the navy rebarreled them w/ a 14.5 inch barrel. If you dig some more you can find them w/ the comp 2s

Ok guys looking for some direction. I’ve built a few footprint clones and a hodge podge that I considered a block 2, but have been picking up some salty parts here and there for a while that I have found for a good deal. I want to build two solid clones but need direction on where to head with what I have. I’ve read and read but it all gets to be mush after a while trying to figure out what parts are correct for different time periods.

I want to build a mk18 mod 0 and a 14.5 m4 w/ acog (block 1.5?) I plan to share a nt4 suppressor between the two and will probably share a lower but mostly concentrating on the uppers for now.

I picked up the following 3 uppers

Colt raised C A/F no T marks
Colt raised C A/H with T marks
Colt stamped C keyhole with T marks

I have a colt 14.5  with fsp socom 10/08 production barrel and a kac vero ras/broom handle set.

So my question is what parts should I put together so far, and what should the M4 clone be?

Your 14.5" M4 with either a KAC RIS or RAS would be a block 1 build.  Block 1's had ACOG TA01NSN and NT4 suppressors.  A Block 1.5 would have either a EoTech or Elcan for sighting equipment.  Parts get worn out and replaced with new production parts.  Still same gun.

Cool, I’m going for that 08’ Block 1 vibe. Final question, for an 08’, is the matech rear paired with a TA01NSN, M4 waffle stock and Surefire M951 work or should I switch out to the M150 ACOG and a newer SF light? I’m not looking to clone an out of the box rifle, I want something kinda transitional.

At what point did the PEQ-15 start getting used on the M4 and is it part of the Block 1, or later?  Would it be appropriate on Block 1?  MWS?

I love that picture.  I have had it saved for years wanting to build the Colt Canada C8A3 or SFW.  It is not an M4 SOPMOD though with a 15.7 inch barrel and a removable Simon Sleeve to attach the Canadian grenade launcher.
I never built it.

Didn't even notice that - good catch.

Saw the A frame fsb, acog, quad rails, and CAR stock and just assumed they were early Block Is.

Block II and PR basically the same thing. Just is a cloner term to help differentiate the difference between a m4a1 w/ and w/o a RIS II. It's allot easier for units to throw on accessories then replace the rail. Block II came online around 08 I believe maybe late 07?

Others like CD can definitely go into detail more about it but that's a pretty decent summary

Block II accessories started going out in 2007 or so. If a person still had/has a plain old M4A1 without a RIS II URG or a RIS II FSP installed, they would put those accessories if and when they were issued them. That's what people call a Block 1.5. It's basically a Block I rail with Block II everything else. There are still a few Block 1.5s out there but they are probably all issued to support personnel.

Thanks fellas trying to understand the time line of roll outs. So block 1.5’s and 2’s were issued around the same time then, I always figured it was a progression one step to the next. And block 1’s rolled out about 97-98 correct?

Pretty sweet.  Although we were informed a few pages back that many of our rifles were more "MWS" than "Block 1" but yours is quite similar to mine.  Only thing that is obvious would be the mount for the PRO, if you were able to get an Aimpoint QRP mount (the original mount for the CompM2 which looks just like the PRO) or a Wilcox mount then it would look more proper.  The buttstock would be more appropriate if it was the Colt sliding stock, either the first design or the later waffle stock design, or the SOPMOD B5 Gen1 which looks similar to your stock.  I recently had an extra QRP mount but I sold it on the EE.  Good looking rifle.
