Does anybody have one? like it/ dislike it? if so, why. how well does it work with the BDM mags, and does it work with full auto?

Mine is on order, but from what Angela says its outrageous. And there might be an upgrade very soon to the upper. STAY TUNED

Hey badazzar15 i ordered a 22 Upper 3-4 weeks ago and sent payment, do you know how much longer till i get it...
thanks Juan |
Last time I talked to Angela, she said it was 6 weeks. Thats when I ordered mine. But that was 3 weeks ago. Things might have changed |
We had a few bad ones out there, but we were more than happy to replace them, and if there is any still out there we would be more than happy to exchange them as well. |
you should really not come here talking like that... you know we have this problem with these rifles.... its like havin an open bar at an AA meeting now im going to have to buy one damn fooled again |
Man this is tough.. I'm down to one of these, or a GSG-5.. I've literally had my credit card out TWICE on ST's web site, and backed off. What's changing with the uppers?
We had a bad batch of barrels along time ago that was missed by our QC. The Accuracy was terrible on some of them. That Isn't likely to happen again Now that Spike has upped his staff and has me doing the 22's. Everything will also be test fired before it leaves our shop. The bolts are going to be ALOT Nicer than the Converted Ceiner bolt was. Ive got 2 of my own personal uppers now, both have Shaw barrels, one has a Mod. Ceiner bolt and the other has our Prototype bolt bewteen the 2 uppers Ive got close to 15k on them with ZERO Issue running BDM mags. and the little 6" barrel is Very accurate for its length. We are also going to offer Lothar Walther Chromoly barrels too but those are about 2 months out still. -Tom@Spike's Tactical |
I know your still working on getting the uppers out, im not asking for a specific date, but what kinda time estimate do you think would be in the ball park for when the bolt kits will be available?
So Tom, What kind of accuracy are you talking about for the bad ones. I've got a Spike's barrel that I've shot a dozen different .22s through and the best I've been able to get is 1"@25 yards. I installed a Model 1 Sales pencil barrel in the same rifle with an unmodified Ciener unit and I can get 3/4" groups. This barrel shooting .223 will put 5 shots in one hole at that distance. |

I have one that has ~650 rounds through it. 1 1/2 Federal value packs.
Just got back from shooting the 1/2 of a value pack 15 minutes ago. observations: Its 22LR in a AR upper good reliability Runs very well with the BDM magazines You have to run jacketed bullets in it, no lead bullets will function through mine. Not a real biggie they are still very cheap. Accuracy is not as good as I had hoped, but I have not really tried to find an accurate load for it either. I have a bunch of the Federal and have been running it. Once I start to run low on it, or find the time I imagine I can find a more accurate load. They are great training setup for teaching new shooters. My niece is getting to the age to start shooting and I am teaching my sister as well. The 22 is non threatening load and you get to use all of the good ergos of an AR. Can you tell I like them? |
Ive got the same upper as yours Instock, Send yours back and Ill replace it, The new one will also have a FSB Installed. Sorry about all the Issues you had. The new uppers won't have the issues our old stuff had, It was a learning expirence and we won't allow it to happen again. -Tom@Spike's Tactical |
I may take you up on that. IM sent. |
I would love for you to take me up on the offer as I don't like reading post like this. -Tom@Spike's Tactical |

+1 For Tom. Spikes has the best customer service I have ever dealt with. |
Thanks man. -Tom@Spike's Tactical |

That is some great customer service from a dealer!!!! I wish I had went with Spikes instead of Model 1 for my 22 upper. Keep up the good work!!!!! |
I sent my upper back to Tom on Saturday. He is going to replace my upper and barrel with one from Model 1 Sales and use the existing Ciener kit. As soon as I get it back I'll update everyone. |
I'd love to try a .22 dedicated upper, but the price has kept me away.
Moon |
They pay for themselves very very quickly $365 for a case of .223 gets you ~6000 rounds of .22lr. |
Alot more than that. Think I spent $88 a couple months ago for 3K of 22 and a bottle of shampoo at wallyworld. At $12 for fed bulk 550 packs at wally world, you can get about 16,500 rounds of 22lr for $360. Hmmmm, maybe I oughta look into one o dees kit thingys. How much does the 22 conversion kit run for? |
Yeah, I missed a digit on that number |
Did you get the New upper yet? Please keep me updated as to how it shoots. -Tom@Spike's Tactical |
UPS tracking says it will be here tomorrow. I'll get out and shoot it next weekend. Thanks. |
Awesome, Keep In touch. -Tom@Spike's Tactical |
So, you can't shoot standard unjacketed lead .22LR with the new M4 .22LR upper? I was planning on using it at our club's indoor range, but you can only use sub-sonic unjacketed rounds. Please Tom, tell me in aint so. John |
My Tomahawk upper will eat anything I shoot through it, While My 6" upper only likes Federal Bulk pack or any other Non-Lead tipped bullets. There is no way around it, some like them while some don't. |

Thanks again Tom!
Spikes is back on my recommended vendors list. Upper ran great today. Was shooting 10 shot groups of about 1 inch at 25 yards with cheap ammo. Only malfunctions were with a couple of new full profile BDM magazine I had not yet made the feedlip modification on (fired brass will sometimes hit the feedlips before the ejector). All the BDM mags with modified feedlips ran perfect. |
Awesome! |
Im not positive but I think they come with 1 BDM mag. |
I missed you guys at the last Ft. Myres gun show. I see you are going to be back there in late June. Do you think you will be bringing any of the uppers with you?
Oh, and mags too.... |
Maybe.. |
I'm waiting on the Spike's conversion bolt to use in my current uppers.
What's the deal with the BDM Feedlip Mod? Can't wait to get my upper......ordered 2/6 and still waiting :(
Good point, however I believe you will find that most folks who are looking at this want it as justa fun toy and not something for SHTF. |
I can see your point, but I hardly ever shoot my 10/22's anymore. Honestly the only 22LR rifles I have shot this year have been my 22lr upper, my niece's pink Cricket, and a friends Kimber boltgun. I will give you one guess which one I have shot the most (it ain't the pink one!) |
More like what's the deal with BDM mags? Anybody else notice how awkward they are to insert into the magwell? The curve is a little "off" and I'm certain it needs to be this way to work but it's going to be interesting trying to do quick mag changes. |
Is the Spikes conversion bolt like the Ciener conversion kit? |
