We had a few bad ones out there, but we were more than happy to replace them, and if there is any still out there we would be more than happy to exchange them as well.

We had a bad batch of barrels along time ago that was missed by our QC. The Accuracy was terrible on some of them. That Isn't likely to happen again Now that Spike has upped his staff and has me doing the 22's. Everything will also be test fired before it leaves our shop. The bolts are going to be ALOT Nicer than the Converted Ceiner bolt was. Ive got 2 of my own personal uppers now, both have Shaw barrels, one has a Mod. Ceiner bolt and the other has our Prototype bolt bewteen the 2 uppers Ive got close to 15k on them with ZERO Issue running BDM mags. and the little 6" barrel is Very accurate for its length. We are also going to offer Lothar Walther Chromoly barrels too but those are about 2 months out still.

-Tom@Spike's Tactical

So Tom,
What kind of accuracy are you talking about for the bad ones.  I've got a Spike's barrel that I've shot a dozen different .22s through and the best I've been able to get is 1"@25 yards.
I installed a Model 1 Sales pencil barrel in the same rifle with an unmodified Ciener unit and I can get 3/4" groups.  This barrel shooting .223 will put 5 shots in one hole at that distance.

The first Spike's barrel I received from them would foul horribly and start printing bullets sideways at 10 yards within 5-10 rounds. My gunsmith gauged it with pin gauges and found two very tight spots in the bore. I sent it back to Spikes and they replaced it. However I was out the cost of having a FSB installed.

The second barrel gauged fine and the best accuracy I have achieved is about 3 inches at 50 yards. However, the extractor cut was shallow and it chipped at the chamber. My gunsmith cleaned it up and it seems to be running OK. Just not impressed with the accuracy. I could have sent it back but then would be out the cost of having two FSB's and taper pins installed and be left with no barrel.

The machining and chambers on both barrels was/is very rough. Not impressed with Spike's quality.

This is what the second barrel looks like after being chipped by the extractor. You can see how rough the chamber is.

This is the complete rifle. The steps in their M4 profile barrel are not to spec. The handguard cap can rattle about 1/2" between the FSB and the step in the profile. Not a big deal once the handguards are installed.

I sent my upper back to Tom on Saturday. He is going to replace my upper and barrel with one from Model 1 Sales and use the existing Ciener kit. As soon as I get it back I'll update everyone.

They pay for themselves very very quickly

$365 for a case of .223 gets you ~6000 rounds of .22lr.

Alot more than that.  Think I spent $88 a couple months ago for 3K of 22 and a bottle of shampoo at wallyworld.

At $12 for fed bulk 550 packs at wally world, you can get about 16,500 rounds of 22lr for $360.

Hmmmm, maybe I oughta look into one o dees kit thingys.

How much does the 22 conversion kit run for?

You have to run jacketed bullets in it, no lead bullets will function through mine. Not a real biggie they are still very cheap.

So, you can't shoot standard unjacketed lead .22LR with the new M4 .22LR upper?  I was planning on using it at our club's indoor range, but you can only use sub-sonic unjacketed rounds.  Please Tom, tell me in aint so.

The new Model 1 Sales barrel is very nice. Has all the correct M4 dimensions. Bore and chamber look good. I'll get out and shoot it this weekend.

Thanks again Tom!

Spikes is back on my recommended vendors list.

Upper ran great today. Was shooting 10 shot groups of about 1 inch at 25 yards with cheap ammo.

Only malfunctions were with a couple of new full profile BDM magazine I had not yet made the feedlip modification on (fired brass will sometimes hit the feedlips before the ejector). All the BDM mags with modified feedlips ran perfect.

I say NO! Please no! Not that they are bad or don't run... it's just this. For the same money you can buy and trick out a 10/22. You end up with a whole nother gun!!! Not just more parts.

Pretend SHTF.... you are quietly hunting small game for supper with your AR/.22 upper. Zombies want your squirles... you have a .22LR in your hands, you transiion to your pistol.

Good point, however I believe you will find that most folks who are looking at this want it as justa fun toy and not something for SHTF.

More like what's the deal with BDM mags?  Anybody else notice how awkward they are to insert into the magwell?  The curve is a little "off" and I'm certain it needs to be this way to work but it's going to be interesting trying to do quick mag changes.
