Well, I'm infected with the RC aircraft bug.
Just because I fly the real ones means nothing when it comes to the RC world, I have five of these suckers now and believe it or not they still are in the air.

Here's my latest, I took a pic tonight because I think that early tomorrow it won't look like this any more (if you know what I mean)....

It's not a large wingspan 25", it's three channel electric, and elevator - aileron - throttle.

I'm going to "maiden" it in the morning, I hope it survives, I'll post pics of the aftermath tomorrow....

UPDATE:

Does anyone have any CA glue????

It was severely out of trim at launch and I just didn't have enough time to get it adjusted before it failed the ground abrasion test....

Actually I think I can fix it, it's bad - but not as bad as it looks......

I spent the rest of the morning flying my Ember 2, J3, and Micro P-51 with no mishaps......

It's still cheaper than building and flying my real ones.....

UPDATE 2:

Gotta love these foamies!!!
A little glue, a little reinforcement tape, a new prop and spinner, and I think it's almost good as new.
Electronics came through fine, it WILL fly again!
After the glue is really set and hardened I'll remove some of that surface glue that oozed out.

You should try RC combat (with streamers), 5 minutes of pure adrenalin if you don't do the lawn dart maneuver or have a major mid-air.

Fly half a dozen rounds and you go home exhausted.

An airplane doesn't turn with the rudder. It rolls, the rudder just helps "co-ordinate" the turn.

Actually, you can turn an RC aircraft with either rudder or aileron.
Turning with rudder is the beginner mode, turning with aileron is advanced.
In the RC world using rudder with aileron is the very advanced mode.

Ailerons and elevator. Just like the airline pilots do.

Left bank then up elevator will get a very sharp turn.

used to fly gentle lady 2 meter gliders , much fun then dad got the bug and built some 6 ft wingspan super nice all fiberglass glider with 7 channels , 6 months to build... 1st flight dumped it into a pool and it hit the side and sunk... watching him go to the door of the strangers house was no fun and it was totaled, he never flew again after that either except for falcon 4.0 in the PC

I built several of the large scale gas types made from balsa wood. My largest was a P51 Mustang with a 5 foot wingspan and fully operational landing gears. I had over 400 hours into building the thing and never hasd the balls to fly it. I sold it 10 years ago and the new owner promply crashed and burned.

When it comes to R/C planes, larger are always easier to fly.

Be sure to fly that little plane in calm air and over tall grass to maximize its chances of survival.

If you really wist to get into R/C, go find the local club and join. The clubs are always looking for new members to keep the hobby going strong.

I flew my Mid-Star .40 today for the first time in about 7 years. I graded out a 300' runway out back.

Thank god for the sim as I really was able to brush up on my skills without plowing the real thing into the dirt.

If you have never flown RC before I'd recommend a very tame learning electric airplane.
In that case you could get into it for somewhere between $100 - $200 dollars, that would include the airplane and a very simple transmitter.

Naw, I don't think so.
I won't fly it till I'm ready.
I also have a buddy cord for my TX.
I'm already flying a parkzone micro P51 with good results.

Yes, but I have an older version. I think it's 3.5.

I use Realflight G4. I was awsome to learn how to fly heli, Crash, hit a button and do it again, hell of a lot cheaper than learning on the real thing. Same goes for planes, i wish i had it when i started flying those!

Heres a couple screenshots this is from RF g4, upgraded to 4.5:
One handed hovering is hard! lol

And. you can modify the aircraft, i added a turbine and a 4 bladed v-tol prop on this one.

The thing I hate about G4 is that the people are too fast & get out of the way before you can plow your plane into 'em.

Park Zone is the place to start for flying in my opinion. You can get into it for under 200-250 bucks and flying them is easy, fixing them is cheap.

Sometime when I have time I'll snap some pictures of my dads non-ARF P-51 Mustang. I think it's got about a 45-50" wing on it. Don't remember what scale it is. Pneumatically retracted landing gears.

I have Real Flight Basic and have been having a blast learning to fly with it.

Have you tried to fly under that canopy covering the benches behind the flight line? It's not easy but can be done.

You can also land on top of it and sometimes take back off too.

I've seen them soak up multiple rounds from an M2-as long as you don't hit a servo, the reciever, the motor or a control arm, they're pretty tough to kill.

And for a first plane, I would seriously recommend an IFO MK3. It's built out of carbon fiber rod (not tube) and ripstop nylon. If they're built as recommended, they are super forgiving. If you make the throws 4+ inches (instead of 2.5) and throw an outrunner and 3 cell on it, it's a whole other animal.

I have a Parkzone P51 and it's hard as fuck to fly... It doesn't like to stay in the air unless it's flying damn near wide open throttle.

My Hobbyzone Super Cub is easy as fuck to fly. I can cut the power to zero and glide if I want... If I try that with the P51, it will fall out of the sky.

Needless to say... after the last fuselage destroying, lawn dart crash with the P51... I replaced the fuselage and hung it on the wall. Haven't flown it since.

i have tryed flying in all sorts of places on the maps, its amazing where you can go, and what you can land on. I like landing on roofs, or hanging from the prop to land on walls.

If it lasts as long as the ones I have flown, you have about 55 seconds.

Those little fuckers are harder to fly than the real thing .......
