My wife is Queen at this...

I'm a simple man, I only "need" a few things.  We don't have much extra money lying around, but my wife loves to fucking waste what we do have on shit we don't need.  It is beginning to piss me off.  FUCK!

Take the extra and put it away.

I forsee a money market fund in your future.

Thankfully, no.  My wife is tighter with money than I am.  I consider this a great attribute in a wife.

Nope.  My wife is awesome with money.  I think she's that way because since I don't make much $$$, she knows that if she spends us into debt/trouble, she won't get to stay home and be a mom, she'll have to go back to work.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 9:11:45 AM EDT
[#10]
No, she keeps me in check from buying nonsense.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 9:11:46 AM EDT

I'm the one that does that round here.

Today she surprises me with some new fancy nike's...I can't tell you how many pairs of unused shoes I have due to this woman. I tell her that I don't want them, and to send them back.  Then she freaks out on me telling me that she was just trying to do something nice...so I told her that I already have 5 nice things still sitting in the closet unused. It just got worse from that point on...

Nope, that's more my issue, and mostly gun related.  She keeps me in check.

Link Posted: 11/21/2008 9:14:25 AM EDT

Unfortunately, mine does. It is the main(if not only) source of arguments in our relationship.

Thankfully she's very frugal with her money.  I'm the dope that buys stuff that he doesn't need.  She does keep me in check, though, which is good.

My wife doesn't only buy things I don't need, she buys shit I don't want or even like.

I had to put my wife on an allowance.  Now we have lots of left over money at the end of the month.

...women, as a sex, are shrewd, resourceful, and acute; but the very fact that they are always concerned with imminent problems and that, in consequence, they are unaccustomed to dealing with the larger riddles of life, makes their mental attitude essentially petty. .... Women's constant thought is, not to lay down broad principles of right and wrong; not to place the whole world in harmony with some great scheme of justice; ...but to deceive, influence, sway and please men. Normally, their weakness makes masculine protection necessary to their existence and to the exercise of their overpowering maternal instinct, and so their whole effort is to obtain this protection in the easiest way possible. The net result is that feminine morality is a morality of opportunism and imminent expediency, and that the normal woman has no respect for, and scarcely a conception of abstract truth. Thus is proved a fact noted by Schopenhauer and many other observers: that a woman seldom manifests any true sense of justice or of honor.

H. L. Mencken wrote that in 1907 for his book, "The Philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche".

The wife was like that before we got married last year. Now I control the spending and we seem to have plenty each month, even when her pos ex-husband doesn't pay child support.

My ex was like that...

The current wife is the exact opposite and keeps me in check (most of the time).

Nope, separate accounts for the past 6 years which was established at the start.

We only share the kid's accounts so we can each deposit $$ and build their savings. which is easy with on-line banking.

Nothing better than being in control of your own cash from a responsibility standpoint.

Works great.

Not trying to be snarky but, instead of complaining to us, why not sit down and have a talk with her.

(I practically have to put a gun to my GF's head to get her to spend anything. One of the reasons I plan on marrying her! )

Yeah...Mine does.
Electricity?!? WTF? WASTEFUL FEMALE! We have candles, a propane grill, and blankets. (Ok, maybe I DO need the PC to surf ARFCOM). Never mind.

Nope.  Sorry.  My wife doesn't spent any money.  As matter of fact, we put way more than half of my income (single income family)

No

My wife is extremely trustworthy with money. Borderline tightwad. Much to my chagrin.

mine will spend if she knows we have, so since I manage the money, I just tell her we don't have, which we don't.  if it comes down to the choice of making investments or a new couch she's just gonna want to replace in a year, we damn sure don't have it...

nope, my wife is the one who makes sure i dont spend a huge amount of money
if it werent for my wife i would be broke living in a cardboard box with a bunch of guns.

My wife is better with money then I am. But we always know what to get each other without blowing too much.

Example, she got diamond earrings, I got a gun safe.

we keep our finances seperate ,it takes the issue of money off the table.

money issues helped ruined my first marriage ,at least it was a big issue!

with all due respect, you 2 should see a marriage counselor if you want to remain with her and live a happy life with her. she might very well be compensating or just have a shopping addition.

or at the very least check into some self help books.

both made a difference in my marriage.

My wife is every smart.  She has an MBA and makes 4x-5x what I make.  She handles billions of dollars a year in her job.  She is HORRIBLE with our own money.

We have separate checking accounts and the savings account is in my name only.

If she has $500 in her checking account she will spend 499.95 of it.

I tell everyone the secret to our happiness is separate bank accounts

She is bothered by something.  How much do the 2 of you talk?  And by talk, you're supposed to let her run her mouth and then you just take everything she says, jumble it around a little and repeat it to her in the form of a question.  It won't make any freaking sense to you, but for some reason, it is what helps women think.

She can buy all the fucked up shit SHE can afford, i have no problem with it.

I buy my shit!

"Honey money is tight" 2 days later she'd go shopping for crap. What part of Money is tight don't you understand.

Of course that makes me the A-hole.

Or I get the response "it was only a dollar". B.S.

On the one hand, she buys me stuff that I frequently do not want or when it arrives does not fit me.
OTOH, she refuses to buy herself things, including things she actually needs.
She's trying to figure out how to get out of buying a new computer chair since the wheel has come off of one leg.
She's also refusing a new computer, despite the fact hers is a creaky POS that barely runs only because of my replacing components on a regular basis.
She's getting these new items, because I'm tired of fixing her machine and continually having to keep putting the wheel back on her chair leg.

The thread title would be one of the main reasons why she is now the EX-wife.

I was trying to pay down bills, she was doing her damnedest to rack up bills.  She had to go, before my sanity did.

Divorce was final on Christmas Day, 1992.  One of the best Christmas presents, EVER.  Freedom as a gift never need be wrapped.

that is the funniest damn thing i have heard in a long time. i haven't heard it put that way before BUT its the sad truth.  they just need to spew their thoughts and the man just needs to listen and try to pretend like he understands.
