I got a used taurus .357 magnum at a local gun shop, a snubbie with the shrouded hammer. I was so pleased at first, I just got home from work and .357 shells do no fit in the cylinder, only .38 special rounds do!!!

I guess I'll call them tommorrow. It looked brand spankin' new, no wonder they pawned it. I wonder if it had cylinder work done or something. I'm so bummed. I hope I'm not stuck with this gun, I alread have a .38 special.

Maybe the previous owner shot lots of .38spl lead reloads through it and it needs a good cleaning. Try that before you call em.

Does it say .357 on the receipt? If so, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I'm not trying to sound like a dick, but what does it say on the weapon as opposed to the caliber labeled on the box or on the sign at the gunshop?

They could have been accidentally swapped at some point if .38 & .357 models were on display near one another.

+1 on correct gun sold with a few .38s through it already. After a few boxes of .38, it can get pretty hard to make the .357s go all the way in.

Ok, I cleaned it some with some copper and lead solvent and it seems to be build up from shooting .38 specials, a couple of the cyclinders are still tight.

I hope this doesn't mean anything bad. The gun hardly looks used, there is hardly a line around the cylinder even. The barrel looks to be chrome lined or something. The ends of the cylinders, where the bullets are, feel rough but so do the ones on the .38 specials I am conparing it to.

I guess I'll have to wait another day or so and see how she shoots. I hope I don't have cylinder binding problems, I had a .357 in which the cylinder would occasionaly lock up, I sold it.

I'm back to sorta being happy again. Happy but gaurded. Will shooting a lot of 38's cause damage?

Mount brass brush on electric drill. Dip in solvent, and go after it. That'll get the buildup out of there.

It's a taurus 651 357 magnum with shrouded hammer. My NAA had interchangable cylinders which gave me the idea that the cylinders may have been swapped. I'm not really a revolver person.

I cleaned and cleaned the cylinders and the rounds go in smooth, for the most part. Is there anything I should be aware of when I put a few full sized 357 rounds through it? The gun seems to have little wear, there is hardly a line around the cylinder and no mark on the frame above the gaps.

The gap between the rear of the cyclinder and the frame, the part of the frame with the firing pin, seems to be pretty big, I can see space even between the rim of the shells and the breechface, I don't know if you can use the term breechface with a revolver but you know what I mean.

See, this is why I like my glocks, there are few parts, it's obvious how they work, they all come apart and you can replace them. I was going to get a G36 as my CCW (I have a G26) but was concerned about being able to use proper grip in an emergency situation. I decided on a 357 revolver with a shrouded hammer. My 38special snubbie is actaully quite comfortable to carry. I want to get a fist holster for this one.

I only hope it works ok. I am concerned about how shooting the 38 special rounds may have affected it. I already emptied some 357 shells and shot them, primer only minus the bullet and gunpowder, just to make sure there was firing pin contact. THere was but the shell stuck a little bit against the rear of the gun and made the cyclinder hard to turn. It was like the primer popped out a lot or something. I'm wondering if I am going to have a sticking cylinder and if shooting 357 rounds will smooth it out.

I'll have to wait till Wed when I can take it to the range. I will update then. Any tips y'all can give me between now and then will be apprecieated. I was just about to make a fool of myself tommorrow morning at the gunshop, that would have been good for a laugh, these things are funnier when they happen to others, I was in full panic mode when I couldnt' get a shell in the cylinder.

Well there not quite as sticky now. I could not jam a round in using reasonble force at first and went into panic mode. My taurus 38 special works just fine, I hope this one does also. Other than cylinder build up it was very clean with little wear and tear. Of course I can't help but wonder if there was some reason they pawned it off.

Well I'll get to shoot it wednesday and when I do I'll come back here and either whine or brag. Either way my hand will hurt.

Tips?............Here's a tip for you..........the tingling in your hand after shooting full power .357's thru a snubbie is NOT a pathologic condition......it's normal..........it should go away in a few days......maybe.

And about the cylinder sticking after you fired empty cases, That tends to happens in pretty much any revolver. It probably won't do it with live ammo.

Sounds like a bunch of .38 was fired in it. There is a yellow cloth made by Kleenbore products (I think not enough coffee yet) that may help. either that or just chuck up a brush and short bit of cleaning rod into your trusty cordless drill and go to town.
