As many already know Sigarms will be releasing the Sig model 556 for commercial sales. Well keep your eyes opened for a press release on Thursday at 9am . I was told today from a very highly placed Sig exec that an anouncement will made then.

He confirmed to me that the new rifle will in fact accept AR15 magazines. I might be getting more info tomorrow as I have another meeting scheduled .

Are there any particular questions anyone has ?

The stock. Are you locked into the M4 style or can you fit other AR type stocks? Would there be something similar to the ACE for it?

Wondering that too... though I know that for MI we'd likely need the M4 type stock because the OAL folded is too short.

But there are likely better stock options out there... Magpul has some nice ones. Just wouldn't look right compared to the Swiss issue rifles.

The real thing is match grade right out of the box. Hope these meet the same standards.

Is it gonna be the same quality as the 550s I've seen. Love 'em or hate 'em they are works of art and none I saw was anything less than perfectly made. Now that they're gonna be made here in U.S.A., and for civilians, are they gonna cut some corners?

Of course the rep will say no. I think I'll wait a couple of years.

One thing I just remembered him telling me is that it will come with a rail system forend and I believe he said it was also free float as well. Soon as I know more I will be happy to post it here.

Damn. And I had plans for my tax refund. I was going to get an Air Raid system and a overhead cargo rack for my Jeep, new tires, put money away for a house.........

Oh well. Maybe next year.

I seriously doubt they are going to put out a piece of junk and stamp their rep to it. Aren't quite a bit of the handguns made here as well? I certainly have not seen a lot of people complain about cut-corners or poor quality on them.

Stranger things have happened. I think you're probably right but I seriously doubt it's gonna be on par with their LE rifles. Otherwise, why would LE pay more except for full-auto? That,or the price will be the same as, or more than, LE.

ETA: I just don't see this working out to be the 550-style rifle everyone's dreamed of, with more features than anyone imagined, for half the price we expected to pay. I wish that would happen but it just ain't gonna, no matter what super-secret sources suggest.

The guy was in my office today and like I said he is pretty high on the food chain with Sig, not just a rep. I have no stake in this just thought I would share the info with the fellas. All you gotta do is check their website on Thursday morning like he said.
