So Robert, that is a what...... a 4 or 5 minute group?  It still can't hold a candle to a well-built AR IMHO.

That's 10 cent Russian ammo. Can anyone do that with 10 cent AR ammo?

That's also a 10rd group, not the BS 3rd groups I see here all the time. How tight are the best 3rds in my target?

That was done with a 3.5x rusky scope, not a $800 Leupy dialed at 10x or more.

If I set up a dozen targets at a time and only shoot 3rd groups it's only a matter of time before I'll have one with them all touching. That's why I shoot 10rd groups, the only true test. That target cost a dollar a shoot! Can your AR beat that for $1 ?

I've used a 6-20x on AKs when I was doing accuracy testing years ago. I probably would have kept at it except my bolt froze when a defective receiver began disintegrating. It took months to get that AK fixed, so I put the scope on a Ruger 10/22 after that and hit the 300 yard range.

I don't want to seem an ass but my used, off the rack, run-of-the-mill, DPMS rifle will easily put 10 rounds into 2".  3" or so with irons and some time.  Repeatable and not hard to accomplish.  With reloads that shrinks a bit, with Wolf it opens up quite a bit.

Now if that's from a standing or kneeling position then it's pretty good in my estimation.  If that's from a bench, it's nothing exciting.   If you want pictures of my 10 round groups I can probably dig them up.

Putting a scope like that on an AK is just a waste of money unless you simply can't see target for eyesight reasons, or you for some reason what to know the very limits of the rifles accuracy.

ETA:  I'm not dogging your target so don't take it that way.

Don't get me wrong, that is a nice group.

Many of the targets I shoot at have a 1MOA x ring and a 2 MOA ten ring.  My service rifles have the ability to keep 10 rounds in the x ring  (I wish I did).  I'll admit that I am using better ammo, but with handloads, the cost is something like $0.15-0.2 per round.  I shoot with iron sights.....meaning no glass at all.

I am not that good of shot.....yet.  Most of the shooters on the comp board could easily beat me like a red-headed step-child.  A top athlete will use the best available gear......ever wonder why no one wins the national championship with an AK?

We are comparing apples to oranges.  If you don't mind, I'll e-mail you a couple of practice groups.  The load was a 52 grain sierra, 24.5 grains of h335 and a cci primer in lake city brass.  Distance was 100 yards, rapid fire prone.  This means I started from standing with an unloaded rifle, laid down loaded the rifle, fired two, changed mags, shot the remaining 8 and was done in 70 seconds.  Note the first group was out of the black.  I made a sight correction and shot the target again.

Come on out and try it!

Between the $300 that he paid for the rifle, the $350 he probably paid for the scope and whatever he paid for all the other shit he could have gotten himself a really nice gun.

Truly, truly funny. My first long arm (I was 27 or 28) was an SKS. I put a Fiberforce, detachable mags, a 3x9x40 Nikon (!) scope, and a shell deflector on the carbine, only to discover that I couldn't hit shit with it at 200 yards.

Perhaps it was the Chinese ammo I was using?

I've learned a couple of things about guns since then.

When I posted about my SKS accuracy problems I was told everything from, "I've never seen one that bad," to "It's not the gun it's the shooter." "It's a tack driver," don't you know.

I have three SKS's that sit on the rack because the best I ever got was horrendous at 50 yards.

I also got slapped around for selling off a Vepr that was all over the place at 200 yards. It was also unreliable and that was a bigger factor in its departing from my rack.

Tell the owner next time hes at the range to remove the scope, and chuck it at the target, he'll get better results.

The AK with scope is a hoot for sure. But I'm more stunned that someone in this thread is actually implying that they are getting accuracy as good or better from their AK at 100 yards than the average AR will do. One platform is a jeep, the other a sports car. Nothing wrong with the jeep at all if you use it in the manner it's intended, but you don't use a jeep in a road race.

I've never had an accurate SKS.  Both of mine look like that 100yd target at 50yds and that is the best they will do.  My friend has a Russian SKS that he can do wonders with.  He can shoot it better than his Bushmaster sometimes.
