Order a Shockwave and tell us how it goes getting it added to your permit.

Lol. Were you at Herbs? And was it 10x the price everywhere else?

I have one. Mossbergs are excellent shotgus regardless of the configuration. They are reliable, they are inexpensive, and they have crazy amounts of accessories. You have a riot gun, a self defense weapon, and a turkey shotgun with just a few tools. Plus they are 12 gauge which has trillions of different types of ammo from fire breathing rounds to even net throwing rounds that can bring down drones.
You will not be sorry getting one. |
|
they're fine and perfectly usable if you hold them away from your face
follow up shots will suck but hey, it's a pump anyways |
|
Shotguns are useless. Except maybe a Serbu Super Shorty.
That said, I liked my Mossberg a lot more than the 870. |
|
Go for it...
Mossberg 500's are the best deal in the gun market and have been for years... I've had about 4 follow me home of the years... ETA: A stock will find it's way on to in short order however. |
|
I guess if you want to be talked down, you can watch this.
Looks like fun for about one range trip, followed by a long period gathering dust in the safe. |

In theory, I will leave that adventure to braver men. View Quote It's actually a lot of fun for the money and no NFA wait. Just do it. |

cheaper than bud's, like $ 290 View Quote Having said that, watch Justified if you haven't. If you have, watch it again and you'll buy it. I watched it for the first time a couple weeks ago and have been having the same dilemma. I think I'm gonna do it. |
|
Don't do it!
Don't you already have more guns than you need?... |
|
|
$2XX is a relatively cheap mistake to make.
I ended putting a stock on mine and giving it to my parents for a HD weapon after Katrina, before they got on the AR bandwagon. Kinda tempted by the new "blunderbuss" grip on them, since the old pistol grip was unpleasant for anything besides birdshot. Also, a lot of ranges won't let you shoot them due to the idiot factor, so if you don't have your own land that's definitely a consideration. |
|
And now I want a 590 Shockwave as a truck gun.
Seriously, fuck this place. |
|
Cannot talk you down. I have the Shockwave, 2 Maverick 88's, the 410 pistol grip and a 20g for a truck gun.
They multiply like S&W revolvers around here. |
|
I'm surprised some sarcastic bastard here hasn't asked you the why do you want it
"To hunt birds" question yet! |
|
I have one in 20ga and it is nice. Paid $90 for it from gander. It was all gunked up and full of what looked like cosmoline (could barely cycle the action) An hour with a brush and soapy water and she was good as new
What is the legality of adding a shockwave grip to one with the original pistol grip? Required OAL? barrel length? |

I'd say this is one situation where the 870's safety placement makes more sense than the Mossberg, otherwise I agree with you completely. View Quote I took the safety out of my 500 and filled the hole with jb weld and color blended it to the gun. I can tell you in all honesty I beat the shit out of that shotgun and it runs like a top I even had to remove the pump hanguard and use the bare tube due to breaking it. I put some grip tape and gtg. I'd never treat my 870s the way I treat that old 500 |

Like a lot of 500s the safety button had broken in half and only half of it was still there. I laughed and pointed at it, he took out a pocket knife and flicked the half that was still there into the grass so the safety was just a screw sticking up by itself. |

If you treated dogs the way the Navy treats their M500s, Sarah McLaughlin would make a commercial about it, but those damn things never missed a beat. View Quote |

I have one. .410 in the bedroom
I wish I had bought the model with the stock. It's uncomfortable, that's just my opinion |
|
|
It will stow nicely in the kayak!
I carried a pistol grip shotgun on a couple kayak camping trips in college. |
|
I find the pistol grip with the safety on top annoying. Otherwise, great gun.

there is a thread by the battlefield las vegas guy in the shotguns section, they destroy a bunch of moss berg and remington pumps and just throw them out. He says the Benelli m4 is the only one that doesn't fall apart under hard use. Course that's 10 gazillion lifetimes worth of shotgun shells for most people View Quote Although the Benelli is built exceptionally well, I can buy 5 or more 500s to 1 benelli and still have money left over for ammo lol |

I have, I think, 3 or 4 inexpensive combat type shotguns, I rarely shoot them. Would I have been better off just buying a Benelli m4? I think so sometimes. If I was broke and 19 again I'd buy a 500 riotgun and a bird and slug barrel and probably be pretty happy View Quote |

I have one that had a grip that went straight vertical
killed my wrists to shoot it with 00buck I put a stock on it, I don't use it much |
|
I thought the recoil brutal in 12 ga. put a regular stock with pistol grip, better.
I bought one in 410 and it's a blast, recoil is nothing, Winchester PDX shells for SD. |

No, you want a shockwave equipped Mossberg.
Pistol gripped guns load all the recoil in your wrist. They suck. The birds-head style grip is much less obstreperous in that regard. |
|
My favorite shotgun ever is my Browning A5 Sweet 16 and I got an 870 manf long ago(when they were awesome) and my Saiga 12 conversion is still in the safe, so I'm not unaccustomed to other shotguns, Mossberg just loves to run tough as nails and super low price/high value product. I've never regretted buying Mossbergs. Cruiser is gtg.
