Amid rising drug and health care costs and roiling market dynamics, the spokesperson for the nation’s health insurers is predicting substantial increases next year in Obamacare premiums and related costs.

Without venturing a specific percentage increase, Marilyn Tavenner, the president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), said in an interview with Morning Consult that the culmination of market shifts and rising health care costs will force stark increases in health insurance rates in the coming year.

“I’ve been asked, what are the premiums going to look like?” she said. “I don’t know because it also varies by state, market, even within markets. But I think the overall trend is going to be higher than we saw previous years. That’s my big prediction.”

If Tavenner is right, Obamacare will jump dramatically—last year’s premium for the popular silver-level plan surged 11 percent on average. Although Tavenner didn’t mention deductibles, in 2016, some states saw jumps of 76 percent, while the average deductible for a 27-year-old male on a silver plan was 8 percent.

Huh, almost like it was designed to run premiums through the roof. Are we clamoring for single payer yet?

Using form 8965 is another possible way to avoid paying the penalty. It's worked for me. Probably not for all you ARF millionaires though.

Affordable Healthcare Act, yay!

With the government, you can expect the complete opposite of the bill name.

Patriot Act
Affordable Care Act
SAFE Act
Etc.

United Healthcare is pulling out of the ACA markets. Blue Cross Blue Shield most likely also will. There's no profit to be made, only massive losses.

Our family's rates went from $619/month last year, to $819/month this year, and I have learned that we didn't even see anywhere near what some of my friends have seen ($1600/month for 2).

We just pulled out.   That was my wife and kids, with me not even on the plan.

I don't understand????!!!

You mean you can't just make a law that defies all forms of mathematics and still have everything work out perfect?

That's racist

why won't white people let obamacare just work already

it's very simple - a far too small number of people pay moderate insurance premiums so that a huge number of people can get astronomically overpriced healthcare

why shouldn't that work?

answer: white people are selfish and racist oppressors

but if it helps just one person....

Years past, if I had a health issue I would just go to the Dr. and pay my $20.00 co-pay and be done with it.  Not that I had to go often, it was probably once or twice a year.

These days?  I want to go to Dr. to address some hip pain I am having, but will now have to pay $60.00 (at least) out of pocket to do so which is making me hesitant to schedule an appt. and instead adopt a "wait and see" approach to this mysterious hip pain.

Typically a warning letter doesn't "bork your credit".

I was about to say...I have never had water utils reported on my credit. If you dont ever pay it to the point it goes to collections, which in some states is 6-8 months, THEN it will show..

You may want to find out which utility actually gives warning letters first. My water utility doesn't give warning letters - they just lock your meter until you pay.

Also - warning letters typically don't get turned over immediately to collections or reported to credit bureaus.

My company made the decision to go "partially self funded" for our healthcare offerings this year. We hold the cash we and our employees pay in for premiums and actually pay the medical bills our self up to a certain amount at which a "catastrophic" policy kicks in.

Its a gamble that we wont have 12 kidney replacements or heart transplants that would exhaust our premiums, but the only way we could still offer insurance at a reasonable price.. around 20 bucks a week for a family plan (employee cost).

I was "saved" from my "inadequate" catastrophic care policy by Obamacare because it didn't cover my nonexistent vagina and other stupid stuff.
Now I have no insurance and had to pay the penalty this year. I am trying to find a non exchange policy that has decent coverage and somewhat sane rates but no luck so far.
Thanks Obamacare for fixing all this.

2015  Obama tried to bump it to 49%
Today it's a 1-1/4 oz 12ga Federal Power-Shok Slug.

I'm hip brother.

I've already been involved with the exchange. What a shitshow that was.

Got lucky though and went to work for a company with great insurance AND a $500 deductible.

For now.

That won't last, as I recall.  Those Cadillac plans the Unions got exempted are only exempted until, what next year?  Then you will see costs rising.
