The extra bandwidth is nice if you have teenagers who stream video instead of watching TV, but if you are dealing with a usage cap (Comcast at 300GB) it just means you can get to that cap a little quicker.
The cable companies are actually doing a great job of improving speeds, but way behind the curve on metering. Those that do have metered service don't offer an unlimited residential tier, but have no metering on Commercial customers. You don't have to run a business to order commercial service, and the price isn't much more. That screws the company more than the customer, it puts them in a situation where there commercial techs are spending more of their time dealing with residential type issues that they aren't well prepared for. |

Honestly I don't know jack about this kind of stuff. All I know is I live out on a gravel road but actually have Time Warner and have never felt my internet was "slow" Just did that test though and got 36 download and 6 upload. Seems like I'm probably moving like a dinosaur compared to you. |

Why the heck is your upload speed so slow?
I have 80 Mbps up/down with Verizon FIOS. For those who question the need for speed, it comes in handy if you're watching live video streaming. I'm using it to watch foreign TV. This is so good I may even cancel my satellite TV subscription. |

Their ultimate is only 50 mb/s here too. I usually get a little over 60 mb/s down though. Just wish I could have something like at the office.
Test from my workstation while about 200 mb/s of other traffic from other employees and processes going on at the same time. Of course, it also only grabs one of the fiber Internet connections for the test and my workstation only has a gigabit NIC in it. 
And sorry, no, I can not post it without the ISP blacked out. The ISP shows up as the company name since we have our own ASN and direct allocation of IPs. |

I'm sure it'll be the norm now. Cable companies are realizing that cord cutting is growing and want to cater their internet services to that crowd. My ISP/Cable Co. is doing that. They still make a killing on rental fees and tier pricing.

The house the wife has announced she loves is about 1/2 mile past the end of cable service. This is all I'm willing to pay for, and it's faster than I actually need ~90% of the time. My big time torrents are done on a seedbox with a gig pipe (I grab them via FTP later), so honestly - my Internet connection is pretty idle most of the time, even with a wife and two kids using the shit out of it in the evening. |

I'm stuck on 65/4 broadband from Charter. The DL is adequate but the UL is miserable. A 30MB file upload will cause the link to time out. I can only guess that more channels aren't bonded because the local system isn't built or maintained to a high enough standard to handle the additional return streams.
Extending a node 2.5 miles is neither cheap nor a quick and easy job. It requires a lot of construction, engineering, and the clearing of regulatory hurdles before the first strand goes up (or down). Not to mention that the company doing the plant extension has to be assured a ROI. Just saying. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Actually, that server is hosted by an ISP across town from us. One of their upstream providers is also one of our upstream providers. Maybe I should setup a test between our buildings and keep it on the multiple 10gb/s fiber connections that are trunked or even keep it within the data center. Could probably get some outrageous results. Here is a little more fair test. About 300 miles away and our Internet connections are being heavily used right now.

TWC highest residential INT speed is 50/5 in the one market I know they service, so based on that, my guess is that he's at the XNOC or Head End. Or he's in a premium market. Off to double check that.
ETA: jelly about that 5ms ping ^^^ ETA2: I took a zip code in the greater Columbus area that has a median income north of 100k. Plugged that info into google maps. Using earth view, picked a big house on several acre suburban lot and a pool that's bigger than some homes. Used that target addy to get a listing of available speeds from TWC and 50/5 is still the fastest offering. So based on that, yeah, I'm going with NOC or HE. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Faster speeds available to almost 40% of area customers starting June 3 Release Date: 05/21/2014 More than 100,000 Time Warner Cable (TWC) customers in the greater Austin area will have access to Internet speeds up to 300 Megabits per second (Mbps) beginning June 3.
