Mike Brown clearly thought that he could overpower Wilson. Maybe with another officer present he'd no be so froggy.

Very few departments could afford it.  About the only department in Iowa that runs two man cars is Des Moines, and then its only a small portion of the total on the street. Some of the other larger departments might but I can't imagine its more than a handful.

There's safety in numbers. Even if the Brown situation played out exactly how it did, having a second officer would have greatly changed the outcome of that altercation.

Okay, let's do the math just for fun.  Won't get into the money and training aspect because  that REALLY confuses GD.

Say I run a shift with 5 officers.   I can put 5 cars on the street.  Now, it  was just mandated to be 10 officers  in 5 cars.   Before, one guy calls off sick then I lose one car and one officer.

With 10 If  I lose one car it's TWO officers.    I guess I could have the one guy  help me clear the video  load GD  wants officers to  produce,  the video load you just DOUBLED.  I cannot put him out on patrol alone

Admitting this ball got rolling with a gas station robbery would help solve it.

Acknowledging the racism that prompts black people to establish their storefronts as "black owned" so they are spared the fire is a good start.

True but then your response times effectively double as you 1/2 the amount of cars with the same amount of staff or triple your staff costs to maintain the same amount of patrols. End result of that would most likely be more deaths.... is a huge problem because it happens a lot or because a certain group of ppl got butthurt before getting any facts then couldn't save face and admit they were wrong when they found out the guy robbed a store and assaulted the cop inside his car?

Seems like it played out fine to me and I'm certainly not going to fund 3 times the cost to placate a bunch of crybabies that boohoo when they cant accept the inevitable result of being a punk as bitch violent criminal.  Pretty simple don't want to get shot don't rob ppl and assault the police.  Seriously, I'll dog pile any cop that needs it and abuses power/etc but when a violent criminal gets aerated due to 100% his own actions, fuck that piece of dog shit with a rusty sword.

I will say that, I'm fine with tossing a camera on them since anyone with that amount of power over other ppl should be monitored closely and this would help both sides when there are no other witnesses.

I was thinking more along the lines of making sure that an officer is less likely to be beaten to death, nevermind that Wilson survived.

I think they ride 4 deep in L.A. or they used to in the downtown area.  Also walk two deep walking a beat.  They probably need to ride 10 deep in a military transport to cause peace

I know some departments will double up on grave shift.

Personally I enjoyed having a partner when I was on patrol.

Its a good feeling knowing your backup is there with you not 20 minutes out.

I know a department that only has like 16 deputies if that but they have I think 8 canine teams because backup could be an hour or more away.

The justification the Sheriff gave for having so many K9 teams was it was cheaper then hiring more deputies that the county could not afford.

The rate of injury by assault for officers in a two man car is 1/4 that of a one man car.

Except when they are just taking reports or doing other calls that only take one officer today you're just wasting the time of the second guy.

Won't SOLVE anything... will it reduce the chances of an encounter... sure... but you will always have those few who just won't play nice... and those few are the ones who become POSTER CHILDREN.

There's no way already strained budgets can support 2-man units everywhere.  So what you will get is more officers to a car but less cars on the road... meaning an increase in response times with less effective preventative patrol activities.

Two man cars are the way to go.
Unfortunately one man cars put double the visibility f or half the manpower.
