It's shocking all the pilots here who can't even remember the simplest laws of the seas.
The law of gross tonage comes to play in most situations. I dare say that the Chinese carrier was the larger vessel and therefore the USS Cowpens is required to yield the right-of-way. Day one shit in any skipper's course. Additionally if the Chinese carrier was in restricted manuevering/flights ops flying the "get the fuck out of my way day shapes", again all vessels are required to yield. Ball/diamond/ball ... better you move ya'all. |

Not one of those Chinese vessels could have survived a ramming from a battleship. The article is wrong in one respect. Admiral Lee had little to do with training the crew of the Washington. Her first sea captain was old school and drilled the crew relentlessly. The ship was a already fine tuned instrument by the time Admiral Lee came aboard. |

Being trade partners with Japan and China poses a tad bit of prob for Taiwan. They've been quite so far. A matter of time before China goes for Taiwan and theres a large 200 billion cubic meters gas field around these islands, not to mention strategic positioning. Anyone for Battleship game tonight?
