The original Music Man is excellent, The redo was absolutely pathetic. Broderick couldn't sing if he had a bayonet to his back. Preston owned that role.

Shirley Jones was SMOKIN hot when they filmed that.

And if anyone wants to say Rogers and Hammerstein show tunes are "The Ghey" I suggest you try to say that at Ansfield.  And the Green Brigade at Celtic Park will have you teeth.

They did a revival a few years ago on Broadway. . . Craig Berko did the lead---damn good job he did too.  Local guy from Westchester---Rye Brook, I think. . .

i was 37 when i saw singing in the rain for the first time. i don't think i could have appreciated it when i was younger. those guys were amazing. not just the singing but all the dancing and moves they had. the shape those guys would have had to be in to do that stuff in one take just boggles the mind. so few entertainers now posses that kind of talent. kind of a bummer.

50s/early 60s was really a golden period in musicals.

Music Man

White Christmas

West Side Story

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

etc

Of the new-er older style musicals, I've really enjoyed (and played reed 3 part in)

Crazy for You

&

Thoroughly Modern Millie

That movie sucked compared to the original non-musical Roxie Hart movie starring Ginger Rogers. As far as modern musicals/operas, I like Repo and Les Miserables. I haven't seen the film version, but the 25th anniversary special edition of Phantom of the Opera is awesome!

GREASE

Grease hit when i was 10 and left a huge impression. Songs from the soundtrack played 4 times an hour all summer. If i'm flickin channels and see Grease, i am going to watch it.

I have never liked any other musical.
