I've been GOP faithful since I can remember and I'm finding myself more and more disappointed with them. Find myself lookong for an alternative. Any Libertarian party supporters in here?

You must not have been hanging out here before the election...

I liked the idea of the Libertarian Party. However people who identified themselves as Libertarian were a turn off.
Oh yeah get ready for a complete shit fest with a sure lock, some warnings, and maybe a ban. |

I'm pretty damned libertarian in my views, but I'm not a member of the Libertarian Party. They need to learn how to run effective campaigns (ie start at the local level instead of going for President).

I have been here for a couple of years now. Big on 2nd amendment beliefs but never had anything to post or comment about. With the recent political climate I figured I would become more involved.

I've voted the slate since the late seventies.
What's happened to my Party ? |
|
I predict this thread will have the most ignored members since the Republican primaries.

Good on you, when it's not election time around here we can actually have some fairly civil and thought-provoking political discussions, with exceptions. |

I'm a hardcore Libertarian but I think the formal party is absolute shit run by old guys who need to disband the party to let a grassroots movement flourish.

Hopefully some of the hardcore Republican or die folks will wake up when the Rs sell them out on a 10 round mag cap and come over to the dark side.

I'm still Republican but I do agree with certain Libertarian beliefs.
I believe people should be free to do anything they please as long as it does not harm other people against their wishes. I believe in drug legalization...and no taxpayer funded treatment for any condition or injury that arises from the usage of drugs for recreational purposes. I believe that mere possession should NEVER be a crime, no matter what it is that you're in possession of. I believe in a tiny, very limited government that is by pure necessity very efficient in its use of what little money it gets from the people. I believe that the government should never be permitted to borrow or spend a dollar without a set-in-stone plan to repay it or earn it back. I believe in term limits at all levels of politics. I envision a lifetime limit of 20 years in politics at the absolute maximum, with all elected positions at all levels, including city councilman, included in the total. With a maximum of two terms in the US Senate, two terms in the US House, two terms in any other position. The only exception is that a person who has completed 20 years of elected service may run for President and be elected if that's what the people want to do. So only a President could have up to 28 years in elected service. Everybody else gets just 20. I believe in the absolute abolition of any form of welfare system that either (a) provides a penny more than raw subsistence living, and (b) permits able bodied, mentally sound people to live at government expense without a job even in the short term. I support replacement of the welfare system with a work for pay system. If a person is unable to find a job, they sign on with the program and they will get paid but they WILL work for it if they are capable of performing work. There's plenty of work to be done in America and it's not BEING done by anyone. Florida alone has MILLIONS of Brazilan Pepper trees that need eradication. Other agricultural eradication projects exist, or could exist, all over the country. Many cities have areas that are essentially in ruins and need site clean-up, in some cases down to the bedrock. Those people who can't find a job but want to get paid can get started on jobs of that sort. It's honest work and sweaty work, and it needs doing. I'd say to put those people to work on those jobs and THEN they can get a check to keep the power on at home. My concept is NO FREELOADERS. Compassionate exceptions would be made for those few who are TRULY unable to work for mental or physical reasons. People who have physical disabilities that are self-induced (you weight 500 pounds and thinks six large pizzas for lunch every day is normal) would not be eligible for a compassionate exception. Lose the weight and then we'll talk. CJ |

I'm a registered Libertarian. Have been for a couple of decades. Probably won't be much longer.
Better results can be had from inside the Republican party, imho. Libertarians have some great think tanks and legal foundations, but the party is a trainwreck. |

They have no connection to the voter and just sit around thinking up bullshit. They roadblock any appeal to the party itself. |

When the (R's) cave on all fronts it would seem to me that the Tea Party and those on the Conservative side of the party are gone.
The party is compromising my principles, I will not allow them to compromise my convictions. |
|
Clear your conscience brother, it is better to cast your vote for freedom, even though it will lose, than pinch your nose and vote for a political scumbag because of the letter next to their name. |

Right Here.
Official and registered as such. Had it with both of the douche bag parties. |

libertarian here.
Never voted for a libertarian candidate, as the only libertarians on my ballots have been presidential candidates. And I've always been assured that by voting libertarian my vote would go straight to the democratic candidate, so I never have. |
|
The Republicans have lets us down for the last time
never voted Libertarian because they never had a chance, now that I think about it I have always been voting AGAINST someone and never for someone. Maybe with the GOP dissentigrating into the weeping pile of cowardice they are we will see more numbers of Libertarians at the polls....then again....We may all be fighting from the hills like Peshmerga in four years |
|
The Libertarians I know are batshit crazy.
They're in a college enviroment, tho'... I wouldn't vote any of 'em in for dog catcher, much less any office that is important. |

I am one of the most outspoken LP critics on this forum.
I made a pledge this year to vote L in all local races the last election, to help them build from the bottom up. Oops, there were none- only national and high state races they had no chance of winning. They ignored all the local races they may have stood a chance in. Because in reality they don't want to actually win any races and get into office, that would mean putting their ideas into action and that would take work. They just want to run in races they can't win so they get a platform to talk about how much better their ideas are. Political attention whores. |

Yup - Libertarian, Radical Capitalist and Objectivist here.
Been a Libertarian ever since grad school when the concept of prostitution opened my eyes. I had always been brainwashed that prostitution is wrong and then a Libertarian speaker by the name of Richard Boddie introduced me to the idea of SELF-OWNERSHIP and individual rights. I believe most people are inately Libertarian. They just want to be left alone to run their life as they see fit. (As opposed to the other 2 parties who know BETTER THAN YOU how you should run your life, eg, that prostitution is BAD, that guns are BAD, that porno is BAD, making money is BAD, that generally FREEDOM is BAD.) Oh...and I registered Libertarian here in VA. My voter registration got sent back 3 weeks later.
Registered with no party, got my registration in 3 days. |

Never had anything against them and tend to agree with them more than the GOP. Didn't vote for them at national level because protecting our 2a rights takes both intent and power. GOP had the power. If GOP gives up the intent, then I will be pure Libertarian/third party/write-in.

Liberty is over-rated. Just pay your taxes and shuffle to the feeding trough when you hear the bell.

Yes. In principle, but 90% of the time vote GOP. There were actually a lot of libertarians on the ballet in my hometown this year, so i think we're kind of gaining momentum.
IMHO the best chance is for the Libertarians to team up with the Tea Partiers and swoop the GOP up. |

Agree, yeah, freedom is not a good idea and a political party that espouses freedom and a return to the Constitution is just a bad idea. |

Libertarian checking in.
Live free, die free. Don't expect me to give a fuck if you can't handle it. Or does that just make me callous? |
