Well, I've never spent any amount of time in CO, but I have in MD. I would say that MD's gun laws are a pretty good indicator of the general political (read socialist) climate. I'd pick Denver. I really don't think it can be worse than Balt, and at least there's awesome skiing close by. Baltimore has horrible crime, and pretty much sucks (apart from the inner harbor). No offense to any Marylanders, just my $.02.

Work out of and around both.
If you have to compare both it isn't pretty. Baltimore = Shithole [shock] Denver = Really Nice. [:D] To me, there would be no choice. If you end up in Balt. the inner city can be ugly, but be happy It's not DC. In the Community Service you would serve two very different types of people. If you speak any spanish your going to Denver. Good luck If you get out of the beltway it's ok |

I work in downtown Baltimore. If you stay in the inner harbor area, by day, it's not too bad. Go 5 blocks in any direction and you're in deep shit. I spent all of last night working in some scary areas, and all I could think of was "I need to get another job". If it didn't pay so well, I would have been gone long ago. I moved to Pa. just to get away from Md. politics, taxation, and other negatives.
Denver is pretty liberal too, but it HAS to be better than Baltimore! Then again, if you like boating, Maryland has lots to offer. Edited to add: knowing your opinions on people in general, you'll find plenty to hate about Baltimore!!! Also, if you do come here, look me up! |

So how is it that forfeiting your 2nd Amendment RKBA in order to gain work through a government program is actually a good thing?
What exactly is this programme? Are you building the gas chambers for large scale use in the near future? Does this program control your actions 24/7 or only when you are on the job? I understand not having a firearm on base or in a VA hospital, however, what is so great about this program that would make a person WANT to forfeit individual freedoms. The Soviet Socialist Republic provided food, work, housing, and clothing too. I just don't get it. I also do not understand such a program that carries these limitations on personal freedom. |

On your remark about bringing your KelTec for DC: watch it, total handgun ban, which makes for its fine liveable environment ;-) Seriously, take Colorado if you can - I think taxes are less than in MD. Now, if you're living 'on base' I can see (I don't understand its principle but the basic contractual basis) not allowing your guns. However, in no way does that ban your OWNERSHIP of said guns, just their POSSESSION ON BASE (or whatever group housing situation you're in). So get a *secure* Rent-A-Space interior locker nearby and store your toys there. It'll be $20ish/mo, but having some firepower nearby is always a good thing. Good units are alarmed, with video & audio monitored for hallways, and you could protect stuff further by putting in a cheapie Homak 8-gun cabinet bolted to wall. I knew it! That would explain the "Why aren't you all bragging about illegal assault weapons?" thread. Oh wait, it's not that kind of job...
I was a tutor for one of the departments of my university, which counts as a government job. Actually, I'm not even sure if I still have it (neither are they, and it's hard to figure out who "they" is). I could probably keep turning in timecards and they'd keep paying me, but that's another subject. What's really funny is when they make you sign a contract that you will follow the constitution, and then put you on government property where guns are banned. |

FYI McSpoozie, you are dissing an ardent supporter with your statements. No, I am not out pulling women and children from burning buildings or exchanging classified information with operatives. But, I do have one of the most coveted positions in the entirety of the IT industry. I am fortunate because I am a rare person who actually gets to do what they truly enjoy as a living. For the most part, we do whatever we want whenever we want as we are fortunate to be blessed with financial freedom and a penchant for spontaneous behavior. Oh yeah... I still have my RKBA and if it ever became a forced decision between getting rid of my guns or losing my job, I have no qualms about finding similar employment with an organization that placed a higher value on individual freedom. I wouldn't hesitate to walk. Hell, I might even just take an early retirement at age 32. Fortunately, my CEO is pro gun and half my office comes and shoots my toys on a regular basis with the wife and I. All I am saying is that it sounds like a lot to give up to me, but if you are willing to live with the consequences in pursuit of your goals, then so be it. There isn't enough money on the planet for me to do the same. |

I work for the county of Los Angeles. Though technically we get paid monthly in actuality we get an advance which is about half your monthly pay two weeks before so the net result is we get paid every two weeks. The best part is I don't have to pay into the rip-off known as social security. |
