purchasing a J frame or two, and just focus on training? This whole gear selection stuff makes my head hurt. The more formal training I do the more I want to simplify. I'm always amazed at how instructors are solving problems with software instead of more hardware.

If I was going to sell all of my guns and buy one, it certainly wouldn't be a revolver. Unless it was a Webley-Fosbery, maybe.

I sold a lot of them. At one point I had forty of the things. The guns that I recently lost in the boating accident were ones that fill a definite need. It might be recreation, hunting, or self defense, but I've passed the time when I bought a gun just because I felt that I should have that particular one.

Selling your guns isn't the answer...

Amatuers focus on hardware...professionals focus on software

While gear selection deserves discussion if you feel it's becoming the main focus for you then step back and worry about fundamentals for a while.

You're probably just burned out from one too many 9mm vs. .45 threads.

Fire extinguishers are so hard to maintain, and they get in the way and keep me from storing more stuff. And fire insurance is so expensive!

I sometimes consider optimizing my rifle and just keeping that and my pistol. Sell off all others.

I just turned 27 and baring joining the military or becoming a cop I think the odds of me getting into a gunfight are very low. Getting into a gunfight with a rifle is probably even more miniscule in probability.

ETA: Maybe I am having a quarter life crisis or maybe I am getting bored with guns. I like shooting, and I like training but cleaning, maintaining, and constantly getting gear isn't fun.

I agree and while I do own several .45acp pistols the J frame is the only one I carry daily. It's accurate also. Learn to shoot a J frame and everything else is simple.

I've always been a shooter rather than a collector. My deer rifle is the only gun I own that hasn't shot enough ammo to surpass the cost of the gun. The ones I shoot the most have shot many times their value in ammo.

No need to sell any, I only have guns that I frequently shoot.

I've had this feeling for a long time. Little by little I've reduced my "collection." For some reason I feel like their will be a weight lifted off my shoulders if I sell all my stuff and buy two 642s and a shit load of ammo.

For along time I would buy a gun with the intent of buying parts and setting it up just how I wanted it.....then I would see a new toy I just had to have that cut into the parts budget, in the end I had a bunch of guns but none of them exactly how I wanted them....

I decided what I wanted to keep, sold off all the fluff and fixed every thing exactly the way I wanted it to be... I'm content and happy now.

For now.....

I think one of the reasons I got into shooting is cause my house was
burglarized while I was asleep in my bed when I was fourth grade. That freaked me out. My
parents were anti gun liberals and the only way to get guns into the house was to
take the "sport shooting" angle. I did skeet trap sporting clays and stuff. As I hit 18 I started buying evil rifle and got into formal "tactical" training. At 21 I got my handgun permit and started doing handgun and CCW based training.

I think for a good portion of my life I was afraid being victim of a crime again and tried to solve it with hardware. At this point I'm not afraid anymore and I guess realizing that hardware isn't going to solve a software issue. On two separate occasions I came extremely close to getting jumped by guys who had superiority in both size and numbers. I can remember thinking afterwards "what the fuck are the tricked out ARs sitting in my safe doing to make me any safer?"

But then again I could be loosing my fucking mind.
