Seriously, I've handled and shot a good number of different rifles, and I gotta say, looking through my M1s sight, these are the best damned sights I've even seen on a gun. They're perfect.

I am no expert but I do like the AR irons and find I shoot well using them.

I have a Williams 1/16" firesight up front and a Williams FP with a variety of apertures for my Marlin 1895.

Of all my non-scoped rifles, that's my favorite setup.

And you'd be right.

M1/M14 gets my vote.

I agree. The M1 Garand has the best iron sights I have ever used on a rifle.

I like the AR's best. Garand would be runner-up. YMMV.

M1A has the best I've seen, a fair bit better than my Garand but I understand there are different mfgs. of front sights for them.

Call me crazy but I think I actually prefer M16A1 sights to A2 sights, as far as sight picture goes.  First time I ever qualified was with an A1, 36/40

Are they similar to HK MP5/G3 style sights? If so, I like those as well. I think I like them more than the A1 style sights for the AR.

Whichever has a peep sight. The exception is the Cetme, which does have a peep, but the adjustment is the wobbly front post. That is just messed up.

My match rifle AR-15 has some very good ones (for shooting round bull targets).  Look up Right-sight and PNW for front and rear respectively.  The rear has a Gehmann adjustable aperture.

Oh, I have used this sight and ones like it for shooting critter shaped targets as well.

I would say the M1 Garand for sure.  I believe Jesus guided the hand of John Garand when the design was being put on paper.

Remington Rangemaster M37 with parker-hale adjustable diopter and globe sights.  blow me

they are proprietary, but I believe SiG sells a version for Picatiny

notice the 300+ sight has a diopter screw on.. remove it and you get a much larger aperture, similar to A2 sights.

They block a lot less field of view, field sights are the best because they aren't adjustable by hand, and hoods (diopters) cause you to shoot to the center of the circle regardless of the zero you've established with the post.
